Interesting that their popularity had declined so sharply just before Christmas 2019, just before the January where they announced their departure.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 07/03/2021 11:48

They don't like negative comments so they must be a bit nervous now. It's filmed. It's going out. They have unleased a gloves off approach at the firm.

They probably felt better while they were filming it and for the ten minutes afterwards though.

PheasantPlucker1 · 07/03/2021 11:49

The posters who believe that the reason Meghan is solely disliked due to racism, how do you explain the popularity decline?

I would very shocked if people can genuinely not think there has been a dramatic shift in feelings towards Harry and Meghan since the wedding. Myself included I really though they were a good match and great for the royal family but it’s become so toxic.
I think it’s very sad for both Harry and Meghan to be so detached from both their families.
They seem to relish this victim role they have created in response to the press and seem determined to apply it to British public in general which I don’t think is fair.
If the British public were racist she wouldn’t have been popular in the first place. Dress it up however you want but we all know they were popular and now they are not!

And you think this has nothing to do with how they've been portrayed in the press? 🤔
ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 11:52

There was negative and nasty press from day one though? Same with Kate and Diana.

So are you pleased Meghan won her court case against the MoS? After all, she is fighting a battle against the gutter press that also impacted on Kate and Diana?
Presume you're as pleased as I was.....

ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 12:00

I have no love for the majority of news outlets in this country.
It is not just the media’s influence though people’s opinions cannot be shaped by that alone- it can play a part obviously but people will make their own minds up.

Is this really a question?

So much so that H had to issue a statement.
So much so that a bunch of MPs had to write an open letter regarding the 'colonial' undertones on her reporting.

H&M hardly spoke at all, infact we heard from them a dozen times, most of which was actually just charity speeches. We also did not see much of MM during her pregnancy and infact when they took that time to Canada we hardly saw them, yet ppl have counted a staggering 250K reports on them. Unlike Trump, they don't give out daily tweets, so the only way you can make up your mind of how she 'comes across' is if you read all the negative press and panel opinions you see. You either suck it all in, or you say, just wait a second here.

It is rather tiresome when any criticism of a black person is deemed racist.
HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:05

It is tiresome when any mention of the racist coverage of Meghan is deemed 'playing the race card'

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:05

I meant to quote @Doris86 there

Racism will never end with ppl being dismissive like this. Absolutely vile.
Cam77 · 07/03/2021 12:08

@HmmmmmmInteresting

think to continue to say it's not a race issue is insulting and gaslighting. The Royal family put out a statement when Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016 talking about the racial undertones in the coverage of Meghan. This is from the Kensington Royal Twitter page (William and Kate's official Twitter page), so officially endorsed by the royal family: twitter.com/KensingtonRoyal/status/795931735443861504?s=19

Well pointed out. William and Kate no doubt have their differences with H&M, but as you say there’s some gaslighting going on. There was some real racism, especially early on - as attested to in that Tweet. When it became obvious she wasn’t going away the press toned it down a bit.

I expect MM was expecting exposure, being critical of fashion choices, being too outspoken etc. But racism? So I expect she decided fairly early on that she’d prefer to live with her family in the US, which of course has its issue with racism but where it is at least not enflamed and given the “OK” on the front pages of national newspapers.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:08

If you want us to compare the coverage of Kate and Diana to that of Meghan, what do you think of the numerous posts highlighting the direct difference between how Meghan and Kate were portrayed ( bump touching, daring to show the bump, eating avocados, fragrancing the church, wearing earrings gifted by dodgy people etc etc etc)?

Look up direct discrimination if you're confused.

ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 12:10

I’m not confused think you may be though dear

Cam77 · 07/03/2021 12:10

@Doris86
The early coverage of MM in national British tabloids, particularly during the first couple of years of their relationship, was racist. That’s a fact. Even William and Kate spoke out about it.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:11

@ChickenSoupForTheHmm

You clearly are, dear.
ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 12:11

Again people have a mind of their own the press being racist cannot make the public racist. We all loved Harry and Meghan in the beginning the mood has changed over time.

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 07/03/2021 12:12

I’m in 2 minds about watching it. I don’t like the royal family and the institution of the monarchy. Find harry and Meghan a bit cringy, but not deserving of the vitriol that they get. However, I love drama. What to do? Grin

Cam77 · 07/03/2021 12:13

So given that, I’m not surprised MM never took to her “new home”. Her quarrels with her family’s role in the monarchy then spiraled from her wanting out - which I’m sure was thanks in part due to this horrible introduction to Britain.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:13

If that's the case maybe the public already are racist

you've both taken the words out of my mouth.

Piers Morgan is OBSESSED.

KaptainKaveman · 07/03/2021 12:14

@hedgehogger1

Is this like Jeremy Kyle for the upper class?
Haha, seems like it doesn't it?

I won't be watching as I can't muster the interest, but if it helps nail a few stakes into the rotten, corrupt and entitled heart of the anachronism that is the Royal Family then it will surely be worth it.
