Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

@Wineloffa

Superstore. I have actually cried laughing at so many episodes.
Same! Love this show.
52andblue · 25/02/2021 17:53

Carnivale was marvellous, OP!!
Do you know where I can watch it again please??

My recommendation would be 'Afterlife' with Lesley Sharp (2003)?

Very good indeed.

@LunaNorth

Call My Agent - a French comedy drama set in a Paris acting agency. It has big-name guest stars (think Juliette Binoche, Monica Bellucci), a crackling script and is so perfectly Parisian.

I love it so, and hardly anyone will watch it - as soon as I mention the subtitles, they turn their noses up!

We adore Call my agent! My husband is French so that helps. A different league to Emily in Paris. More grown up
Chuffaluffa · 25/02/2021 17:56

Judging Amy, never spoken to anyone who watched it, but It was So Good.

teraculum29 · 25/02/2021 17:56

@Crankley

Lucifer - 3 seasons on Prime then dropped by Fox (idiots) picked up by Netflix for season 4 and half of season five, half to come and then no more Sad

The Mentalist and White Collar - really enjoyed both.

This is Us - not watched it - may give it a try.

Greys Anatomy - loved it.

Good Omens - I thought it was rubbish

Designated survivor - people have recommended it - I've tried watching three times - given up

The Good Wife - loved it.

I don't know why people gave such an aversion to subtitled shows - I tend to gravitate towards them if anything.

They are essential for me as I'm really hard of hearing and always get pissed off that so many Prime shows aren't subtitled, whereas all Netflix are.

Lucifer is going to have season 6 as well, but no more after that.
RubyandPearl · 25/02/2021 17:59

@NiceGerbil I totally remember The Ritz and The Adventure Game is my favourite programme in the world ever

SultanOfPing · 25/02/2021 17:59

Ghosts
Lucifer
Silicon Valley (everyone on my team looked at me like I was making it up when I mentioned it)
NCIS Los Angeles
Oh, and Hawaii Five-O (the remake).
I am the only person I know that has never watched a single episode of Game of Thrones though. Maybe I need new friends?

herblackwings · 25/02/2021 17:59

Channel 4 - 'Walter Presents' has lots of great foreign dramas. I really like Locked Up (Spanish prison drama) and Bitter Daisies (Galician detective series).
On Netflix, Marianne is very good if you like horror (French horror), Les Revenants (another French supernatural drama) and The Barrier (Spanish dystopian drama).

deedeegee · 25/02/2021 18:01

Spiral- Very dark French cop series . series 8 just finished on bbc2-available on catch up...worth watching for eye candy, Gregory Fitoussi!!!!

catmandont · 25/02/2021 18:01

Travellers on Netflix. Set in present day, but the premise is that at some point in the future, our actions have caused a global disaster. In the future, time travel of a sort is possible, but only your consciousness can be sent back.

So they study history to find people who are killed in accidents and jump back into their bodies just before the time of death, avoid death and carry on in that body trying to save the world.

Great if you like a bit of SciFi.

herblackwings · 25/02/2021 18:02

I've just remembered a couple of Julia Davis comedies that are very overlooked but brilliant - 'Camping' and 'Sally4Ever'.

Yebanksandbraes · 25/02/2021 18:02

Marion and Geoff
Ghosts

groundcontroltomontydon · 25/02/2021 18:06

Swedish Dicks - about two Swedish detectives in LA. And there's Keanu Reeves. I'm hoping there'll be another series but I'm afraid to Google.

sugarapplelane · 25/02/2021 18:12

Ghosts and Detectorists - both are warm hearted and very, very funny

Tazmania77 · 25/02/2021 18:12

I remember two short 2 or 3 part programmes in the UK which I've never been able to find which I loved
1: the beggar bride - keeley hawes
2: sex, the city and me - had Sarah parish in it if I remember rightly from cutting it
I used to watch home and away all the way to when brax left then I stopped watching!!

StarCourt · 25/02/2021 18:15

Colony and Intelligence. Both starring Josh Holloway

BigFatLiar · 25/02/2021 18:15

The Man in The High Castle - Based on a story set in a world where the Nazis and Japanese win WW2. Goes a bit of after series 3.
The Crossing - People suddenly appear in America, refugees from the future.
Crusade - Follow on from Babylon 5 (was cancelled after series1)
Stargate Universe - A group escape via a stargate and end up stuck on an ancient spacecraft all the way across the universe (ends wierdly after series 3)

Bertiebiscuit · 25/02/2021 18:17

Person of interest - a scifi but yet real world thriller - starring a very foxy John Caveizel - haven't found anyone who watched it

Tazmania77 · 25/02/2021 18:18

Keep remembering more!
Cougar town
Life in pieces - oh my days if you watch one thing I'd recommend this on amazon prime its hilarious and heart warming. Only 30 minute episodes so not too much time to watch an episode or two. Although its that good you might end it watching it all in one go!!
