I’m just going to put it out there, kangaroos scare the crap out of me

I’ve just watched a video of a kangaroo banging aggressively on some glass.

It’s scary as hell. Then I made the mistake of googling kangaroos attack.

It’s a slow work day.

Just me? Or is there a benignly normal animal that scares the bejesus out of you.

After goats on Llandudno High Street last year and there apparently being wild 'joeys' in Derbyshire, perhaps the OP is not being unreasonable to be worried.

Though my main concern are aggressive dogs.

squeekums · 25/02/2021 11:39

Shut the front door, is this true? They drown dogs?!?!

From wiki

Kangaroos and wallabies are adept swimmers, and often flee into waterways if presented with the option. If pursued into the water, a large kangaroo may use its forepaws to hold the predator underwater so as to drown it.[42] Another defensive tactic described by witnesses is catching the attacking dog with the forepaws and disembowelling it with the hind legs.

FossilisedFanny · 25/02/2021 11:43

@squeekums wtf !

Limpshade · 25/02/2021 11:44

Haven't RTFT but I honest-to-God got punched in the face by a baby kangaroo once. I was working on a rural homestead in my Gap Yah Grin and the couple who owned the farm had found and taken in this joey and kept it in a small pen behind one of their barns. One day they asked if I could go and feed it while on my rounds. Was trying to be non-threatening as it didn't "know" me, so once I was inside the pen I sort of squatted down so I was at its eye level. Big mistake, huge! It bounded straight over to me and caught me right in the left eye socket, giving me a black eye.

Was almost 20 years ago and I am still scared shitless of kangaroos Grin

Made me proper lol 🤣

CornishPastyDownUnder · 25/02/2021 12:07

Australia Zoo is near where we live-theres a place where you walk through the Kangaroo habitat and they all come around you with their Joeys-how could you not love this lol..you can just sit there with them..Same with the Uni here-has its own roaming kangaroos on big grassy campus areas..never gets old.

Spudlet · 25/02/2021 12:09

All Australian wildlife is terrifying IMO. All of it. It all seems to want people dead Shock I’m not keen on cows either 😑

Does anyone remember that mad fox attacking a village hall though? It chased someone and made them fall off their bike...!

Kangaroos and birds really give me the creeps. At feeding time, our puppy hops about the kitchen like a kangaroo, freaks me the feck out, hoping he quickly learns not too.

JaneJeffer · 25/02/2021 12:23

What's that you say Skip? Wellthisisallfuckingmarvellous called you a cunt?
Lead the way.

Vinorosso74 · 25/02/2021 12:28

The red kangaroos are massive and very muscular! We saw several (in captivity) when we went to Australia, the grey ones are cute but my those reds. That said I remembered watching one lazing around, chomping on something but too lazy to stand up to poop, so he was pooping away and it was kind of rolling off him. Apologies to those eating.

What's that Skippy? You've been Coober Pedy and sealed up the caves ?
KarenMarlow3 · 25/02/2021 12:51

Sorry if anyone else has already mentioned it, but there used to be a children's TV programme called. xxxx The Bush Kangaroo (forgotten the name of the kangaroo) it was a sort of kangaroo superhero who always saved the day. It was very popular at the time.

KarenMarlow3 · 25/02/2021 12:52

Someone has mentioned in it and it reminded me. It was Skippy.

squeekums · 25/02/2021 12:58

EvieBoo2 · 25/02/2021 13:00

It's horses that scare me. Always expect them to talk to me. And I live in Newmarket.

Leaningtoweroflisa · 25/02/2021 13:21

When travelling in Australia as a student, we went to a wildlife park where you could hand feed the kangaroos. One hopped over and even placed its little hand on mine as I fed it.

Then I noticed it had a raging erection. It didn’t do anything about this but I quietly and calmed dropped the rest of the food on the ground and backed away. It just ate the food, but yes that was interesting.

Wellthisisallfuckingmarvellous · 25/02/2021 13:44

Leaning surprised someone hasn’t jumped onto say you had done something to give him the wrong impression and led him on.

I hate monkeys, all monkeys and apes except orangutans and Gorillas
They aren’t cute, they are terrifying, like tiny little hairy murderous people.
On holiday someone tried to put one on me for a photo and I ran away, I never run.

Hoppinggreen · 25/02/2021 13:56

@Cowgran

I don't like large birds such as emus, ostriches or cassowaries. They give you no personal space, surround you if they think you might have food and the combination or claws and beaks scares me.
They are basically velociraptors
vampirethriller · 25/02/2021 14:02

I love large birds. An ostrich would be my dream bird. I don't like wombats or sloths and stick insects give me the horrors. It's the knobbly naked legs.

DavidsSchitt · 25/02/2021 14:03

Look at this lanky fucker. Ewwww
