Which party would you vote for if there was an election today?

And why?

I don't feel represented by any UK party, even the smaller ones.

The only ones that stand up for women's rights are the Tory's. However, as a working class Northener, I just couldn't vote for them.

I think I'd spoil my ballot. Sad

Tory.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 13/03/2021 14:01

Lifelong Labour voter /member and I'm in turmoil. I really cannot support their stance around TWAW. I have read the Social Democrats (who knew they still existed?) support women's sex based rights but I don't think they have a candidate in my area.
Those who are planning to spoil their ballot paper - what are you planning to do /write?

Impatiens · 13/03/2021 14:04

@zafferana

Self ID is not the only issue you should be caring about

It's not, but as a woman and a feminist I cannot vote for a party that trots out TWAW as an unthinking mantra and which is willing to trample all over the rights of half the population in order to pander to a loud and abusive minority.

Spot on.

@meow1989

Labour, we have a decent Labour mp in our constituency who seems to be doing a good job.

Policy wise I'm probably more centre left so Lib Dems would be a more accurate vote but it would be a wasted one.

This is how I feel too. It's a crying shame that we have to pick 'least bad'. That's not how it's supposed to be. At all. :(

I would like to see a "None of them - disband them all and start again" option.

Deathgrip · 13/03/2021 14:36

You must be joking surely? Women are fucked under the tories. This is what happens when people decide who to vote for on a single issue basis. The idea that the TORIES care about women’s rights is laugh out loud hilarious.

Not a Starmer fan but I will hold my nose and vote Labour when possible since realistically they are the only chance of getting these shits out, at least as things presently stand.

CormoranStrike · 13/03/2021 14:54

I haven’t a clue who to vote for in the Scottish elections.

Individually I have been impressed by certain people, but overall none of the parties speak to me.

I’m in a fairly safe SNP seat, though their infighting may have changed that forever.

BackforGood · 13/03/2021 14:56

I don’t dislike Starmer however he is making no impact whatsoever they are providing no opposition despite the governments catastrophic management of pretty much all fronts you just have to see that from how many people on this thread are saying they would vote Tory which I just cannot believe this country should be up in arms about their corruption and ineptitude.

This is what I can't understand. Whilst there is so much understandable hatred for so many of the decisions of this Government, I can't understand how the supposedly main opposition party isn't racing away with the opinion polls, or threads like this one.

It is truly laughable that people think a vote for Johnson, Gove and Rees-Mogg is a vote for women's rights

This is my thinking too. I totally respect people's right to hold a whole range of opinions, BUT it is beyond belief that people say they would vote Conservative, because of other parties stances on women's issues

I do wish the whole system were revolutionised though, so that the National Govmnt were elected by Proportional representation so that everybody could vote for the party they wanted and not be in 'safe seats' or 'not vote for {insert whichever party they would like to} as it would be a wasted voted'. Trouble being it is never in the interests of the party that got into power via the current system.

The following is a link to Conservatives for Women: www.conservativesforwomen.org/

Can you post a a link to a group with similar interests affiliated to any other political party. If not I suggest you review your opinion.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Labour has zero chance of winning the next election.

Don't know

BlackLambAndGreyFalcoln · 13/03/2021 15:52

I'm in London and am really at a loss to vote for in the mayorals in May. I generally vote for centre or centre right parties. Green are too far left for me. Sadiq Khan (Lab) and Luisa Porritt (LD) are both TWAW so that rules them out. I don't know Shaun Bailey's (con) opinion on the matter, but he really really doesn't appeal. His previous comments on single mothers etc are odious and he would cancel the extension to the congestion charge which is something that as I live 3 miles away from where Ella Adoo Kissi-Debrah lived, I'm quite in favour of. I don't have some ideological objection to voting tory (I have done so in the past), but SB does not appeal personally. So I don't know what to do yet 🤷‍♀️ I really wish that Rory Stewart was still standing.

See now I don't disagree with you but your post comes across as sneery. It's no different to the posts that we see after elections have come and gone and votes counted.

Better to come up with a game plan for voting if you're one of the bright sparks who have one (I am definitely not one of these), I think many of us would be glad of the steer because I don't want to vote for any of them but a spoiled ballot doesn't achieve anything either.

What to do? Their manifestos all sound wonderful. We know they're bullshit. So...?

Gerla · 13/03/2021 16:14

I probably wouldn't vote. As it is I don't have the right to vote anywhere anyway so it doesn't really matter!

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/03/2021 16:20

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe
How can it be sneery? It is a factual statement, that any examination of the personal politics of those key figures makes abundantly clear. And a response to all those upthread who say they are doing precisely that.

People voting Tory on the basis of opposition of self-ID, is pissing in the wind compared to the savage impact of Tory social and economic policy on women and families, especially in poor communities. IMO their anti self-ID stance is reactionary and anti-progressive, rather than pro-women.

Fnib · 13/03/2021 16:24

I don't know. I usually vote Labour but their current stance re women is something untenable (for me)
Can't vote Labour, won't vote Tory.
I'm struggling.

Impatiens · 13/03/2021 16:33

@Ihatemyseleffordoingthis - IMO their anti self-ID stance is reactionary and anti-progressive, rather than pro-women.

Ah, now that makes it much clearer.

Zig4zag · 13/03/2021 16:34

Probably consevative. Dont think labour would cope well with the covid debt.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/03/2021 16:42

@Impatiens
Now who is being sneery. I disbelieve that Tory motives for an anti self-ID stance are anything at all to do with support for the rights of women and girls. If they were, their economic policies would not be as they are.

I'm not being sneery, it's a factual statement - it makes your previous comment clearer, knowing that you support Self-ID.

DysonSphere · 13/03/2021 16:53

I hate the tories, but I will hold my nose and vote Conservative because I don't trust any other party not to go and sell women's rights down the river with this TWAW nonsense. All the rest have been infected with woke and that includes Labour. Doesn't matter what any left leaning party says. You can't trust them not to throw women under the bus the second they are elected.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 13/03/2021 17:10

@Impatiens. That's not actually what I said: rather that it was not an important issue to me compared with the wider context of economic and social justice and how that is already affecting women and girls.

en0la · 13/03/2021 17:13

@Crankley

Conservatives.

LST
God there are still people who'd vote fucking tory. Do you keep your brains in a jar?

At least we have brains.

I wouldn't be so sure.
ListeningQuietly · 13/03/2021 17:19

Not Tory - because of Brexit and cronyism
Not Libdem - because their leadership are utterly down the TRA wormhole
Not Green - ditto
Probably Labour - despite the TRA lunacy because my MP is decent

lunalucie · 13/03/2021 17:23

Tory. I live in Wales and it's not a popular choice and Labour will always get in here.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 13/03/2021 17:27

Not the Tories after what they have done to disabled people. I will not vote for those who have carried out sustained cruel attacks on the most vulnerable in society. They're terrible for reducing opportunities and quality of life for children too. They're an immoral shit show

Won't vote for Labour, Greens or Lib Dems as they'll sign away women's rights for woke points

If I vote it will be for the SDP I guess otherwise I'll spoil my ballot

Always been a Labour voter till now, albeit hesitantly in the last election

Exactly this. The conservatives give not one iota of a shit about women so any policy which appears to be in support of women’s rights has a different core.

I don’t want self-ID to happpen. But I can’t vote for the only party who don’t have this policy as a disabled parent to disabled children, I have actual existing problems exacerbated by this government and so do millions of other disabled people and carers. I rely on the NHS, so do my children, so do many of my friends. Voting tory would be akin to shooting myself in the head. You can’t expect people to prioritise a hypothetical future issue over the things that are harming them happening right now, no matter how much they disagree with the policy.
