Google says Rishi Sunak is 1.7m that’s almost 5ft 7in.

There are some really nasty people on this thread. “Never marry a short man” - wtf? I can only assume that all the posters saying that score very low in the looks department themselves and have a chip on their shoulder about their own physical appearance.

Of course it is. We wouldn't tolerate this shit for our daughters. No thread would survive mumsnet if it said "never marry a (insert unchangeable physical feature here)'. It's nasty sexist bullshit.

And what it's worth, my mum didn't marry a short man. He was 6 foot 4. He beat the living shit out of her almost every day until she nearly died for the 3rd time and left him. I can see she may have benefitted from better advice than "never marry a short man"

No, for me, it's really opened my eyes about how there are so many people who think it's ok to be downright nasty about people's appearance - this also applies whether that be because they are tall or short, fat or thin, ginger haired, flat chested, wearing glasses etc etc. I'm just amazed.

My sons are both short and mixed race. Neither of those facts are things they have any control over, nor do they have any effect on their decency as human beings. Prejudice on both those things is already shaping their social interactions, so yes, mums on the internet finding it funny to laugh at an Asian man's height just shows me what people might be saying about my kids one day or already.

Op was thoughtless not intentionally horrible, but other posters have been. If there were pages of posts calling a female politician surprisingly fat, or commenting on her size 8 feet and how they'd never date someone like that, they would have been flamed and the thread shut down long ago.

You proved what most of us here hoped wasn't true.

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. My dad is 5ft6 and is a wonderful kind man who has made my mum happy for over 50 years.

I'm short. I like short men. Rishi is not what I call dishy though.

Can you imagine being a mum to a little boy with either of these traits, reading these threads and worrying that no woman would find him worthy enough of love, despite him being a kind, lovely person? It breaks my heart to think of it

DD1 is 5ft. I always counteracted dumb comments from adults about her height. But I know it's much worse for boys as being short is less acceptable. It's not as if a petite woman isn't going to find a partner.

I wish people wouldn't be so stupid and thoughtless.

As for short man syndrome - whatever their height, a man can be a dickhead if that's his character. We already know that, no studies needed.

@HerselfIndoors Harry Styles is 5’10”, or was last time I looked into it with my DDs. Tom Holland (not -er) is 5’7”.

BTW googling “how tall is...” the first thing that comes up just now is ...Olaf from Frozen. 5’4”.

He is too slick and fake for me anyway, but 5ft 5 would be a no go just on a personal choice basis.

My DS is short for his age and is not likely to be a tall adult. He’s a lovely, kind young man. I’ve reassured him that most people will see past his height. Maybe I ought to have to revised ‘most’ down to ‘some’ sad

Agree... My son is in 9th centile and on growth hormone because, as starting high school, he got so much shit for being small.... Nice to see that will continue as an adult.

I can't belive some of the posts from adults about men's height.
