Are people booking holidays?

I'm just interested to know have people booked holidays this year on the back of the last news ?

No chance yet!

Neither DH or I can work from home, DH isn’t vaccinated and it’ll be a good while before he has both doses. By then dc1 will be 16 - will they need to be vaccinated too?

Too many unknowns that insurance won’t cover from what I can see.

tofuschnitzel · 28/02/2021 20:29

No we are not booking anything. Can people really not manage if they miss having a holiday this year? I just don't get it. Even if it's safe for you and your family to go, due to having the vaccination, it may not be safe for the people you come in to contact with. I just don't think it's worth the risk.

^^this.

Plus if you can afford a holiday at the moment you have no idea how lucky you are.

Can’t people not manage if they miss going to the pub Can’t people not manage if they don’t go clothe shopping Can’t people not manage if they don’t get their nails done

No. I can’t manage another year without going to Spain and seeing my family whilst I see in this country how people are not even respecting lockdowns rules.
And don’t worry I wouldn’t be a problem for this country. I wfh so I can easily self isolate. I would be less risky to this country than many that will be staying in it and going having summer bbqs , getting their nails done and food shopping

WorraLiberty · 28/02/2021 20:34

Yes a 4 day coastal break in England

TokyoSushi · 28/02/2021 20:34

We have Cornwall in June and skiing in Feb 2022, hoping to go on a sunny holiday in the summer but waiting a bit longer to book.

mindutopia · 28/02/2021 20:35

We have 4 booked, pre-government announcement. Frankly, have a lot of AL to use up. All in the UK though (we usually do our family holidays in the UK so that’s normal and Dh and I individually or with friends go abroad - but not this year). One in May is just staying in a family member’s second home, so wouldn’t matter if it got cancelled as no cost to us. The others are either weekends or one is a week away between June and August. I have no concerns about those not going ahead as I don’t think there will be further restrictions during the summer (I work in public health, there are some concerns about next winter but the summer should be fine).

amusedbush · 28/02/2021 20:35

We’re planning to book something in the UK this year - I had so many events cancelled last year (my 30th birthday, two holidays, my Masters graduation), I can’t face the disappointment if it doesn’t go ahead. I’d spend the whole time leading up to it on edge.

Gertie75 · 28/02/2021 20:35

We've booked about 6 so far, the first one being on the 12th April, they're at our own caravan though so if they get cancelled we don't lose anything

Keepyourdistance000 · 28/02/2021 20:35

Holidays are not the most important thing in life.

amusedbush · 28/02/2021 20:35

Sorry, I meant if we booked anything abroad I’d be on edge waiting for it to be cancelled.

Yea, yesterday, for May next year. Can't flippin wait !!!

Bonjangles · 28/02/2021 20:37

Yes, booked two weeks in Turkey for the end of September.
Chosen Turkey as they seem to be doing quite well with their vaccination programme, so I'm hoping it'll be ok to go by then.
I did have another holiday booked for last April to Turkey which was rearranged to this April and has been cancelled again. Looking to book it for April next year (third time lucky?!)

EasterIssland · 28/02/2021 20:37

@Keepyourdistance000

Holidays are not the most important thing in life.
To you. To others it can mean a lot.
Bonjangles · 28/02/2021 20:37

We will also be going on a few last minute short break or overnights in hotels when we can too.

Holirem2 · 28/02/2021 20:38

@Keepyourdistance000 I’m sorry but it’s not your place to begrudge people of a holiday!! Some of us had our holiday booked before the pandemic started. It’s really not your business!

Where did I say I begrudge people having holidays?

If you can afford a holiday at the moment you have no idea how lucky you are.

Oblomov21 · 28/02/2021 20:44

I don't think this thread is very reflective of RL. I think loads and loads of people have booked abroad and uk since birth plan announcement the other week.

lolulop · 28/02/2021 20:45

We moved our Easter break to next yr (originally booked for last yr). Want the vaccine first & facilitates, restaurants etc to be open. Unsure re summer

BigPaperBag · 28/02/2021 20:46

Definitely not. We’re having enough trouble getting back £218 from Virgin balloons right now which was cancelled, definitely not risking losing thousands on a holiday.

runwithme · 28/02/2021 20:48

Have booked a bit of a UK city tour, all with free cancellation up until a certain date, and a night away at a Premier Inn, again with free cancellation.

EmmaStone · 28/02/2021 20:48

Having had approx 8 trips cancelled over the past 12 months (and I've just heard our Easter flights have been cancelled, and expecting May flights to be cancelled), I remain slightly bullish, we have a house in France booked for end July, and we've just booked a fortnight in Florida for October half term. My DD has missed important school trips which would have supported her GCSEs (which of course are now cancelled, and she has to get her head around how she will be assessed by school - looking to be paper 1s in a couple of weeks' time and paper 2s a bit later, and has had a full school year interrupted and told every piece of work she does may count to her final grade). I think she deserves a bit of a break, quite frankly, and as soon as we can travel abroad, I want to take her to Spain to practice her Spanish, to Greece and Italy to encourage her love for all things Classics. I don't know when they'll be able to do school trips again, but I want to be able to let them go on as many as possible.

Travelling is really important to me, both sun and sea, and cultural trips, and I want to show my children as much as I can before they no longer want to travel with us. And I think the children have lost so much this year already.

babyyodaxmas · 28/02/2021 20:48

I have booked 4 nights self catering in Wales , in July I hope we can go.

lolulop · 28/02/2021 20:50

- I can’t face being disappointed again
