My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@Theimpossiblegirl

*The royal family should have stayed the fuck away from this when they are blatantly protecting someone like Andrew.* This 100%. She seems nice enough but this is tone deaf as per usual. How can their pr team not join these dots?
She can do whatever she likes. Surely that is the point. Else do you think not because she is a royal or a woman. Either way she is human, lives in London and trust me if you are here you are feeling this.
Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:35

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Nest of visors you say The aww this place has gone to the dogs,that’s a well worn trope Trotted out usually when one is disagreed with and too think skinned to tolerate it
I disagree with this. This line usually comes out when certain type of posters cannot form a coherent argument and know they are wrong.

Mumsnet has turned into a nest of vipers

Has turned into? Thought it's always been?

Is it also a nest of vipers when posters are tearing into MM's every word and action or only when people are talking about the hypocrisy of posters on Kate/MM and the RF?

Stop trying to divide women! #BeKind

It has crossed my mind knowing this man (I won't name him as he doesn't deserve any recognition) was a protection officer that perhaps he had been protection at royal premises at any point?

Stopsnowing · 13/03/2021 22:35

Police tell people not to gather at Clapham Common. She goes. It is a brave statement.

MeribleMelon · 13/03/2021 22:36

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee I have quite thick skin, I spent many years in the army- I’m not a shrinking wall flower.
Mumsnet used to be a place for support and I’d feel safe as a woman to big up and support other women.
It now feels like a nest of vipers. It’s an observation and it’s sad.

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2021 22:36

Sparkling Was MN this nasty when you joined?

Unpopular opinion coming up-but no I don't remember posters being so annoyed with everybody and everything the whole time. Unless it's always been like this and I have only just noticed. Confused

Krispyk · 13/03/2021 22:36

@Thewithesarehere

After this incident, I feel like there should be a public inquiry as to how much money can be saved from protecting every Charles Dick and Harry that is getting tax payer funded security and especially those who can pay for it themselves, like the royal family.
You have to laugh at this kind of comment because it genuinely shocks me that someone would actually type this tripe and think anyone takes them seriously
Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:37

Either way she is human, lives in London and trust me if you are here you are feeling this.
Actually, I am feeling the lack of funding for the police force Andy he lack of resources to protect my DCs in this city. I am not feeling anything for people who can afford their own security many times over without even feeling the difference in their bank balance.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 13/03/2021 22:37

Yeah their assumptions about her trump her actual life experiences. She can’t have experienced anything we have, because you think that. She can’t support campaigns for women, because you think they (despite the evidence). She obviously must support Prince Andrew, because she hasn’t left her public post in protest? And lose all the support she gets for charities with that? Or do you know all the details - because either call Private Eye or stop with these assumptions.

Jeez mumsnet is a lot of assumptions tonight!! FYI I actually LIKED Meghan as a royal and like her still... I don’t even like the royals and think they should be abolished. But Kate brings royal supporters’ attention to this which can only be a good thing.

Funnily enough a woman has been murdered and the body found in a builders bag. Dental records needed to identify it. So this really is not about pigging Meghan or the interview. The paranoid fans of Meghan can sod off.
Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:38

@Krispyk
You came up with such a solid argument, haven’t you?

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:38

Royals are a brand under threat, and this was straight down line PR
Which many of you are hoovering up.praising her. Her clothes.her resolution
Job done, so many think she’s a good egg and all that. Lovely has popped up multiple times

Kimye4eva · 13/03/2021 22:39

So sad that this has turned into women attacking another woman

This. Why are women constantly so horrible to/about other women?

There are clearly a lot of people here who would dislike her whatever she did. It must be miserable going through life being so cynical.

Not feeling the death of Sarah then?
SallyAnnWotsit · 13/03/2021 22:39

This is one of the nastiest and oddest comments ever.

Maybe turn it around, eh?
Maybe say that by showing up she was pointing the finger at Andrew?

Maybe get a bit of realism? Just because she married into the RF and Andrew is a relative now by marriage, it doesn't mean she can affect the outcome of what he may have done.

OR that turning up to support women is in some way condoning his behaviour.

For me, it shows the complete opposite.

All women are not equal. Some are more equal than others.
ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 13/03/2021 22:40

@Teenageromance

Genuine question - why didn’t Kate have a mask on?
Clapham Common is outdoors. Why should she be wearing a mask?

Good for her for doing this. I'm not a royalist, but I respect the fact she did it.

LaCerbiatta · 13/03/2021 22:40

@Mayormaynothavehadit

LaCerbiatta

Sisterhood eh? Hmm

What??? What does my comment have to do with my support for women's rights to be and feel safe?

I just won't be convinced that this was a spontaneous, out-of-her-own-initiative action. This was a well orchestrated PR move, planned down to the minor detail, including the low key clothes and 'absence' of security. And everyone who believes otherwise is imo very naive.

With attention like this, they are not under threat. It's disinterest which will finish off The Windsors... and people are commenting on here like crazy.

A C list actress and hubby isn't going to bring down the monarchy, I'm afraid, they've seen off far worse.

@MeribleMelon

Mumsnet has turned into a nest of vipers, no wonder it’s on the decline. So many of my friends have given up on it. I’ve just been called ridiculous for suggesting she was just supporting other women. I don’t think I’m a ridiculous person, I was just trying to be kind. But Be kind didn’t last long did it? Why the need to turn on each other? This used to be such a lovely place to come, in the last 5 years it’s really turned a corner.
Don't let people who make a hobby of being angry about everything run you off, that's what makes them happy.

Just laugh at them, it makes the Mumsnet experience so much more enjoyable

Esse321 · 13/03/2021 22:40

@Xenia

You need to change the heading of the thread as it is not true.
@Xenia - what do you mean?
MeribleMelon · 13/03/2021 22:41

After this week, can we not all just support one another?! Of all weeks and all times, why have we got to slag off a woman, that most of us have never met off. She’s not a dictator, she’s not a murderer, she’s done nothing wrong.
Yet here is a thread absolutely slating her.
Of all weeks. I’m so tired.
