Could I please ask a favour? Brain tumour petition

Brain tumours kill more under 40’s and children then any other cancer, yet they get approximately 1% of the national cancer research budget. Little progress has been made in the last 40 years due to the lack of funding. 80% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour are dead within 5 years. This is a heartbreaking statistic and terrifying for those of us living with one. Later this year will mark 6 years since my diagnosis.

In 2015/16 the government agreed that more money must be ploughed into this cause and promised to give approx £35mil a year to try and bring us somewhere closer to the amount other cancers get. Unfortunately, very little of this money has been allocated to brain tumour research.

We have 5 days to get this petition to 100,000 signatures in order to get it back to parliament for debate and try and get the funding at long last.

I am only young and have 4 small children who I need to see grow up. Please take a few minutes to sign this petition and help us try and get there, it would mean more then I can ever tell you Flowers

Signed, my father died from a brain tumour over 40 years ago. I naively imagined that things would have improved vastly. Good luck OP, thinking of you.

I’m a scientist and I think there needs to be a whole lot more investment into research in diseases of the whole human body.
It should be made a priority by our government. There is so much out there left to discover and loads of eager extremely innovative and intelligent scientists the only thing preventing it from happening is money and resources.

I had already signed this, but I also think that as wel as money there needs to be a huge amount more publicity into this dreadful illness.

So many cancers are what you might call mainstream, and that has enabled many cancers to attract more funding than others e.g. breast cancer. That’s not a criticism, but obviously it stands to reason that the more someone knows about a type of cancer, the more likely they are to e.g. donate to it.

Breast cancer for instance, I don’t imagine any one of us doesn’t know someone who hasn’t had breast cancer or a breast lump at the very least. Whereas brain tumours are almost seen as something which happens “to other people”. They’re mysterious, and unknown, and as such we’re not as drawn to wanting things to change, even though they should.

My ex SIL died from.a brain tumour (glioblastoma” 2 years ago. She was actually one of the 5% who lived for 5 years post diagnosis, but she went downhill and died within a matter of a couple of weeks.
