Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

@FrenchyQ I always watched TittyBangBang. DP and I still go 'she's got a knife!' if we spot the other one making a sandwich 😁

I would suggest
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace - Channel 4 early 2000s so should be on all4 I think. Stared Richard Ayoade and Matt Berry

Look Around You - two series on BBC 2 early 2000s, not sure if you can stream it anywhere. Written by Robert Popper (Friday Night Dinner) and Peter Serafinowicz.

@Rowofducks

Russian Doll Better call Saul Inside no 9 Bojack horseman Black mirror I may destroy you Episodes

Then again I only know people who watch love island and xfactor .

I posted above about knowing most of the programmes mentioned and to me these are also pretty mainstream, maybe you've identified the issue with the mention of reality shows

As I don't watch those I guess it frees up time for dramas and comedies

Orpheline · 24/02/2021 07:58

Frasier
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Richard Osman's House of Games

@FallenSky

I've recently been talking to friends about a show I used to watch as a teen on channel 5 called The Tribe. New Zealand show, perhaps not the greatest acting looking back but I was obsessed with it. No one I know has ever heard of it! It's about a virus pandemic that takes out all the adults in the world leaving the kids to form a new society. Maybe not the most uplifting show to watch in the current climate though Grin
I remember that, it had some dodgy acting and dodgier storylines but was very watchable.

Graphista Shohreh has a very distinctive voice so she's always easily recognisable, even for someone like me with quite poor facial recognition. The Expanse is on Amazon Prime (it used to be on Netflix but moved after the second season) and worth watching for Shohreh's wardrobe alone, she has the most glorious clothes on it.

I didn't like Silicon Valley - none of the characters were very likeable.

That really surprises me - one of my favourite things about SV is the characters. There isn’t one I don’t enjoy - they’re not all likeable that’s for sure, but I don’t have a problem with that.

@turtledovelove

Las Vegas Entourage
Las Vegas was my guilty pleasure back in my 20s. So cheesy but I enjoyed it 😬

The Last Kingdom, I’m a big Utred (son of Utred) fan

orangejuicer · 24/02/2021 08:07

NCIS - which I'm quite shocked by as it's so popular.

SinkGirl · 24/02/2021 08:08

This was great too.

Lots of great ideas here, I’m going to pick out a few to watch - I have seen a lot of them but some I haven’t. I too am a bit tired of people asking for TV suggestions and people recommending Breaking Bad - if you haven’t seen BB by now you probably never will 😂 I do love it of course but prefer Better Call Saul

Acquitted on All4 (Walter presents) 2 series, it is really gripping - loved it, I know 1 other person that watched it and loved it.

Thicker Than Water - also All4 about estranged Swedish siblings that inherit their family hotel

There was another (Swedish?) one I really liked about 4 sisters who had come together after the death of their parents. At least 1 of the sisters had a psycho husband. - I can't remember what it was called.

@ShesMadeATwatOfMePam

This country on bbc iplayer. Can't seem to get anyone else to watch it no matter how many times i recommend it to people. Well, they're the ones that are missing out!
I’m a huge This Country fan too. In fact if there was just one comedy show I could watch for the res of my life, it would be a toss up between This Country and Father Ted. My son and I were wondering the other day how they would all be coping in the pandemic. Mandy would be the village conspiracy theorist, burning down the aerials and refusing to wear a mask. The priest would be a total lockdown fanatic, but would embrace zoom . I think Kerry would just do her best and Kurtin would be the local volunteer doing everything from manning the food bank, delivering medicines for the local gp, clapping extra loud every Thursday, keeping Ken’s spirits up

Everyone in Scotland has seen this. If anyone says they haven't they are looked at as though they have 2 heads Grin
squashyhat · 24/02/2021 08:24

Heartland on Netflix

Velvian · 24/02/2021 08:24

I think Dectectorists is also on Netflix. I loved it too. It also features Diana Rigg playing the mother of her actual daughter Rachel Stirling.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 24/02/2021 08:28

Love Still Game. Got it on DVD. Look it up on YouTube as well for episodes we don't have i.e. I miss that pissy lift. (Reference to a Hogmanay episode)

Obscure t.v. we've watched but get blank looks if we mention it are:

HyperDrive
'Orrible
Green Wing
Happiness

I see Halt and Catch Fire has been mentioned, but I thought I’d add some details. Period drama set in the 80s and 90s beginning with the invention of personal computing. The characters work in the industry. In the first season they are trying to bring a product to market to compete with IBM. By the end of the run the are trying to (in essence) invent the web. Some are more salespeople, some are more computer genius. It’s all about relationships, really, set against the risk and reward of various types of business.

NotImpossible · 24/02/2021 08:32

@Alfaix

Northern Exposure. Old but utterly brilliant.
Yes. Really odd but I loved this!
