Pmsl at the sick bag!!

billysboy · 07/03/2021 08:06

For a couple that do t like publicity and the press this sure is an odd way of going about things

DobbyTheHouseElk · 07/03/2021 08:13

@Blueberries0112

I support Meghan and Harry, but I do have a slight complaint about her makeup .... I don’t think her eyeliner on this interview is suitable for her.

Anyway, is the firm another word for royal family?

I think she’s trying to emulate Diana’s eyeliner in her “tell all” interview. MM doesn’t usually wear so much dark eyeliner.

They didn't 'have it in for
Her from the start' they were supportive and even the press were ok. The fab 4, but the cracks started appearing, not just stories of bullying, many people left their employment, or moved within the RF rapidly. Looking back, honestly, How many people get married and only 1 close family member comes, and a bunch of celebrities who she hardly knows -the whole thing was bizarre, and there's no smoke without fire in my view.

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 08:16

I think this interview is a mistake, I don’t know why they (Charles, Diana, MM and H ) all seem(ed) so keen to wash their dirty laundry in public . It’s obviously stirred up even more interest from the press which is what they all claim to hate .

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 07/03/2021 08:16
@intheenddoesitreallymatter

Did you see the newspaper coverage Kate endured before they were married? She put up with eight years of mockery and having topless photos splashed all over the European press.

What happened to Meghan is vile. But she is hardly the only one- Fergie, Eugenie and Kate have all had the same treatment.

Pretending otherwise makes people look at bit silly.
Have you seen the comparisons from when she and Kate were pregnant. One heralded Kate to be another earth and the other mocking Meghan every step of the way? Spreading rumours she was never pregnant at all.

Then the way her Mother was brought into it, her Father’s story was printed through out the press, she was accused of having poisonous flowers at the wedding. Every bloody breath she took was penalised.

Did you see the mass comments online calling Harry a race traitor? Or the pictures of them holding a monkey as a newborn baby? Or the pictures where Meghan had been entirely photoshopped out in place of a gorilla.

The coverage of Kate stopped when they were married. The coverage of Fergie and the girls also died down - usually when they gave birth.

Meghan’s carried on and on and on and it became worse over time. You can’t compare it, the pair were literally run out of the country.

buzzybeesliveintrees · 07/03/2021 08:22

So much has been written about this, but Camilla Long in the Times has put it best:

“Were you silent,” pounds Oprah to Meghan, as the Kardashian drama music rises, “or were you silenced?” I don’t think there’s a single person in Britain who doesn’t know the full, unexpurgated answer to this question. Yes, the duchess was silenced — but who wouldn’t want to silence every word of what Oprah cloyingly calls Meghan’s “truth”? Meghan’s “truth”, we’re discovering, is an unstoppable Krakatoa of toxic sniping and petulant Marie Antoinette revelations that is now dragging the entire “Firm”, as even Meghan calls them, down to her level. I’m not sure any of it qualifies as actual “truth” — I’m inclined to believe Meghan wouldn’t know her “truth” if it clopped in on a silver platter from Mohammed bin Salman. But who cares, when there are pregnant pauses to be made and multimillion-dollar deals to be done?

I won't be watching

Mummy195 · 07/03/2021 08:25

@intheenddoesitreallymatter

You are correct. Others had bad coverage spread out and were given breaks during their pregnancies. MM was concentrated.
I hope Oprah really reminds ppl of all that was printed. I love how twitter keeps receipts of everything. Here is a hard read if you want to look back. Just the other day ppl counted almost 200 articles in one day of bad coverage of MM.

Cam77 · 07/03/2021 08:27

Not really interested TBH. Two entitled people whingeing? Nah. In any case it will be chewed over ad nauseum for years to come. i feel sorry for the Queen. And what will Harry do when MM moves on?

Why are you expecting her to "move on"? But if it did happen I expect he'd be a decent father to his children and find another woman to marry without too much difficulty, as extremely wealthy and famous (and in his case seemingly nice enough) men tend to do. I don't think he cares about what the detractors in Britain have to say now or in the future.

Cam77 · 07/03/2021 08:29

So much has been written about this, but Camilla Long in the Times has put it best

I must say I'm shocked to hear that one of the biggest establishment mouthpieces is taking the side of the British establishment in a potentially damaging dispute.

UltraVioletRays · 07/03/2021 08:29

Was it because she was black? Probably.

Yes because us black women are above any criticism unless it is for the colour of our skin! Sick of this patronising rubbish.

UltraVioletRays · 07/03/2021 08:32

Have you seen the comparisons from when she and Kate were pregnant

Do you realise you are comparing meghans treatment when she'd only been with Harry in the public eye for a couple of years, to kates treatment when she had been with William for 9 years plus.....and already gone through the usual crap from the press for many more years than meghan.

Hmm
Cam77 · 07/03/2021 08:36

"Meghan’s carried on and on and on and it became worse over time. You can’t compare it, the pair were literally run out of the country."

Yes, mixed in (or often below the line) of some of the valid criticism and observation was a fair bit of outright racism. We can usually be "accepting" of black/minority ethnic MPs (apart from the vile bullying of Diane Abbot), but a non-white person joining the RF brought all the nasty suppressed empire mentality racism out of the closet.

Kinsters · 07/03/2021 08:38

I'll read a summary of it. Maybe watch the highlights on YouTube.

PPCD · 07/03/2021 08:39

I have a feeling that the only person who is going to do well out of this interview is Oprah.

UltraVioletRays · 07/03/2021 08:40

fair bit of outright racism.

Where?

MrsTabithaTwitchit · 07/03/2021 08:42

I love that piece by Camilla Long, I’m not usually a fan but really she’s hit the nail on the head . What is ‘her truth’ anyway. Should I say to my dc ‘ok you don’t need to tell the truth as long as it’s your truth’ so as long as you believe you didn’t hit your brother that’s fine then, because that’s ‘your truth’

I would put money on the monarchy to survive this , there will always be bad press , but in a few years time everyone will be having their day off for some royal celebration , hanging up bunting etc etc . Not saying I agree but absolutely this is what will happen.

What government will want to be the one to get rid of the monarchy and will be prepared to invest all that time and money to the exclusion of all other issues. Brexit would be a doddle in comparison .

BelleSausage · 07/03/2021 08:45

@intheenddoesitreallymatter

The negative coverage of Kate only really stopped once she had the kids. Also because William took a strong stance in injunctions for negative coverage once they were engaged.

As second in line he has never had the choice really to leave.

Again, what happened to Meghan was awful and racist. But the British press have form- Diana, poor Caroline Flack and others.

Let’s not pretend that this was only all about her. The British press are disgusting. I’m not sure how that can be pinned on the Queen or other members of the royal family. We have no idea what their relationships are like.

But I suspect that you are so anti-royal that you won’t listen to sensible discuss.

I feel sorry for Meghan and Harry. They obviously had to move. But doing a tell all interview to reveal intimate details of your family relationships is super tacky and disrespectful. I now feel more sorry for the poor Queen- who is currently having to cope with her elderly husband’s illness, a stupid reckless son and now this. And she never gets a right to reply. Harry and Meghan know they can say what ever they like and it will never be rebutted because the Queen has never given personal interviews on family topics.

Meghan is ‘breaking her silence’ in the full knowledge that nothing she or Harry say can ever be challenged which I think is monstrously unfair of them.

Mummy195 · 07/03/2021 08:50

Responses on this thread prove exactly why that interview is needed.
The other royals did not have over 40 articles a day (yes people counted) of negative articles. Kate would go for weeks without any negative coverage.

I suggest you go read my links. Even scanning them, you will cringe at how she was treated.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 07/03/2021 08:51

I have a feeling it will be possible to get the gist of the full interview just by reading Mumsnet and watching the news. I think I'll leave it. I'm not interested in what they have to say actually - about this or any of their projects.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 07/03/2021 08:53

@Mummy195 how do you view the bullying treatment towards her staff? Do you believe it? If its true then she is not a pleasant person.

Cam77 · 07/03/2021 08:53

“a stupid reckless son“
I think there’s another word you’re searching for. One might be beginning with an eight letter word beginning with “C” second letter “r”. I’m sure there are other words to describe the moral character of people who hang out with Epstein, though I guess that’s better than Charles’ being best buddies with Jimmy Saville? Nice family I’m sure.

UltraVioletRays · 07/03/2021 08:53

Meghan is a very beautiful American actress (a complete outsider) that didn't tow the line or keep her head down and put up with the traditional years of scrutiny and negative press focused on any woman who marries into the Royal Family.

She very quickly 'changed' Harry in the eyes of the British public. He was giving grandiose speeches about changing the world, climate change etc while living a life of luxury/private jets etc. Meghan was also very outspoken and the public felt preached to and wondered "who do they think they are?".

Remember that the press love nothing more than to "put people in their place" especially women.

They pushed against protocol and spoke about wanting Privacy. This pissed people off.

Now they've gone, not to Canada or Africa but to LA where they're courting a hell of a lot of publicity - not Privacy. At the same time as moaning. Still.

It's partly due to the very nasty misogynistic treatment of WOMEN by the press and the stereotypical view that a WOMAN is to blame for stealing our Prince. Not only that but an OUTSIDER (American) who is disrespectful to our Queen.

Sod all to do with the 1/4 black heredity.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 07/03/2021 08:53

Didn't they (H&M) have more positive publicity than negative though?
There's always going to be some negativity and there's no excuse for racist articles, but largely everyone loved them.
Massive crowds cheering them at every event they went to and all that kind of thing. They must have realised they were more loved than not.

Sparklingbrook · 07/03/2021 08:56

Ooh are we starting early with the threads? Before it’s even aired.
