Could I please ask a favour? Brain tumour petition

Brain tumours kill more under 40’s and children then any other cancer, yet they get approximately 1% of the national cancer research budget. Little progress has been made in the last 40 years due to the lack of funding. 80% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour are dead within 5 years. This is a heartbreaking statistic and terrifying for those of us living with one. Later this year will mark 6 years since my diagnosis.

In 2015/16 the government agreed that more money must be ploughed into this cause and promised to give approx £35mil a year to try and bring us somewhere closer to the amount other cancers get. Unfortunately, very little of this money has been allocated to brain tumour research.

We have 5 days to get this petition to 100,000 signatures in order to get it back to parliament for debate and try and get the funding at long last.

I am only young and have 4 small children who I need to see grow up. Please take a few minutes to sign this petition and help us try and get there, it would mean more then I can ever tell you Flowers

Signed Thanks to you and your family OP. Best of luck and I hope your scan brings positive news.

I have already signed this petition a few weeks ago, but I support you and agree with everything you say, it really does need more funding. I'm so sorry for your diagnosis, sending love x

Signed. My sister died from a brain tumour aged 7 nearly 40 years ago. I'm sad to see that not much has changed since then. Wishing you and your family all the best OP.

I'd already signed - someone very dear to me has a brain tumour. It's so close to the target. Xxx

My son had a brain tumour and I also have a friend who’s son died of his brain tumour. It’s shockingly under funded

Signed and shared. I lost my dad to a brain tumour a few years ago and it makes me so cross how little funding it gets compared to other cancers.

Advice4worriedMum · 23/02/2021 19:45

Wow, thank you all so much!

I’m so sorry to hear about your husband @MissyB1, it has a devastating impact on the whole family doesn’t it.

@DialSquare that’s so tragic, I can’t imagine how hard that time was for your family and the years that have past since. Part of the reason this is so cruel is the lives it takes of children who haven’t even had the chance to live a life yet💔

I hope your son has gone on to live a happy and healthy life @Ghislainedefeligonde As a mum, I can’t imagine the fear you lived through and I’m so sorry about your friends loss.

Sending you love @TheScurrilousFunge, hopefully this petition works and brings a breakthrough for us 🙏🏼

Signed. A colleague of mine had a brain tumour. I had no idea it was so underfunded.

Advice4worriedMum · 23/02/2021 19:48

That’s awful @Chocoqueen, I'm so sorry. It’s cruel the way it devastates families and gets overlooked so much when it comes to the vital funds needed to progress and improve the prognosis of those diagnosed.

My father survived a brain tumour many years ago.

Thanks
Advice4worriedMum · 23/02/2021 19:50

Thanks @Buttonbob. Sorry to hear about your colleague. I had no idea about the lack of funding until I was diagnosed.

It’s really unjustifiable when you read the comparisons between what we get as opposed to other cancers and when you see the improvements that have been made in terms of treatments and life expectancy for other types of cancer, you know that we could be in the same boat if the money was allocated more equally 😔
