@ChickenSoupForTheHmm
Some of the public loved them. Others were leaving 18th century type racist comments under online articles. You do not represent “the public”.

ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 12:15

Genuinely why hhmmmmm?
I’m not I have agreed that the press in this country is inherently racist but you seem incapable of accepting that the public’s negative opinion of Meghan can relate to anything other than her race. It’s not true.
The perception of Meghan has been shaped by her tone deaf statements, treatment towards family members etc etc not because the daily fail wrote something nasty about her?

I think s/he kind of does. Pretending the nasty coverage is nothing to do with racism. Twisting themselves in knots to say they don't see colour but there's just soooomething about Meghan that they can't warm to.

Ah yes, YouGov. That unbiased arbiter of truth. The same YouGov that said nobody is interested in watching the interview.

Exactly, the truth is that we'll be lucky of the power grid doesn't fail from all the kettles clicking on at once. Grin

ChickenSoupForTheHmm · 07/03/2021 12:20

I’m not talking about those people though I’m talking about people who really liked Meghan in the beginning but have since Changed their opinion. I think that can be simply described as a race issue?

I find the fact that Prince Harry complains about the toxicity of the British press (which I agree it is toxic), has spoken out more than once on the trauma of his mother's death and the hounding of her and has also said he fears history repeating itself, yet is quite happy to give an Oprah interview on CBS, the same CBS that in a 2004 programme (CBS's 48 hours investigates) showed pictures of his mother dying completely hyprocritical. Did he not do any due diligence checks before agreeing to this???

redspecial · 07/03/2021 12:22

I watched it for 5 minutes. typical dumb c5 fayre.

now this is more interesting. www.macleans.ca/royalty/meghan-markles-twitter-bot-network-the-whole-thing-is-a-bit-insane/. what do we think? could someone powerful in hollywood media with a current interest in the couple be making their PR company earn their money? murky stuff whatever is behind it.

Doris86 · 07/03/2021 12:23

The thing the public ‘can’t warm to’ about Meghan, is possibly the fact that she’s come and broken up the royal family, rather than because of her ethnic background?

Wallace Simpson was unpopular for similar reasons in the 1930s.

You watched what for five minutes? The interview hasn't yet been broadcast. 🤔
Mummy195 · 07/03/2021 12:25

@Roussette

There was negative and nasty press from day one though? Same with Kate and Diana.

So are you pleased Meghan won her court case against the MoS? After all, she is fighting a battle against the gutter press that also impacted on Kate and Diana?
Presume you're as pleased as I was.....

The judge said MoS is supposed to write a big front page apology to MM. Hope they get a hefty fine, if they don't do it.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/03/2021 12:26

It is rather tiresome when any criticism of a black person is deemed racist

Isn't it just. Nobody with sense would deny there's been racism - and some of it's been downright filthy - but to suggest everything's down to this, with the frequent sneer "we all know what it's really about", seems to me to insult people's intelligence

However nothing changes, and the usual posters will go on disrupting threads to the point where H&M can't be discussed at all

Shame really ...

Yeah, it's a shame you can no longer bitch about Meghan to your heart's content without being labelled racist or the thread taken down.
ginghamstarfish · 07/03/2021 12:31

I have never thought any of the criticism about MM was racist - it was rather criticism of a person whinging and lecturing while doing the opposite of what she was preaching. It would -and should - apply to any public figure doing the same. What they're doing now is cringemaking and tacky in the extreme, whereas they could have simply walked away with dignity intact to lead their 'private' lives. So yes, they are pretty much inviting criticism now as would any other public figure, even those who did not cost the UK taxpayer dearly.

Doris86 · 07/03/2021 12:32

HmmmmmmInteresting You have just proved the point - saying that anyone who bitches about Meghan will be deemed racist.

You need to employ some critical thinking skills

Roussette · 07/03/2021 12:33

Yes. And it's been ordered to be in a certain size font. so no hiding it. And then it has to be repeated on page 5 or whatever for the next seven days.

Well done Meghan.

Such a shame for you
Doris86 · 07/03/2021 12:35

A shame you have just proved me right, that you believe ANY criticism of Meghan is racist?

UltraVioletRays · 07/03/2021 12:37

If you want us to compare the coverage of Kate and Diana to that of Meghan, what do you think of the numerous posts highlighting the direct difference between how Meghan and Kate were portrayed ( bump touching, daring to show the bump, eating avocados, fragrancing the church, wearing earrings gifted by dodgy people etc etc etc)?

Already been covered numerous times.

Impatiens · 07/03/2021 12:38

Yes. It should be perfectly possible to say that someone seems insincere, hypocritical and massively up themselves without being labelled racist because that person has a certain heritage.
slashlover · 07/03/2021 12:39

@redspecial

I watched it for 5 minutes. typical dumb c5 fayre.

Where did you watch it as it wont air on TV for another 12 hours?

Juno231 · 07/03/2021 12:40

@ginghamstarfish I mean there have literally been headlines saying how her family went from cotton slaves to royalty (daily fail), as well as calling her "straight outta compton". Not to mention Princess Michael of Kent's lovely blackamoor brooch.

mylovelydd · 07/03/2021 12:42

Considering moving away from the UK to live a life as 'civilians' in the US was what Harry wanted, I can't help but feel he looks utterly miserable these days.
Shouldn't he look happier now that he has what he wanted? He looks drawn and haunted.
I don't think him constantly focussing on how the press treated his mother is doing him any good either.
Beatrice and Eugenie live relatively ordinary lives working etc and we don't hear much other than official articles in the press. Same with the Tindalls.
What I don't understand is If Harry and Meghan want the quiet life why don't they just do that rather than constantly pushing themselves forward into the limelight.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/03/2021 12:45

@Doris86

I just said it's a shame for you that you can't bitch about her to your heart's content without being accused of racism in your opinion.
