I’m just going to put it out there, kangaroos scare the crap out of me

I’ve just watched a video of a kangaroo banging aggressively on some glass.

It’s scary as hell. Then I made the mistake of googling kangaroos attack.

It’s a slow work day.

Just me? Or is there a benignly normal animal that scares the bejesus out of you.

I've been punched by a kangaroo!!!! At Steve Irwin's zoo! They hurt!

But by far butterflies are scarier- they have a their named after them that could end the world! Now that's scary!

Leaningtoweroflisa · 25/02/2021 18:34

well I was a bit worried at the time the kangaroo keepers might spring out and say that I was the kangaroo’s wife now, and I have kept my distance since just to be safe.

The dolphin thread reminded me of the recent news that some octopuses are dicks.

@Littlepaws18 Grin oh my god the amount of people who have been randomly punched. Or were you trying to steal his wallet, or knock over his drink?

Weirdly that scene in zootopia with the slow sloth makes me want to scream.

@EvieBoo2

It's horses that scare me. Always expect them to talk to me. And I live in Newmarket.
Did you watch a lot of Mr Ed growing up? Grin

Quokkas are very cute. And apparently very sociable — they're supposed to be nocturnal but have started getting up earlier to 'meet' tourists!

iklboo · 25/02/2021 23:36

For some complete unfathomable reason llamas & alpacas really like me! I'll go to a petting zoo and they make a beeline for me, follow me around & nuzzle me / stand for scritches even if I have no food. DH gets a bit creeped out by it.

Ladybird69 · 26/02/2021 01:19

I love lions and lionesses until our car overheated in their enclosure! The cute cuddly lions that were sunbathing 50 ft away suddenly jumped up and came to suss us out. Omg they are huge and pure muscle, I was in a big suv yet they were looking down on me who was trying to keep cool and keep kids calm, when inside screaming were all going to die!!! Thank God eXh got one last spurt out of the engine and we sped away out of the gates. Big respect to big cats now. They are beautiful

Silkies · 26/02/2021 07:32

A kangaroo jumped on my back when we went to Australia but luckily it was just a tree kangaroo as we were staying with a lady who rescues them. She said they never normally do that.

Biggest issue we nearly had with wildlife was DH was driving his Dad's new car in France (he's French) and a wild boar ran into the road and DH crashed into it. Someone open their window and said don't stop just drive on and said a lady had crashed into a wild boar there a few days earlier and gone out to check the wild boar / car and 7 wild boars had charged at her (presumably for attacking their friend). So we just drove on and just about got the car back home having to stop at a random house for water and Dh explaining he'd hit a wild boar.

The dog at the repair garage was very happy and kept licking the car. DH's Dad was less impressed. Grin

The slow sloth 🙈🙈

Theyre fucking everywhere. OH bought DS some socks for Xmas and they had fucking sloths on! Fucking sloths! Whyýyyýyy?!

Have been terrorising my family with the kangaroo images. They're all converted.

iklboo · 26/02/2021 09:57

@Silkies - have you seen that footage where the lionesses are trying the door handle of a car? Bloody terrifying!

Silkies · 26/02/2021 10:14

No I haven't but a while back I saw this of a bear opening a car door. I love bears but would be more than a little freaked out with this:

JaneJeffer · 26/02/2021 12:31

I find dolphins creepy but look at this.

Wellthisisallfuckingmarvellous · 26/02/2021 14:33

Some might say that the dolphin is single handedly destroying the coral reef for its own gain.

@FossilisedFanny

I thought Skippy was one of the good guys , makes me wonder now if he was actually the one to push people down mine shafts !
This is the perfect opportunity to share one of my favourite comics Grin

Also those mountain goats who climb the mountain then stand really, really still. Why? What are they doing? Who are they waiting for?
Grin

Can someone tell me what's wrong with otters (come on, they're cute) and why they see dolphins as judgemental?

TheChampagneGalop · 26/02/2021 18:20

Apes are definitely scary bastards, they're basically a hairer version of human hooligans.

BrennieGirl · 26/02/2021 18:32

There's no such thing as bats.

vampirethriller · 27/02/2021 13:17

I don't have a problem with real apes but I find people in monkey costumes terrifying.

TheChampagneGalop · 27/02/2021 14:47

People in t-rex costumes are even worse.

FixItUpChappie · 27/02/2021 15:06

I don't like large birds such as emus, ostriches or cassowaries.

I'm fascinated by these types of massive bird. They are so weird and wonderful...but I also enjoy a fence between. If I ran into a cassowary in the wild I would book it in the other direction.

Purplealienpuke · 27/02/2021 19:23

Millipedes and centipedes can get tae fuck. Moths too.
Might add cockroaches coz they're creepy fuckers.
I don't have a problem with kangaroos but definitely wouldn't want to piss one off.
Dolphins are highly intelligent, they have been known to save a person from an orca before. That 'scientist' sexually abusing the poor Dolphin was just disgusting.
I really love Tapirs and Capybaras.

Hoppinggreen · 28/02/2021 09:00

We were on holiday in Cape Verde.
Before we went DS was worried about snakes so I encouraged him to look up if/what dangerous creatures lived there. Not many but apparently the centipedes could give you a nasty venomous bite. Never thought much of it, I don’t mind creep crawlers in general.

One evening we were sitting in our hotel room after dinner and I looked down to find I was wearing one AS A BLOODY BRACELET.!!! There was a lot of screaming and panic until DH caught it under a glass, at which point it was definitely fighting back. He threw it outside and I spent all night not sleeping much.

peaceanddove · 28/02/2021 10:16

I have swum with dolphins. It was the longest 30 minutes of my life because I really don't like them. They have a terrifying rictus grin and they are dead behind the eyes. In the end the panic got too much and I had to be led out of the pool by the trainer, in tears.

PlinkPlink · 28/02/2021 10:42

Oh yes I have found my people - moth haters.

Utter freaks of nature. Ugh shudders

The way they fly past your ear and it sounds like a low voice.

The flapping and fluttering. Or attacking and diving as I call it.

The glowing eyes in the night... have you seen it when the light catches their eyes?! Bright fucking orange Shock

HappydaysArehere · 28/02/2021 10:59

Does anyone remember watching those programmes about that young man who looked after orphaned baby joeys. It was amazing as he lived out in the bush with few amenities but was friendly with vets and other supportive kangaroo loving people. In a later series he got married but his amenities improved. He might have had a house away from there if I remember correctly. People donated towards his kangaroo sanctuary. So don’t be afraid unless you move to Australia.
