Does anyone else think that the Harry & Meghan show isn't going to be that explosive?

I really doubt that loads of dirt will be raked, or muck spread. I'm guessing that there will be a few "it was hard to speak" type complaints, which the media will blow up, but that it's not actually going to be as exciting as we're all being led to believe?

@Bluntness100

I think it’s clear it’s Charles or William who asked the potential colour of any child’s skin tone and how it would impact the monarchy . However it appears there is confusion on when that was commented, on, with Harry saying before they married and Meghan saying when she was pregnant.

The latter is more inflammatory, because the former, is more a wider theoretical discussion, they weren’t married there were no kids. It could still be racist though obvs.

I watched Charles with doria at the wedding,obviously he didn’t come across as racist or like she thought he was. I don’t understand if Meghan thinks that of him, why she’d happily let her mother be with a racist.

Which leads me to it was William who said it. There has been rumours circulating William wasn’t happy about the speed with which it was moving with Meghan and there was clearly a rift developing there before the wedding. William is also rumoured to be insufferably stuffy. So my moneys on it was him.

Obviously we will never know who said what but I think I may agree with you. I’m especially not a fan after the Miss Hanbury debacle (which no one ever mentions funnily).

Wondermule Well, how do you propose to stop them? Nobody is going to stop buying the red tops because they were mean to someone. In fact it throws paraffin onto the flames - I bet the newspapers will sell more copies today because of the Oprah thing.

Short of restricting freedom of the press to stop them writing nasty things about the royals (dodgy path to go down), what can we do?

Liverpool managed it. The Sun newspaper is not sold in Liverpool because of the lies they printed about the Hillsborough disaster.

The gutter press used to print Page 3 topless models. They even did a "countdown" to a girls 16th birthday, so they could legally print a picture of her topless.
What did we do? A campaign was stared to stop this. And it worked.

Is anyone complaining about "freedom of the press"?

I would wager that the people who buy these gutter magazines are

Lower class middle age/older white men with misogynistic views
Lower class women with racist views

And Mumsnet with all the links to DM threads!

@Same4Walls

Of course an accusation where someone is named needs to be proved, so it won't happen.

Indeed. The minute they name names the claimscan be proven or disproven very quickly. It doesn't suit the narrative to say who it is as that stops everyone talking about it, speculating and continuing to give them attention.

Proven or disproven quickly? I disagree, how would you ever prove a conversation did or didn’t happen? If they say it was X, X will say “nope never happened”, Harry will say yes it did, and it wouldn’t make a difference.

I do think it was harsh to mention it without saying who though - if I was Charles or William and didn’t say it, I’d be really annoyed that there was all this speculation that I did.

The wedding three days before was surely the rehearsal? Or am I missing something?

Actually The Sun is sold in Liverpool. It's circulation is lower than in other cities and some independent shops have signs up that they don't sell it, but most newsagents still do.

Truthfully. If it was me being accused and I didn't do anything of the sort I'd be publicly doing a bloody lie detector test to prove my innocence. Those sort of rumours can ruin lives and will never go away without concrete proof.

minou123 · 08/03/2021 15:44

Wondermule
What would the campaign be though? No mean articles about the royals? You won’t get widespread support for that, not now, not ever

No sexism, no racism, no misogyny, no lies, no illegal activity, no fat/thin shaming, no attacks on disabilities..........

But you're right, there would be no widespread support for that. Not now, not ever.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2021 15:45

I think the newspapers need to do a little ‘reminder’ article of Harry’s racist past

Wait ... Wink

the80sweregreat · 08/03/2021 15:46

There is apparently' more to come' so maybe we will find out who said what.
Harry and Meghan know who said it.

Nope, it was all for their privacy, their love is so special. So why have a huge wedding at all?

But how on earth would you enforce that? A lot of the time the ‘shaming’ is very subtle, they don’t use overt insults, just things they know will provoke public reaction like unflattering photos etc.

You would have to very clearly define the boundaries and whatever they were, the press would write so they jusssst fell short of it.

I’m not disagreeing with the premise, I just think it would be impossible to do.

😂😂 imagine how uncomfortable that would be for Harry in front of his new Hollywood mates... if one allegation of bullying can bring a person down over there, imagine what photos of him dressed in Nazi uniform and accounts of him using explicitly racist language would do 😬😬😬
GoLightlyontheEarth · 08/03/2021 15:48

@the80sweregreat

Harry is looking bad now isn't he? Making her glam up for a public function when she was feeling so awful? Wtf is wrong with the Royal family? Especially the men. The whole thing, everything, is such a mess with the Royals sometimes! Bootsie is right though ; a lot of that will happen and it'll be George and co who'll be the next ones in the media spotlights ( poor kids) !
I thought he told her she should stay at home and she insisted on going because she didn’t want to be alone? That’s what I read.
OliviaBean · 08/03/2021 15:49

The wedding was just for the plebs, a spectacle. I'd rather the taxpayer didn't get charged £32m for the pleasure.

Oh and she never googled Prince Harry when she met him! lol

Ahh, so the press might start digging up a few old photos of Harry in his fancy dress party uniform eh? This will be war from now i on I guess. Weeks and weeks of this. Makes a change from the virus I suppose :(
willibald · 08/03/2021 15:50

The very special kind that only this special pair could produce 🙄

Yes, they're very special, like their pals the Clooneys who have designer twins who are fluent in Italian by the age of 3.

the80sweregreat · 08/03/2021 15:51

I haven't seen the interview yet so I wasn't aware she insisted on going to the Albert hall even though she wasn't well.
Apologies

I really hope one of them has the balls to re-print those photos. On the front page.
theleafandnotthetree · 08/03/2021 15:52

Harry is obviously a bit of an idiot and is largely to blame for this ongoing clusterfuck but I wonder does Meghan ever think 'what have I done here?'. I think as just an ordinary person, f it was largely through my actions, suggestions, awakening of someone that they changed their whole life, gave up virtually everything they knew, became estranged from their whole family, moved continents etc, well that's a huge responsibility to have. And this after knowing him and his family and what made him tick for such a short time. She seems so certain of the rightness of the path they have embarked on - Im not sure that that's because what she took him.away from was so awful so much as it was because it was what she wanted and is now twisting the narrative to suit the decision.

col92 · 08/03/2021 15:53

Anyone have the link to watch the interview early?

theleafandnotthetree · 08/03/2021 15:53

In all fairness Amal Clooney is pretty awesome!

ScribblingPixie · 08/03/2021 15:54

That bit cheesed me off too. I'm sure the British public would have been delighted if they'd had a quiet ceremony without Clooney, Oprah et al. And I'm sure they could have chosen to.

itsgettingwierd · 08/03/2021 15:54

@teentipans

I am sceptical of the ‘kate made me cry’ claim. Kate disagreed with her had made her kick off in the run up to a stressful event, maybe.

I think they were just using this example to illustrate the fake news since the story was Kate cried. I thought M was saying it was largely due to wedding stress/anxiety.

I read at the time and since the disagreement was over Meghan wanting the bridesmaids not to wear tights and Kate pointing out it's against royal protocol.

So actually either could have ended up in tears dependent on how that conversation (if it's a true conversation) went.

muppette · 08/03/2021 15:55

Oh yes and the States is properly racist.

Separate benches and buses? Lynch mobs? And the rest. All in recent history or present times.

Apart from someone asking H that stupid and horrible question at the start, what is all the other racist stuff that was done to M?

If someone lies or is mean, their genetic is neither here nor there - if she was called on things, it wasn't because of her family - it was because of her behaviour.

Lauren15 · 08/03/2021 15:55

I think the secret wedding thing was to imply that they didn’t really want a big wedding as many people bring up the cost.
