I'm just interested to know have people booked holidays this year on the back of the last news ?

@tofuschnitzel who is put at risk by people going on camping, caravan or self catering holidays in the U.K.? Especially camping seeing as transmission outdoors is practically nonexistent.

Yes, UK holiday in detached property in August.

I never understood the craze for camping last year during Covid though. Yes you're out of doors but you are sharing so many facilities with countless other people. Toilets, shower blocks, washing up stations. I like camping, but that's the last thing I wanted to do in the middle of the pandemic

Washing up stations are still outside and you can just go when you see it’s free. We went camping in September last year and at the campsite we stayed at the loos and showers were individual cubicles that opened to the outside rather than in a block so you weren’t in there with anyone and the risk of transmission on surfaces like that is low. As far as we know we haven’t had the virus and to be honest being at the campsite felt much safer than going to the supermarket does!

@tofuschnitzel I am sorry but we all make our own choices in life. This argument is one sided it generates money, yes it’s risky but we cannot just let the economy sink and I mean WORLDWIDE!!

I do care. I’m frontline and I worked on a Covid ward. How heartless am I? I will be booking a holiday tomorrow! For August.

Also I have looked at CP and the prices are extortionate... not that it’s your business.

Yes short break in the uk I September, booked for later in year in hope some resemblance of normality by then but have chosen one with good cancellation policy.

Not abroad this year, did plan to take dc for first time but don't fancy it with all going on so hopefully next year. Just want a change of scenery and the uk is stunning especially if you have the weather!

We've had a big family holiday booked for June since before the pandemic (16 people, in the UK) but it's multiple households so almost certainly won't happen. I've booked a back up with free cancellation: a week's SC for the 4 of us in a v remote cottage in the UK but it's over the border into Scotland so that may well be cancelled too depending on Nicola. It's the only weekday time off we have this year so if cancelled, we'll just try and camp on the odd weekend.

We do have 2 festivals postponed from last year, 3 postponed theatre trips and 2 postponed gigs still outstanding.

I can't wait for a holiday but for it is not worth booking at the moment. I can't afford to lose the money if something goes wrong.

If we go away it will be somewhere it will be last minute and probably local. Just looking forward to a little break away

@tofuschnitzel At some point though, life is going to start going back to normal. I don't think Covid will be eradicated, but we're finding ways via vaccination to live with it. When will it be 'ok' for you to start resuming life?

As for being grateful to be able to afford a holiday - DH and I have worked throughout, both of our jobs are pretty secure, I'm not sure why that would be a problem?

LongTimeMammaBear · 02/03/2021 10:39

While I would dearly love to go abroad, particularly as I had two trips planned in 2020 (fully refunded), given how easily things changed during last summer’s travel corridors and how other countries are dealing with covid (or not), we’re not taking the risk to plan to go abroad. Vaccinated or not as that’s no guarantee you won’t catch it or get caught up in changes to travel rules.

So we have booked a Uk self catering cottage. Travel there by car, self cater and visit outdoor sights.

Hopefully in 2022 we can go abroad and feel confident about it.
