My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@TatianaBis

I think you've rather missed the point *@James*.
I haven't, I just don't agree with you

@Backstreetsbackalrightdadada

Because a thread about a duchess attending a memorial to a murder victim would inevitably cover her rights and entitlements? Really?

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 14/03/2021 00:37

PR move or not, it was a good decision on her part. Well done.

And I have been a republican for over 20 years, but I still understand that the royals are human beings

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 00:37

@TatianaBis well perhaps if there hadn't been truly bizarre attacks on the Duchesses's action maybe people wouldn't have felt the need to defend her.

I'll use your logic to turn it around:

Why, on a thread about a murdered woman, are people slating someone who visited her memorial?

LittleBearPad · 14/03/2021 00:38

Good for Kate. There are some truly depressing perspectives on this thread.

MN was a much more pleasant place when I joined 13 yrs ago. People could disagree without being nasty. Now it seems like many posters have an agenda & just want a fight.

This is definitely true.

Thewithesarehere · 14/03/2021 00:38

@jamesmiddletonsmarshmallows

My exH's uncle (though I never met him) was a convicted peadophile. Never for a moment thought that meant it had anything to do with me
Your exH was not part of a hundreds of millions (if not billions) worth of franchise, was he? Heavy lies the crown...quite literally in this case.
RampantIvy · 14/03/2021 00:41

But what do you expect her to do @Thewithesarehere? Divorce her husband?

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 14/03/2021 00:42

TatianaBis you’re basically saying there’s no defence for Kate going to a public event in solidarity with this cause. Neither of us know why she went, but we both know it has drawn more attention to the event. I’m a republican and even I know it’s good she went. We need the girls in pearls brigade as much as we need any other sector of society - because it’s an issue that affects us all, no exceptions and no gatekeeping

TatianaBis · 14/03/2021 00:42

I haven't

Clearly not, as you responded about rights, when it was actually about focus of attention.

TatianaBis · 14/03/2021 00:42

Why, on a thread about a murdered woman, are people slating someone who visited her memorial?

If you'd read your thread you would be able to answer your own question.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 00:43

@Thewithesarehere WTF are you going on about now? Franchise? Does 'franchise' suddenly make it ok to demonise people who have nothing to do with Prince Andrew's actions?! KM would have been a child when PA was abusing girls - but hey she was clearly responsible because fRAnChiSe

No answer as to what you believe she should have done in light of the PA allegations?

OP posts:
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 00:44

@TatianaBis you and the likes of you have turned this thread into a focus about Kate Middleton, rather than Sarah. So WHY are you complaining that the focus isn't on Sarah?

OP posts:
Thewithesarehere · 14/03/2021 00:47

@RampantIvy

But what do you expect her to do *@Thewithesarehere*? Divorce her husband?
I would quite like to see the RF fade away with whatever they have amassed so far. That way, we could focus on important issues like why were there no resources to take sufficient action when this murderer was reported just two days prior. I would also quite like to see an inquiry into RF’s direct interference with the parliamentary laws and would like to see a full inventory of their assets and the details of the taxes they pay and the tax payer money they receive. This will be a good starting point.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 14/03/2021 00:47

Never thought I’d see gatekeepers to how to campaign on women’s issues.... didn’t realise Kate was supposed to be subservient to Tatiana et al

Thewithesarehere · 14/03/2021 00:49

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows
She is happily receiving all the benefits of being in and promoting a brand and a franchise that is protecting that person.
You see no issue with that?

Thewithesarehere I hope you’re in Republic! Join us!

Wow I was one of the ones that replied here, as I thought it was great Kate went along just because it raises the profile of what’a happening to women and girls.
Then I come back and people are really complaining over this whole thing.
What a bunch of nasties!
Quit making it about masks, or Kate versus Meghan, or even Andrew.
Think about Sarah who died. Her family and friends right now, and those who have lost someone like this, AND the millions of women and children who have been touched or attacked by men who can’t control themselves. Get over the pettiness, and be happy this problem is in the spotlight and mourn with Sarah’s family and get angry at the man and supposed police man who did this.

TatianaBis · 14/03/2021 00:52

I’m a republican and even I know it’s good she went

You mean you believe it was good she went. I'm a republican and I believe it was distasteful.

If Kate wants to do something 'good' she can champion all the women who are murdered every week. She can add da and sexual violence to the charities she supports, she can read out the names of victims on the annual International Women’s Day. That might conceivably help. Today just helps the RF.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 14/03/2021 00:53

Ok well now you’re saying about KM that she somehow is indirectly responsible for Andrew. You’ll say she at least represents that institution but you’re getting at the same thing. No Kate isn’t responsible for Andrew or the royal family’s treatment of him. We have no idea what W&K think of him but if it’s anything like Charles who fired Andy and his kids then... why do you think Kate has any bearing on Andy?

ElizaLaLa · 14/03/2021 00:53

Team Kate all the way 💪

I think she was there out of genuine respect. Not for PR.

I wouldn't be surprised if she starts a womens campaign along the lines of her early years thing.

Thewithesarehere · 14/03/2021 00:54

This problem is in the spotlight becuase of the relentless work of plebs. RF turning up to do the lip service and some much-needed photographs is actually quite distasteful.
Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 14/03/2021 00:55

Tatiana the gatekeeper! Don’t tell women how to push women’s issues. She supports charities that help women and we don’t know what she does privately. She’s done something good today and you say it’s not enough. That’s just your opinion, and I don’t agree with it.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 14/03/2021 00:57

I’m assuming you also do all those things? Or did you just read about Jess Philips doing the reading... cos then you’d complain about Kate stealing her thunder so Confused

TatianaBis · 14/03/2021 00:57

@Backstreetsbackalrightdadada

The Andrew stuff can't be directed at me, I haven't mentioned him?
