I'm just interested to know have people booked holidays this year on the back of the last news ?

OP posts:

I've booked two nights in the UK to attend a friends wedding, does that count? DH doesn't think we'll end up going.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/03/2021 07:17

CBA with the drama of holidays abroad this year. Booked a few days in nice pub for half term in Dorset to catch up with my oldest friend. Booked a week outside Whitby mid August. Neither seem more expensive than previous years.
I understand that people have got hols paid for last year to rebook but luckily that's not me.

ShaunaTheSheep · 01/03/2021 07:39

I've been tempted to book something a few times but UK prices are crazy, and abroad is too uncertain. I can't get excited enough to look into insurance and cancellation policies.

Also continued uncertainty about exams, uni applications, DC's summer jobs, event tickets etc makes it almost impossible to find a window for a holiday.

ImInStealthMode · 01/03/2021 07:49

@GoLightlyontheEarth

People booking abroad, are you not worried about quarantining on your return ? How do you know it won’t be still operational? Or compulsory Covid tests before leaving?
Not at all. Lots of companies are guaranteeing cancellation / refund if that's the case.
Csx99 · 01/03/2021 07:53

I have Tenerife in late June + Greece in mid September booked. Hoping to go but won't be surprised if I can't.

reluctantbrit · 01/03/2021 08:05

We deferred our Majorca 2020 booking to 2021 and confirmed it for August, that's just the hotel though.

We looked at flights, have to make a decision by June to use the EasyJet voucher but will wait until beginning of May to see how the numbers are and Spain is doing.

Our travel insurance will only cover Covid medial issues, no cancellation for lockdown so we are prepared to loose the hotel booking but not that much more.

IF ANYBODY IS INTERESTED IN TAKING UP MY TIMESHARE WEEK IN TORQUAY HERE 23-20 APRIL 2021, PLEASE SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE!

Sorry for the attention grabbing shouty capitals!
I can’t because I’m in Italy and, looking at current information, I won’t be vaccinated and travel restrictions won’t be lifted in time. Sad
It’s a lovely place and they’re following all the COVID guidelines.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/03/2021 08:20

(*) 23-30 April.

bert3400 · 01/03/2021 08:21

We live abroad and have been inundated with friends and family from the 18th May to visit. It is helping that RA have a rebooking policy if there is a reason why you can't travel. We have also booked to come to the UK in August to go to Scotland.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 01/03/2021 09:16

@LittleRen

Yes we have a UK break booked and I have just booked one of the Greek islands (refundable) with refundable Lufthansa flights.

We moved Disney florida from last year but I don’t think that one will be happening!

Who did you book with for Greece if you don’t mind me asking? We’ve got two weeks booked in UK . One week in May the other in July. Holiday in Greece in October.
Silkies · 01/03/2021 09:43

Only just got some more of the money back from last summer's cancelled Asian holiday some of which took a year to get back as booked direct and around £600 haven't got back other than some credit vouchers from AirAsia very dubious will be useable.

DH has been vaccinated as CEV but kids and I aren't so not booking anything abroad though DH is French so I hope we can see his family at some point or at least he can, its been over a year for him now and longer for us. And his Mum is in her 80s and alone though thankfully another relative is close by.

So booked UK at Easter which got cancelled and booked a week in UK in summer then realised dates I booked could get hit by covid close contact isolations at school so moved it to end of summer holidays so it was £35 to move and cheaper but will now likely be in rain but at least has an indoor pool and change of scenery.

Will watch rules and will book a week more later on though don't know where as UK is banned from most countries and kids won't be vaccinated so maybe more UK but that's fine for another year. We've had loads of foreign holidays and first UK one last year and was great. Prices are up this year and booked out so fast though think there will be loads of isolations. Also waiting on DH's cancer test results. Would love a week in Iceland but if covid tests not risking losing money after insurance got out of everything last year.

lolulop · 01/03/2021 09:45

who are people booking with for UK breaks? pre covid we used air bnb but i'm wary now.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/03/2021 09:57

Booking.com. Loads of options with free cancellation on there.
lolulop · 01/03/2021 09:58

thank you!

Illputtheminapie · 01/03/2021 10:10

We've booked a camper with CWTCH van rental in Cheshire, because they offer free rebooking if covid stops travel, and we find campsites to be usually really good about moving bookings when needed.

Oldraver · 01/03/2021 10:12

We've booked our usual week in the New Forest, Covid permitting

Usual place we go to cancelled on us a week before we were due to go last July. Found another place were more than happy with

minnimiss · 01/03/2021 10:13

We still have a long haul holiday booked for mid June which was booked over a year ago, no idea if we will be able to go or not at the minute but I live in hope.

Silkies · 01/03/2021 10:56

We booked via Cottages.com and took the insurance out, its a place we've been to last year and last year they gave us 10% off after paying just for goodwill so think they will be reliable if problems.

lolulop · 01/03/2021 10:59

thanks

Zenithbear · 01/03/2021 11:34

Yes
Booking a couple of UK trips, a weekend city break abroad for autumn and already got a winter long haul rearranged for next year.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/03/2021 11:38

Plenty are evidently booking for the U.K. - the other day I looked for SC accomm at at favourite U.K. seaside place - absolutely sod all available.

Not surprising that one of the very few that sleep 2 only had a 4 foot ‘double’ bed! Who on earth in their right mind would pay good money for that?

tofuschnitzel · 01/03/2021 14:51

@Holirem2 "sour grapes"

Yep that's it. It's definitely not because I care about putting other people at risk, let alone myself, for a few nights away. We're still fighting to gain control of this horrible virus, and I'd rather wait to resume normal life when it is actually safe to do so. I care about putting other people at risk, and I'm not prepared to do that just so I can have a fucking holiday.

If people want to go on holiday when we are allowed to do so then you've got no right to criticise them. You don't make the laws.

noblegreenk · 01/03/2021 15:27

I already have a week in Devon booked for June since the beginning of last year - so hoping that can go ahead. My husband just booked a city break for us for new year. He has booked it with free cancellation though.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 01/03/2021 15:34

I booked a trip to the USVI...in November. I'm not even convinced we'll be able to go then.
