Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

There are clear differences between the standing of a blessing and a religious marriage when you are the head of that religion

Of course. The religious standing. The legality isn’t affected. And, given the secular nature of our society, I don’t imagine that anyone apart from the most ardent theologians will give the religious standing of the marriage a second thought. Particularly if she is never titled as the Queen. The smart money was on Princess Consort the last I heard.

The religious standing is the whole point of the issue. The Monarch must be religious and must be the head of the CofE.

The legality of him being King whilst not following the CofE is the whole crux of the issue.

He could marry Camilla in whatever ceremony he wanted legally. Whether he can legally be King after doing so is the issue.

The style they use for her is pretty irrelevant because that’s very different from title. If she is known as Princess Consort whilst officially being Queen that will be no different to her being known as Duchess of Cornwall to try and pretend she’s not Princess of Wales.

Given the origin of the CoE, I find this absolutely farcical. As I suspect do you and - like me - just enjoy a good argument!

I think it’s farcical, however if the rules are as they are then they shouldn’t be bent for one person. If they needed changing then the changes should be open and transparent.

I want to see the legal arguments because I think it’s highly likely the ruling was made on the basis of the Human Rights Act and that has massive implications for the royal family going forward if it is...

Can’t be Catholic and monarch? - very likely against the human rights act.

Have to get permission from Granny to marry or lose your title and place in the line of succession? - very likely against the Human Rights Act.

And so on and so forth. My issue with people like yourself just accepting the stance and moving on is that that hidden legal advice and discussion is important and we should be allowed to see it. Accepting it and allowing it to stay hidden unchallenged cheats us out of the information.

Apparently BBC Scotland have just accidentally broadcast part of Philip’s obituary in the middle of Alex Salmond’s trial. It’s all over Twitter. Either someone has pressed the wrong button, or an announcement of his death is imminent.

A newspaper in Oz did the same thing on Monday

www.news.com.au/entertainment/celebrity-life/royals/sydney-morning-herald-accidentally-publishes-prince-philips-obituary/news-story/f1b1c75c5786f88f460445f8b59d2258

Cactus1982 · 03/03/2021 16:48

I suppose they rehearse for this kind of thing all the time, and will have obituaries for all the royals just in case. But it does seem odd that it flashed up now.

It will be announced by Buckingham Palace before anywhere else. Considering the time of day, even if he has died, it’s unlikely to be until 8am regardless.

Almost certainly someone has just prepped it to be ready (in the same way other things relating to his death were finalised last week) and accidentally published.

Roussette · 03/03/2021 16:51

Oh no, that's awful.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/03/2021 16:56

also comments on the “modern meaning” of the act

I have to admit this amused me, in light of Charles's railing against all that's wrong in "modern" society.
The same applied to his all-too-convenient use of the Human Rights Act, considering the views he's expressed about it: www.theguardian.com/uk/2006/mar/02/monarchy.pressandpublishing

Perhaps, as so often with the POW, the word I'm looking for is hypocrisy

VinylDetective · 03/03/2021 16:58

Christ, someone at BBC Scotland is looking at the end of their broadcasting career. That’s shocking.

Oh gawd Hmm

Someone won't be popular with their boss, but let's just hope it was a nice one ... I have a lovely vision of Philip roaring "They said WHAT????"

TheKeatingFive · 03/03/2021 17:02

Holy crap 😵

TheCatWithTheFluffyTail · 03/03/2021 17:02

Regardless of the fact anything imminently happening to Philip would have happened no matter what else is going on (I’m making it clear Harry and Meghan aren’t responsible for the hospital visit). Right now there is a 94 year old woman who can’t see her husband of over seven decades because of a pandemic and duty, yet without a doubt he is very ill. At the same time, she has to contend with announcements of his death in Australia and Scotland whilst her grandson and his wife are having a petty squabbles before an interview that is billed as being uncomplimentary about being a royal. It’s not really what anyone would wish on anyone.

You wouldn’t want to piss off Philip with an uncomplimentary obituary whilst he is still here to tell you off for it! I can just imagine the next obituary going out with his corrections in it.
SunbathingDragon · 03/03/2021 17:08

BBC in England have reported he is slightly better. Still fingers crossed though. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-56267807

You couldn’t embargo news like that overnight, the embargo just wouldn’t hold that long.

Roussette · 03/03/2021 17:12

I've just looked at the footage, really not good. They then moved to a 'problem with the transmission' blank screen.
You do wonder how this sort of thing can happen.

JustLyra · 03/03/2021 17:20

I’m going to bet BBC were having a run through of what they’ll do when he dies and someone pressed a button rather than just pretending to press the button.

Someone’s head will be on the block for that.

Oh dear. That sounds plausible. Imagine getting the bawling out when your job was NOT to press something and you mucked up! Smile

They’ve just taken a soundbite from Camilla. She’s hardly likely to say ‘he’s really not very good’.

SugarfreeBlitz · 03/03/2021 17:32

Either that or they deliberately created a mystery to take the attention off H&M

I doubt that very much.

It’ll be a slipped thumb.
