Does anyone else think that the Harry & Meghan show isn't going to be that explosive?

I really doubt that loads of dirt will be raked, or muck spread. I'm guessing that there will be a few "it was hard to speak" type complaints, which the media will blow up, but that it's not actually going to be as exciting as we're all being led to believe?

wondermule I think it's very hard for the RF to address this. H&M appear to have kept their accusations vague, they haven't made specific claims against individuals. Where do you start?

Many gripes seem to boil down to protocol, for which I think Harry is to blame by not ensuring MM was prepared. I don't think the RF are obligated to start publicly clarifying basic protocols for the benefit of the grandson who was raised to know them.

The royals are in a tricky spot here because these two have thrown non-specific grenades, and they've focused on emotive subjects like race and suicide. The RF can't really win - if they respond it can only be in a restrained, sterile way, or they risk making it worse; if they ignore they'll be accused of getting away with something, or not caring.

It's not a level playing field, which is why this interview is such a shit thing to have done. Especially from Harry.

This is what will happen now. It's always the same
Team Meghan or Team Kate whilst the men will walk around with their hands behind their backs getting away with most of it.
I am really sad about the baby comments though. That is sad and to say she felt suicidal is awful and to be made to glam up and go out feeling as she did is also out of order.
It's all just really sad.

'What has she actually done, to warrant so many MN posts, so very many press column inches? It's disgusting. A reminder of the slyness of racists. If she lost her baby or some nutter killed her, incited by all the hate, there'd be inner glee and outer faux sympathy.'

What have they done you mean. They have done a 2 hour chat show gossiping about his UK family. When her df did the very same they were horrified, why is this different??

Your comments about murder and miscarriage are disturbing and rather melodramatic, it isn't a Netflix series you know.

@BelleHathor

Lies (M made Kate cry, The Queen was 'Blindsided' by them moving) came from the Palace and the media went with them, H&M go t no support at all. Why should any adult, especially one who was having racist shit thrown at her, stand back and say nothing? This👍, Believe me I am going to war and if it results in mutual destruction then do be it. Stories were leaked by the Palace deliberately to hide other stories (Epstein & Andrew, William's "friendships"). Speculation about my child's skin colour? I will destroy you! M&H had no other choice but to set the record straight.
100%. As a black Briton what I am reading on here is heartbreaking and is exactly why so many women of colour feel silenced when dealing with racism. So typical all the rallying around someone who has caused offence, “she’s a liar”, “it was taken out of context”, “she’s a bully”, “pandemic, it’s not the time for this”. If Meghan made Kate cry and it’s in the media that’s perfectly ok and Meghan is a monster, but when Meghan sets the story straight she’s throwing her SIL under the bus.

She doesn’t owe the RF anything, especially when they did not support her and added to the racist barrage. She shouldn’t have to just take it. The investigation into her when they haven’t publicly claimed an investigation into A and Epstein is disgusting. Pointing to centuries of imperialism to seem anti racist and claiming they have to “bend over backwards” to be inclusive tells us all we need to know. It’s no surprise they chose to leave.

'Do American citizens have to curtsey to the senior royals'

I must admit I find the whole curtseying thing bizarre. That surely needs to end.

Exactly and I agree with every word.

They could easily deal with all of this by asking H&M to make more specific complaints to be investigated, and vow to make the exact allegations public.

The minimising and denial of the race comments about Archie by posters on this forum are disgusting. Their intentions are extremely clear.

British citizens don’t have to curtesy to royals. It’s just tradition, not a “rule” (as per the “greeting a member of the royal family” section of royal.uk website.)

I'm not black, but immigrant parents & the minimising & hypocrisy is so obvious. Why does M have to be held up to a higher standard?

I think it might be a netlfix series soon!

You don’t have enough detail to determine that.

@eggandonion

As an aside, the photo of the family looking at the baby when he was a couple of days old is beautiful. As is the photo of Harry and Meghan under the umbrella just before they left England. Do American citizens have to curtsey to the senior royals? I don't remember if Irish heads of state do. I suppose if I was going to meet the Queen I'd check it out. My dh once shook hands with Prince Michael of Kent, but nobody bowed.
They don’t @eggandonion lest you ever find yourself unchaperoned in a lift with a royal. Subjects of the monarch curt’sy. Only Iris Robinson curtsied to the Queen at the state dinner during the state visit some years back.

Maybe they are just matching MM’s platform being public? You have no idea of what goes on in private.
NotFrozen · 08/03/2021 12:45

I really hope the Palace responds to and and investigates the racism allegation and the allegation that Megan was denied requests for help when suicidal. These are really serious allegations and need to be addressed now.

Coronateachingagain · 08/03/2021 12:45

@Goingferalonfurlough

If the whole idea of being part of the Royal family was so awful for Meghan (and I don’t for a second believe she didn’t know what she was getting into), then why not decide to take a giant step back before getting married (at huge cost)? And with regards to the colour of Archies skin - if my white daughter was expecting a baby with her black husband there would definitely be a conversation about how the baby may look. The same way there would be a conversation about which traits it may inherit from each parent. Isn’t that normal??? It certainly was when I (very light blonde and blue eyed can be liken to a sloth) had my child with my (black haired brown eyed very sporty) ex!
I agree and this interview is really full of hot air. Carefully choreographed answers, and not really inquisitive questions. Of course she knew what she was doing, but who can prove it? It is so easy to cherry pick comments and situation and take these out of context. Oh what follows after this is anyone's guess! He is so naive.
2021ismyyear · 08/03/2021 12:45

I can honestly say this is not a race thing (for me at least). If Kate did what Meghan did, I’d still be thinking she was a self important idiot. I blame Harry (a white male) equally as much as Meg.

CheckYourWhatsAppBeforeYouSend · 08/03/2021 12:46

I really doubt that any time anyone in the RF has a medical issue they have to call the head of HR for permission to see a Dr? All sounds like another thing that H should have been helping M with, and didn't, rather than M being refused

Exactly!

I don't know either if it's something the head of HR could escalate - imagine being a royal staff member with little contact wit actual royals Having the responsibility for dropping the bombshell that their newest Royal is suicidal

fennaut · 08/03/2021 12:47

I think they are really really two stupid people honestly. The monarchy is being criticised about its worthiness at normal times and now mentioning that they had another wedding before the wedding just makes me question why are my tax going to all of them. She's sitting in her Californian mansion, with a $5k dress on, with her jewellery that costs $$$$ talking about an institution on its last leg. Are you really that stupid?

I really do hope the monarchy goes and her back into acting, Henry working in a 9-5 job along with the rest of the royals seriously though they all take the piss. A smart person would have got on with their life in private and continued with their privilege without going nuclear to an institution that has provided you with all this. If the institution falls, do you not realise your source of privilege would also fall? Talk about burning the bridges, they've basically bombed the bridges.

I completely agree @TacoLover. It just goes to show how racist so many mumsnetters are.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/03/2021 12:48

@Pellewsmate

Kate had given birth just 26 days before Harry and Meghan's wedding. Maybe she wasn't feeling great, maybe she snapped, maybe she was upset that Meghan hadn't asked her "how she was doing".
Good point
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/03/2021 12:55

@buzzybeesliveintrees

Harry has married a woman just like his mother

He's evidently married someone with all of Diana's faults, and none of her virtues. Whereas William married someone with many of his mother's virtues - and few of her faults.

Absolutely spot on. And Diana had many virtues but was also a serial whinger too. At least she whinged while also making a difference - land mines work and she was an absolute game changer during the AIDS pandemic with her attitude to AIDS victims
2021ismyyear · 08/03/2021 12:56

I think we are getting to a dangerous point where one cannot call out something wrong done by a black person. Sometimes (most of the time) people are just horrible/nasty/bullies/make errors... and it’s zero to do with race. We must be free to call out these people, what ever their skin looks like. I don’t want to live in a world where we can’t.

And right now, I’m calling out Meg and Harry. For being out of touch. For lecturing me and making out they have a terrible life when it’s all fabricated. For deliberately being self absorbed on international women’s day. Horrible people. For sticking their fingers up to me, the tax payer who they view as complete plebs (eg having a private secret wedding). Yes even you Harry -remember the racial slur you apologised for using a few years back?!

My 👀 have been opened by so many people who would swear they are not racist casually throwing out how "vile" Meghan is, that is coded language and a form of covert racism. TBH she did well to stay quiet so long and I think it was only the continuing "leaks" that made them say fuck it. Afua Hirsh was saying that a contact in the commonwealth said that the racism is not playing well for Britain's reputation.
Loving all the Americans who have come out to support Meghan including Serena "spoke to an umpire labelled angry" Williams.
