DH and I had a few wines last night and fell down a YouTube rabbit hole listening to 90s music. We then got into a heated debate about what the best song of the 90s was.

My vote - Set You Free by NTrance

His vote - Live Forever by Oasis

For clarity, we were both mid teens during this decade.

What's your stand out song of the 90s?

Haggisfish · 11/03/2021 21:15

Omg I was there!!! Utterly adore Jarvis. He will forever be on my list!!

Haggisfish · 11/03/2021 21:16

The levellers!! And grant lee buffalo. One of the best gigs I went to.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 11/03/2021 22:57

I can't pick one. The tunes that sum up the 90s for me are, Born Slippy, Girls and Boys, Smells like teen Spirit, live forever and common people. Im a huge Massive Attack and Radiohead fan but they don't scream 90s to me, probably because I still listen to then now.

Heard this last week on radio 1.... Took me right back 😜

I've Been Thinking About You by Londonbeat

Show Me Heaven by Maria McKee

Downtown Train by Rod Stewart

I'd more or less switched the radio off by 1988 but these three from 1990 stand out.

On Friday evenings on BBC 4 they put 2 Top of the Pops from 1990 back to back from 8 to 9pm. Am absolutely loving it. Amazing to hear so many tunes unheard or unthought about since then.
Show Me Heaven by Maria Mackee is number one at the moment on there and has been for 3 weeks. Not heard it in years but is a cracking tune!
Love a power ballad me! Hold on by Wilson Phillips, It must have been love by Roxette both fab.
I also love some of that early 90s slightly psychadelic, hippyish rap like Arrested Development, PM Dawn and De La Soul.

FreddyTheFlute · 12/03/2021 23:01

I agree with set you free

AgentCooper · 12/03/2021 23:01

@pisspants I was watching that! I love Show Me Heaven, what a gorgeous voice Maria McKee has.

And how cool was Neneh Cherry? That fucking Status Quo mega mix though 🤢
