My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

I also don't buy into the Kate vs Meghan crap. Ffs, women are better than this. Just because the media likes to pit women against each other that doesn't mean we have to buy into it.

Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:42

@MeribleMelon

After this week, can we not all just support one another?! Of all weeks and all times, why have we got to slag off a woman, that most of us have never met off. She’s not a dictator, she’s not a murderer, she’s done nothing wrong. Yet here is a thread absolutely slating her. Of all weeks. I’m so tired.
I really want all the royal family to simply back off from using any kind of tax payer security. Otherwise, it looks ridiculous that they are sponging off money that could have been used to save the massive cut in police resources.
Supersimkin2 · 13/03/2021 22:43

The Cambridge children are at school 10 min from the spot of the kidnap. This killing has touched world weary Londoners in a way nothing has for decades, let alone the locals who are visibly tense in the streets.

Well done, Duchess, for supporting women and paying your respects.

I'm glad she went - says a lot about her as it was totally under the radar.
Being on the bbc news website is about as under the radar as Ronald McDonald would be at a nuns convention.

Since forever posters have bemoaned that mumsnet it’s gorn to the dogs
Not like the old days. Everybody Knew everybody. Kept your door open

Hand on heart, can you ever imagine the Cambridge’s children to face what Sarah did??
OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 13/03/2021 22:44

Funnily enough a woman has been murdered and the body found in a builders bag. Dental records needed to identify it. So this really is not about pigging Meghan or the interview. The paranoid fans of Meghan can sod off.

Again it was the "paranoid fans of Kate" who first brought Meghan into this thread. "Paranoid fans of Kate" should stop making this thread about the woman really because this thread is more about how exceptional and brave Kate is than about the poor woman who died. So we'll discuss Kate. If you want to talk about the woman, there are actual threads for her.

lunarlife · 13/03/2021 22:45

There are posters on here that assume that Kate turning up to a place that police have asked people to stay away from and in support of a murdered woman will be universally popular with the public.
Which is why she has done it.
Given the popularity of the hashtag "not all men", I'm far from convinced that this is the case.

I don't have much truck with "be kind" but I do think that "don't be a total arse" but be useful on this thread.

The Queen was shot at during Trooping the Colour; someone tried to kidnap Princess Anne.

What's your point?

AirBubbleMe · 13/03/2021 22:45

*Backstreetsbackalrightdadada

AirBubbleMe how do you know this? Or do you suspect this?

How do I know what? That the vigil was a big story on its own? Because as a journalist I know what a big story looks like. I also know how PR works. You're looking at the cynical hijacking of grief to further an agenda.

DOC is but a pawn in a bigger game between the Palace and the Press.

Thewithesarehere · 13/03/2021 22:46

This was a PR move through and through.

Starseeking · 13/03/2021 22:46

@thevassal

I'm not a huge fan of the RF, but am laughing at all the posters arguing "She wasn't wearing a mask, making it obvious she wanted to be recognised and photographed."

It's a mask ffs not an invisibility cloak! She is one of the most recognisable women in the UK, and nearly all of her past public appearances in the last year have been with a mask on, plus she clearly had people (probably not so discreetly) filming her plus security, even if they were plain clothed - I'm pretty sure she would have been recognised either way!

If she'd have turned up dressed as she did, a slim woman in her 30's, with brunette hair, inconspicuous security, and WEARING A MASK (as she should have done), I guarantee no-one would have recognised her.

Middle class white ladies similar to Kate are ten a penny in Clapham, they really are. I find her appearance there crass, today is the time to remember Sarah, and not about Royal PR stunts. She should have stayed at home.

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2021 22:46

Not like the old days

I don't recall this amount of arguing, bitching and moaning over the royals that's for sure. That's a recent thing as far as I am concerned.

I can see why other posters can't make sense of your posts.

elfies · 13/03/2021 22:47

I respect Kate for going .
Even if she HAD protection , don't you think she would be scared .
Perhaps it was PR but still she would be scared .
If she lived in London as a normal person before getting engaged to William ,she will have found herself in the same scary situations as the rest of us . Do we know if it crossed her mind this 'protection officer' might have been guarding her. Whatever her reasons for going I still respect her . Thank you Kate !

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 13/03/2021 22:47

Soooo all these posters would rather she stayed away and kept her mouth shut. Right...

FYI some of us are Meghan “fans” (to the extent I can be cos don’t like royal family!). I really liked her in the family, I was excited when she joined, celebrated the wedding, signed petition against Piers. I don’t like the royals or the idea of royalty.

But worse at the moment is seeing women shit on Kate for supporting a good cause. Do I care if she used PR? Not much. Do I think she did? No. I’m really disappointed to see posters shit on her for doing something good. This is what I would want to see royals do and MPs do and celebrities do and anyone in the public eye. Because the more visible we can make this - to EVERYONE - the better. The royals reach people I can’t. I support her turning up. The cause is bigger than the royals.

Impatiens · 13/03/2021 22:47

@Stopsnowing

Police tell people not to gather at Clapham Common. She goes. It is a brave statement.
In terms of the RF and her usually buttoned-up behaviour, it's staggering.

Since there's no way it would ever have been officially sanctioned or suggested, it could only be because she shares the pain and wanted to show respect. Good for her.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 22:47

@Blessex Kate DID NOT ATTEND THE VIGIL. op has misrepresented event in her title

tentative3 · 13/03/2021 22:47

@Ironfloor269

The royal family are really panicking now, aren't they? Trying hard to pull their socks up and pretend to be interested in the peasants to resurrect the popularity of the monarchy.. 😂

The other day, Sophie (Edward's wife) visited a community fridge in a village in Surrey...!

@Ironfloor269 why do you need to describe her as Edward's wife? If someone is sufficiently unfamiliar with the RF not to know who Sophie is, in the context of your post and this thread in general, is describing her as someone's wife really going to aid their recognition? She is her own person, not merely an accessory to her husband.
BenoneBeauty · 13/03/2021 22:48

@en0la - I meant wasn't publicised in advance nor seemingly capitalised upon by their social media. The publicity from it has come from whoever took the video and then circulated it. Whether it was done for PR reasons or not (I prefer to think not), it has brought a lot more publicity again to what happened and people rightfully being outraged by it.

Given what the bastard male police have done tonight to the women who were there peacefully paying their respects, makes it even better to me that she attended earlier.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/03/2021 22:48

I can't believe on a thread about Sarah people are bring up Andrew. He has nothing to do with Sarah. People all ready know about him. So no finger pointing needed and Kate would have been pretty young and not royal when all that happened. Plus she can't be blamed for what an uncle of William has done. What power does Kate have in the family.

MeribleMelon · 13/03/2021 22:48

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee out of a group of 6 I met on mumsnet 5 years ago I’m the only one left, they’ve all given up on the vitriol and pointless arguments. It has definitely got worse.
