Could I please ask a favour? Brain tumour petition

Brain tumours kill more under 40’s and children then any other cancer, yet they get approximately 1% of the national cancer research budget. Little progress has been made in the last 40 years due to the lack of funding. 80% of people diagnosed with a brain tumour are dead within 5 years. This is a heartbreaking statistic and terrifying for those of us living with one. Later this year will mark 6 years since my diagnosis.

In 2015/16 the government agreed that more money must be ploughed into this cause and promised to give approx £35mil a year to try and bring us somewhere closer to the amount other cancers get. Unfortunately, very little of this money has been allocated to brain tumour research.

We have 5 days to get this petition to 100,000 signatures in order to get it back to parliament for debate and try and get the funding at long last.

I am only young and have 4 small children who I need to see grow up. Please take a few minutes to sign this petition and help us try and get there, it would mean more then I can ever tell you Flowers

@eclipsechips I’m so pleased to hear that! It also gives people like me hope that despite the depressing statistics, people can live for many years. I hope everyday that I can be one of them 🤞🏼

Signed - I was shocked that there is nothing they can do for brain cancer. My DM was dead within 4 months. Well done for fighting

@Advice4worriedMum it was back in the 1960s, he wasn't expected to survive or have any quality of life but he proved them wrong although has some vision and hearing difficulties, he's still thriving!

Advice4worriedMum · 23/02/2021 19:57

@gottakeeponmovin I’m so sorry. Your poor family, that’s shocking. 4 months, I don’t know what to say. It’s so unfair Flowers

I lost my son to medullablastoma when he was 11. He would have been 18 this year.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 23/02/2021 20:24

Thanks advice, we are now 6 years on from diagnosis. He’s had a couple of ops due to pressure on his brain, but otherwise it’s just ‘watch and wait’ with a scan every 6 months.

Hope you are doing ok too x

So sorry you’re going through this, OP. Flowers

My cousin died of a brain tumour age 22, 40 years ago. He only lived a few months after diagnosis. I’m appalled that treatment hasn’t improved since then. It needs much more funding.
