Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

Blackpool with David Tennant
The Waltons.....but that dates me
Heimat??? Twas a long time ago, but I still think about it

duckme · 24/02/2021 17:06

Another, 'The Closer' starring Kyra Sedgwick. I don't mind the spin off, Major Crimes, but the original is much better.

doublenotdobble · 24/02/2021 17:08

@mrsfeatherbottom

Did anyone else watch an American programme some years ago called 'Don't trust the B** in Apartment 3b'?

It was hilarious and I have never met a single person who saw it. Think it was on E4.

Yes! I loved this too!

Also loved the original house of cards with the wonderful Ian Richardson

doublenotdobble · 24/02/2021 17:12

Oh and Deadwood, and Bodies are two of my favourites which no one has ever heard of.

NomadNoMore · 24/02/2021 17:23

A really old one (eighties?), Joking Apart, Robert Bathurst. So funny.

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2021 17:32

The Last Post, Britain preparing to leave Aden, as it was. And Indian Summers, ditto with India. Of case I wasn't alone, but fellow watchers seemed thin on the ground.

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2021 17:39

And The Leftovers. Pretty bloody dark and intense.

Covidcorvid · 24/02/2021 17:45

I love the leftovers....that’s the one that stopped abruptly and should have had another series and didn’t? Joseph Fiennes? Was gutted it stopped.

splishsplashsploosh · 24/02/2021 17:51

Corporate - if you've ever worked for a large company, you'll love it Smile

Timeforatincture · 24/02/2021 17:52

A couple of old comedies that my family all loved that no-one else seemed to notice:-

Maximum Bob - about a US sheriff keen on tough sentences, married to a "mermaid"

Beautiful People - Very camp young lads living with their very eccentric families dream of being "beautiful people" in London. Actually based on the memoirs of Simon Doonan (big noise in US retail)

Oh - and I was the only girl in my class devoted to the cardboard joys of Blake's Seven too !

Ch3rish · 24/02/2021 17:55

@Standrewsschool

“On the Up” - with Denis Waterman.

‘Just the One Mrs Wembly’

I say that all the time too, along with “Language, Timothy!”Grin

Are you thinking of FlashForward?

I loved the Leftovers, it was so dark and all consuming, I think about it a lot still. The bit where Nora said where she went.... I usually think about it in the middle of the night when I can't sleep Grin

reprehensibleme · 24/02/2021 18:08

You, me and the apocalypse
Nashville - the first few series were great and the music was fantastic
An Australian series called Seachange
Ghosts - we kind of stumbled across this - I love Robin
Detectorists - my happy place
An older Poliakoff - Shooting the Past with Timothy Spall and Lindsay Duncan

StormcloakNord · 24/02/2021 18:13

Misfits - I always found it really funny

Also I assumed Desperate Housewives was really popular but none of my friends have watched it!

MyGorramShip · 24/02/2021 18:22

Superstore I recently watched, was crying at it.

Tru Calling here too, I have that on DVD.

MyGorramShip · 24/02/2021 18:23

Flash Forward being cancelled really pissed me off!

Justcashnosweets · 24/02/2021 18:25

The Boys
True Detective
Black Spot.
All brilliant shows (apart from season 2 of True Detective) so I have no idea why nobody else I know has watched them!

Izzy24 · 24/02/2021 18:25

Don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it but ‘Last Man on Earth’?

There was a pandemic and only a handful of survivors who were immune to the virus.

I really enjoyed it .......,.,

midsomermurderess · 24/02/2021 18:25

No The Leftovers d finish properly, if rather enigmatically. It had Justin Theroux in it, looking mighty fine.

fuzzymoon · 24/02/2021 18:31

Back to life. Really enjoyed it.

Have you watched billions? We’re looking for new shows but I HATED billions because it was too much like my work. I’m wondering if I would have the same reaction to something like that.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I freaking love that show but they only have up to season 2 on Amazon and Netflix, and I refuse to get Hay-U

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/02/2021 18:36

Just started Superstore - vair amusing, thank you to those who suggested it!

Oh I’m thinking of Flash Forward. I did see the first season of The Leftovers, I’ve got season 2 on dvd but not watched it.
woodhill · 24/02/2021 18:37

I'm really enjoying Sapphire and Steel which is late 70s but creepy and watched it as a child
