Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

The leftovers.

Although it got cancelled so I’ll never know how it ends Sad

OublietteBravo · 24/02/2021 20:48

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I don't know anyone in real life who's seen Good Omens, which I find astonishing as it's bloody brilliant. I keep mentioning to people, but hardly anyone has Amazon Prime so they haven't seen it

I’ve see it. It was also on BBC2,

MrsColinRobinson · 24/02/2021 20:49

Swedish Dicks on Netflix

@YesIDoLoveCrisps are you able to watch dvd? I don't have a DVD player of any kind any more, don't possess DVD's or cds either

I tried episodes and couldn't get into it, not a fan of Stephen mangan he annoys me

@MechantGourmet I'm guessing you and dh have similar sense of humour so you would probably like future man too. It IS nuts though! Derek Wilson is bloody hilarious but it's eliza and glenne I love best

SplendidSuns1000 · 24/02/2021 20:55

Gilmore Girls
Sons of Anarchy

People say they've watched them but have only watched one episode or at most one series.

ParadiseLaundry · 24/02/2021 20:56

@Graphista and @everythingbackbutyou
Future Man was absolutely awesome and an absolutely tragedy that it doesn't seem to feature on anyone's radar!

Candycats · 24/02/2021 20:56

YES to Mindhunter and Catastrophe! Seven Seconds and When They See Us on Netflix were both gripping. Manhunt: Unabomber (Netflix again) was also brilliant.

ParadiseLaundry · 24/02/2021 20:58

@Spillanelle

What part did you not know about? I thought they knew that the third season would be the last so rounded everything off well?

@SplendidSuns1000

Gilmore Girls Sons of Anarchy

People say they've watched them but have only watched one episode or at most one series.

I've seen both all the way through SOA more than once, I really don't like the ending though
LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/02/2021 21:00

For the PP who mentioned Maison Close you would like Harlots -and for the Harlots PP vice versa! Great shows both.

The show I love that no one has watched is Zapped - although I see it's now moved to iplayer so might get a bigger audience. It's how I imagine the Discworld to be - whoever did sets and costumes for that should be annexed for the next Pratchett adaptation. And I say that as someone who thought they would never be happy with seeing TP on TV. Good Omens was great but just not quite right given what I had in my head.

Also love Ghosts so pleased to see the love on here. And Chewing Gum was great - Stormzy's cameo a hilarious highlight!

Another show I loved but no one watched was Uncle.

pallisers · 24/02/2021 21:01

Touch with Kiefer Sutherland is great.

Maireas · 24/02/2021 21:01

Loved Rev. and Catastrophe! Brilliant.

Puppylucky · 24/02/2021 21:01

Devs - on BBC 4 last year and Flight of the Concords - 2000's comedy

Spillanelle · 24/02/2021 21:03

@ParadiseLaundry - this is a revelation to me, I thought it got cancelled after the second series! I’ve always been a bit miffed that it ended so abruptly. Maybe they just never put the final series on sky, going to see if I can find it somewhere.

ParadiseLaundry · 24/02/2021 21:07

@Spillanelle i saw the third season on Sky but iirc I only just noticed it by chance and recorded them and download the few I'd missed so I don't think they advertised it very well so not surprising you missed it. Get it watched! You will have answers Smile

Graphista · 24/02/2021 21:07

I've watched Gilmore girls right through several times having been a fan since it first came out and I was recommending to people I've even watched the new ones (now that's commitment!)

If you're a real fan you'll know this...

The writers always wanted to end the show with 4 words exchanged between the 2 main characters - what are those 4 words?

Doomsdayiscoming · 24/02/2021 21:08

New Adam Curtis documentary.

Then watch all his old ones.

Might be a bit much if you want to relax though.

Spillanelle · 24/02/2021 21:09

Thanks @ParadiseLaundry, this news has really made my day Smile

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 24/02/2021 21:11

@Graphista my laptop is so old it is able to play dvds Blush

I also recommend The Ritches with Eddie Izzard. However I think that might be hard to find as it wasn’t popular and got cancelled, However I loved it!

gottakeeponmovin · 24/02/2021 21:12

I love Superstore. I thought it would be the usual crap American comedy but it is hilarious

DirtyHydrogen · 24/02/2021 21:16
@Blibbyblobby I loved Ultraviolet! I found it online a few years ago and it was still great.

I also loved Upload. I have tried to get my DC and DP to watch it and none of them will. Thought it was fab although I suspect at least part of that was due to the very handsome lead actor!

One series no one ever seems to have seen is How Not To Live Your Life. Was on BBC3 about 10-12 years ago. Bloody brilliant. I wish the BBC would put it on Iplayer.
I'd completely forgotten How Not to Live Your Life. Really funny. Absolutely loved Phoneshop. I've done my time in suburban/small town retail and it is totally pitch perfect.

CathyorClaire · 24/02/2021 21:17

Siberia.

Basically a chilly Big Brother with blood. Lots of blood.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/02/2021 21:17

This is from years ago - in the mid 70s I used to love a series about a ship sailing round the Barrier Reef. When I was older and people had conversations about their favourite tv shows as a child I would mention this one and nobody had ever heard of it. It got to the point where I thought I might have imagined it.

Then in the mid 90s I was on holiday in Zimbabwe, in the back of beyond, and we got to a hotel where there was an ancient black and white tv. We hadn't seen a tv for 3 weeks at that point so I turned it on and there was my childhood programme. I immediately started watching it much to DH's horror. I was so chuffed to come across it again.

Since the advent of Google I've looked it up and it turns out it was noted for it's underwater colour filming, but as a child we only had a B&W tv and the Zimbabwe tv was also B&W so I obviously missed out on a crucial element without realising!

I've still never met anyone else who can remember it which is surprising given that we only had 3 channels in those days so it's not as though we had a lot of choice

chocolateorangeinhaler · 24/02/2021 21:19

Mine are old and were huge at the time but have never been repeated so nobody has seen them. They are

Making out -with Margi clarke
The chamomile lawn - with felicity kendal

ChocBeforeCock · 24/02/2021 21:20

Unless I’ve missed it no one has mentioned Offspring?

It’s on Netflix and I absolutely love it. It was a massive show in Australia. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me really sad when I finished watching it as the characters were like my friends.

I actually think Aussie tv is an under utilised resource. Secret City was really good too.
