Could I please ask a favour? Brain tumour petition

Brain tumours kill more under 40’s and children then any other cancer, yet they get approximately 1% of the national cancer research budget. Little progress has been made in the last 40 years due to the lack of funding. 80% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour are dead within 5 years. This is a heartbreaking statistic and terrifying for those of us living with one. Later this year will mark 6 years since my diagnosis.

In 2015/16 the government agreed that more money must be ploughed into this cause and promised to give approx £35mil a year to try and bring us somewhere closer to the amount other cancers get. Unfortunately, very little of this money has been allocated to brain tumour research.

We have 5 days to get this petition to 100,000 signatures in order to get it back to parliament for debate and try and get the funding at long last.

I am only young and have 4 small children who I need to see grow up. Please take a few minutes to sign this petition and help us try and get there, it would mean more then I can ever tell you Flowers

I lost a friend to a brain tumour a few years ago. The saddest thing I’ve ever seen is her 8 year old son at her funeral.

WorriedMillie · 24/02/2021 19:24

I’m so sorry that so many have been impacted by brain tumours, they are utterly heartbreaking. I’ll sign.
If anyone is in need of support, please check out the charity Brain Tumour Support, they do exactly what their name suggests

Signed. My dh is 16 years post diagnosis - doing well now despite 3 rounds of treatment over the years.

It's always shocked me how badly funded neurology is generally, not just research. Basic stuff like inadequate post surgery care on the wards, awful clinic waiting rooms (I saw a women with half her skull missing forced to stand and wait in the stairwell as there weren't any chairs), poor communication between teams, lengthy wait for treatment etc.

I've signed it and forwarded it to friends and family.

I lost my beautiful mum to this horrible disease in 2016. She was so full of life and fun. It came like a bolt out of the blue, and she died within 3 months, even though the doctors said 1-2 years!

I hope you're doing ok OP X

MrsFezziwig · 24/02/2021 21:11

Signed. I worked with both adults and children with brain tumours for many years.

starrynight19 · 24/02/2021 22:22

Have shared this on my social media op and got some more signatures on there. I hope you get it heard 🤞

Advice4worriedMum · 24/02/2021 22:39

Thank you all so much! We're so much closer today then we were yesterday.

I am so sorry to all of you on this post who have lost someone through this dreadful disease.

I hope so much that we get a breakthrough soon 🙏🏼 I will be homeschooling my kids tomorrow while waiting for the phone to ring with my scan results. It's strange because pre-covid scan results happened face to face with my oncologist. Then they moved to over the phone. Now they're over the phone whilst the kids are around and just me here with them.
I won't sleep well tonight but I'm just hoping that tomorrow I'll be able to breath again for another 3 months 🙏🏼.

Thanks again to all who have signed, shared and bumped this post!

My mum died of a glioblastoma at Christmas, six weeks after diagnosis.

whostolemy · 25/02/2021 06:37

Signed. DH was diagnosed with a grade 2 astrocytoma in 2014 and has it removed. It started regrowing in 2018 but they're unable to do a biopsy. He's had radio and chemo and is currently stable but so far has been too exhausted to return to work, he's suffering mentally due to the fatigue and the uncertainty.

Buttonbob · 25/02/2021 07:21

I wish you all the very best, OP. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

MissyB1 · 25/02/2021 07:30
