Does anyone else think that the Harry & Meghan show isn't going to be that explosive?

I really doubt that loads of dirt will be raked, or muck spread. I'm guessing that there will be a few "it was hard to speak" type complaints, which the media will blow up, but that it's not actually going to be as exciting as we're all being led to believe?

who says he didn't?

Pyewackect · 08/03/2021 08:49

............. “SHOW ME THE MONEY “

StCharlotte · 08/03/2021 08:50

You don't like Meghan because she's mixed race and American ie not the right type of woman.

Wrong.

I thought she was going to be brilliant within "the firm" for precisely those reasons.

who says he didn't?

She says she didn’t know, so can’t have been told.

teentipans · 08/03/2021 08:51

I think Harry is (wrongly or rightly) tarring them all with the racist brush. He said he was very disappointed that no one ever discussed the media coverage with him didn't he?

livinlavida2021 · 08/03/2021 08:51

As for the race accusation. You can't just make this statement. You can't just say someone was racist and leave the world speculating as to who that was and instead of addressing it, just tar the whole family with the racist brush

I do see your point but also, can you imagine if he named them their life would literally never be the same again - so I can see how they wanted to protect that person but still let us know what BS they were up against

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/03/2021 08:51

@user1471543094

The family member asking about the kids skin colour is shocking. But he needs to name the person and explain the context.

Seemingly no questions about her own family? Surely that public rift would have contributed to her mental health?

Yea context is key and I think all this half information giving is ridiculous - tell us or don't!

My ExH is mixed raced (he is half Israeli). But you can't really 'tell' until he's in the sun and it's very obvious. When I was pregnant with both of mine there was a lot of "ooh I wonder what colour skin the baby will have". If I was looking for trouble I might spin that my ILs were saying it for nefarious reasons when really it was just mindless speculation

DarthWeeder · 08/03/2021 08:51

who says he didn't?

Megan, in the interview. She said she learned to curtesy from Fergie.

Oldbutstillgotit · 08/03/2021 08:53

Anyone have any thoughts on why M’s fall out with the Markles wasn’t mentioned ?

livinlavida2021 · 08/03/2021 08:53

Why are people so concerned about the context of the statement about archies skin?

Why can't people just accept others account of racism - people don't do this for sexism or homophobic slurs? Beg for the context or else the argument is invalid - why can't you just accept their account and accept racism is highly likely in a royal family?!

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/03/2021 08:53

@teentipans

Yes, he should have but the point was she didn't know until that point.
because of her partner, not because of anybody else or because she's oppressed in any way - it was completely up to him to brief her. The same way I'd expect a partner to brief their OH if they were meeting their family who are from another culture and have traditions that need abiding by.
teentipans · 08/03/2021 08:53

She says she didn’t know, so can’t have been told.

She didn't know before she was told, the idea seemed strange to her. That what I took from it.

MrsTabithaTwitchit · 08/03/2021 08:53

Someone will get hold of the marriage certificate it’s a public document , so it must be true otherwise they wouldn’t have risked it.

However in this country you can’t get married other than in a licensed venue so there must have been some fudging plus you need two witnesses

C8H10N4O2 · 08/03/2021 08:54

Why would they want Archie his to have a title anyway if they were so unhappy with the RF?

It isn't about the title, its what it brings in terms of protections. A mixed race royal baby was always going to be a bigger magnet for the British press than even Diana was.

teentipans · 08/03/2021 08:54

"She said she was baffled that she’d have to curtsy, pointing out to Harry that she is his grandmother. He replied, pointing out that as the monarch, it was expected."

I thought she was using it as an example that she didn't know what she was getting into.

SleepingStandingUp · 08/03/2021 08:54

@VanCleefArpels

My take (having seen clips/ Twitter commentary)

William was quite right not to have married Kate until she had time to contemplate/learn about exactly what the “job” entailed. Harry didn’t afford Meghan the same consideration

Charles (for it is clearly he of the brown baby comments) is emotionally illiterate which is not surprising and probably resents his son for being able to escape the life he (C) loathes

That was always going to be the problem with meeting someone his own age at that age though. Meghan didn't have a decade, she'll be 40 or near as when they have this baby.

I do think his arrogance has done her a disservice.

Meredithgrey1 · 08/03/2021 08:54

@DavidsSchitt

"I would like the Archbishop of Canterbury to confirm whether he married them a few days before the ceremony as they claim."

I'm sure he's reading MN and will be along in a minute to answer your demands Grin

Aren’t marriage certificates/records public records, like birth certificates? I doubt they’d say it if it wasn’t true and could easily be disproved by someone searching the records? (I could be wrong about records though)
StCharlotte · 08/03/2021 08:55

she didn't know she had to curtsy in private

You'd think she might have done some research on this new role she was about to take on.

You'd think Harry might have set up an informal meeting with Will and Kate and they (well Kate) could have given her the heads up.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 08/03/2021 08:56

He really did his wife a total disservice. I used to think he was ok but I can’t stand him now.

Absolutely agree. I can't much fault Meghan other than she's a bit of a brat. But thinking she didn't have to curtesy to the Queen and thinking she could trot off and do any interview she wants whenever she wants is a woeful failure on behalf of her husband.

Bee0808 · 08/03/2021 08:56

When all of this began last year - the leaving for America etc - I said that Harry was the 21st century Duke of Windsor (even down to marrying an American divorcee)
The RF will not allow him back.
Ever.
What's done is done.
Prince Phillip would not even stay at Sandringham when Harry turned up to talk to the Queen. He was driven off the estate before Harry arrived.
He has burnt his boats.
However, whoever is advising Harry and meghan are doing a very bad job.
They come across as petulant and needy.
Harry is certainly Diana's son!

teentipans · 08/03/2021 08:56

She said she learned to curtesy from Fergie.

That's not the same as not being told by Harry.

Wondermule · 08/03/2021 08:56

I doubt it was an official marriage, probably something more like a blessing.

Meredithgrey1 · 08/03/2021 08:57

Charles (for it is clearly he of the brown baby comments) is emotionally illiterate which is not surprising and probably resents his son for being able to escape the life he (C) loathes

If H&M were going to talk about the race comments at all, they should have named the person because of comments like this. If I were Charles, and I didn’t say it, I’d be furious that now loads of people think I did.

DarthWeeder · 08/03/2021 08:58

Anyone have any thoughts on why M’s fall out with the Markles wasn’t mentioned ?

Because it was all about mud slinging at the royal family I guess. I mean, surely Oprah should have asked about the rift with her father, it’s been such a huge thing. And much was made about the fact that apparently no question was off limits. We’re expected to believe Oprah didn’t want to ask or think to ask anything about that?

Supersimkin2 · 08/03/2021 08:58

Meghan's claim that Archie Won't Be A Prince If He's Black are bizarre.

No one on the planet would say that to a pregnant mother, even if they were so racist they thought a white child would suddenly turn African to annoy them.

Even racists aren't that dumb.

Great grandchildren don't get titles. Least of all prince. That's how titles die out, otherwise everyone in the UK would be a Prince/ss of Cake.
