In the absence of a F1 forum I'd like to chat about all things F1 Grand Prix.

How will the season go? How will the newest Schumacher fare ?

I can't wait for the first race.

@MaryStuart

6.45 decision. Red Bull going to get the decision in person …. 🤔🤔🤔
Does going in person have implications?
BHX3000 · 12/12/2021 18:38

If they were to take the championship away from something that either competitor did to affect the outcome, fair enough.

But it would be incredibly unfair if the result was overturned because Race Control couldn't get their shit together and apply the rules properly. It would be incredibly unfair because neither Max or Lewis are at fault for that.

I hope they don't pay the price for the FIA's incompetence.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 18:38

Do Red Bull have to take the trophies with them when they get the decision? Grin

Yes, it leaves a bad taste either way.
Swirlywoo · 12/12/2021 18:39

Geri will probably volunteer to receive it

And Instagram Story it!

jennywasafriendofmrbrightside · 12/12/2021 18:40

Max absolutely is a great driver and obviously there are more WDC is his future - but people saying he's been a great driver all year are delusional. He's been pushing the limits all season (and has been downright dangerous on occasion) and the FIA have turned the other way a number of times.

MaryStuart · 12/12/2021 18:41

@Mindareno
I have no idea. The sky sports news reporter has tried to find out if Mercedes will find out at the same time too / will be there too.
(#awkward!)
But he hasn’t yet had any info on that.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/12/2021 18:42

BBC says both teams are to return to the stewards in 5 minutes to hear the result.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 18:42

I have to say that i am impressed the 'inquest' is done on the same day, and not dragged on for days after.

BHX3000 · 12/12/2021 18:42

After the first protest was dismissed, what it has come down to is whether the title was influenced by a race control error.

From Chris Medland's Twitter. If it was a race control error they should declare the result void. Not penalise either team for it.

Game of rock paper scissors to decide?

This is just the response from the FIA - 'could' go to court and rumble on into next year
PatriciaHolm · 12/12/2021 18:45

@Sparklingbrook

I wonder how much the 'Protest Deposit' was ?
2000 euro I think (p11)...

I don't think anyone will be too bothered by that point. Especially if 2022 season has started.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 18:47

@PatriciaHolm not as much as I thought.

BHX3000 · 12/12/2021 18:57

@prh47bridge in Brazil 2019, Robert Kubica had not completely unlapped himself by the time the SC came in and the race was restarted. He was at +2 LAP during lap 57, he was allowed to unlap himself once, together with all the other drivers who were +1 LAP. He was still +1 LAP at the restart (lap 59). That, from a regulation point of view, was not the correct procedure. It was deemed that whether he'd had unlapped himself once more or not, would not have a significant outcome at the end of the race. There was another SC around lap 66 when the Ferraris crashed out, so the pack was regrouped once again, but he's still classified as +1 LAP in the final standings. That's the precedent for 'some, not all, cars allowed to overtake'.

Ignore all the grammar mistakes btw... Trying to refresh Twitter, the FIA website, watch the latest news and keep up with Mumsnet all in one go Grin
Me too! Frantic flicking & scrolling 😬

Well that’s that

MaryStuart · 12/12/2021 19:03

Max hugging Horner

StarCourt · 12/12/2021 19:04

Max confirmed yay

Roominmyhouse · 12/12/2021 19:04

No surprise on the decision. Can’t see Mercedes letting it lie though.

PatriciaHolm · 12/12/2021 19:04

Autosport have tweeted that second protest denied...

In your example, all lapped cars were allowed to overtake the safety car. The regulation does not require them all to unlap themselves completely. It simply says that any cars that have been lapped will be required to pass the race leader and the safety car. Once the last lapped car has passed the race leader, the race can restart at the end of the following lap. So that is not the precedent you think it is.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/12/2021 19:06

It's just so unsatisfying.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 19:06

I wasn't expecting the result to be overturned TBH, it's all a bit of a disappointing end to the season. Hopefully next year will be altogether different.
