Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

I got a notification from HP before the poster posted that, so it’s not spilling secrets, but sharing what’s freely available in the press. I don’t see the issue.

the80sweregreat · 01/03/2021 13:45

It was on the 1o clock news today that he has been transferred to Barts as it's a specialist heart hospital.

'He should be afforded more privacy than this. I suppose it’s not realistic but there is something very distasteful about the glee with which updates (and non updates) are being shared.'

I can't believe that a private hospital has to rely on staff holding brollies to preserve patients privacy and dignity. You'd really think they could have had actual screens or at least have the foresight to have a private bay available that isn't overlooked.

Poor man, I'm not a royal fan by any stretch but getting wheeled out behind a row of umbrellas just seem so undignified.

Absolutely this.

It's on the BBC website - do you really think I shouldn't have added what's widely available?

I think having a press pack camped outside the hospital is a bit much in the first place TBH.

RickiTarr · 01/03/2021 14:04

@Puzzledandpissedoff

Sadly that was never going to be possible, RickiTarr. St Barts is a major hospital and sooner or later someone would have blabbed, so they probably thought it better to release a calm one liner before some idiot made a much bigger thing out of it
I hope that’s what happened - that a statement led to the news updates rather than snatched press photos of the transfer being the cause.

It all just feels a bit “breaking news” fed by a media hospital stakeout. Prisoners get to be elderly and ill with more dignity than this.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/03/2021 14:12

I saw an awfully sad photo of paps pressing their lenses up to the windows of the ambulance. I find that really disgusting.

He’s an elderly man and deserves some respect and privacy. Shocking for anyone to have that level of scrutiny when you are unwell. I hope he was sticking his fingers up to them.

peak2021 · 01/03/2021 14:17

@Puzzledandpissedoff sadly you are right. I hope the Duke of Edinburgh gets better soon.

Port1aCastis · 01/03/2021 14:19

By God whatever happened to common decency and affording a sick man some privacy, bloody press are disgusting!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/03/2021 14:26

They really are. I can’t imagine how distressing it is for HMQ to see this unfolding. I’m sure she would want to be with him, but can’t for obvious reasons. It’s made me feel really sad.

I honestly don't want to get into speculation here, but it seems safe to assume a hospital which deals with some very high profile people will have screens to use if they choose - after all if hotels can do it I'm pretty sure a private hospital can

However there may sometimes be circumstances where they simply don't have time to get them out and set them up

Barts is not a private hospital; it;s a public NHS hospital.

(Not for the first time) a member of the Royal family has been removed from a private hospital, to an NHS one, because that's where the best medical expertise is.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/03/2021 14:52

Unfortunately, private hospitals do not have an A&E dept. So in case of emergency they have to call 999 for an ambulance.

One reason why my friends who work in the NHS won’t have have private healthcare.

When I was booked into our local NHS midwife led birthing centre, my BF (an A&E consultant)asked me to find out how long it would take for the crash team to get to me in an emergency.

Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 14:52

I thought the picture with the brollies was leaving the first hospital. Rather than arriving at St Barts but thanks for mentioning its NHS I assumed it was private.

thetell · 01/03/2021 14:53

And people wonder why PH and Meghan wanted out - imagine camping out to get photos of a 99 year old man clearly coming to the end of his life. And they only do it because our nation buy in to it, we are disgusting.
And the only reason Harry and Meghan are in the papers so much is because they sell papers better than any other member of the Royal Family - their optics are through the roof.

The BBC says someone was seen leaving the hospital screened by umbrellas.

It won't be an emergency. He will be having use of specialist equipment that the King Edward may not have, or be having another op on his stent.

And NHS hospitals also have private rooms for people who want to go privately.

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 14:56

He was leaving the King Edward by the back (mews) entrance.

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 14:58

That's too simplistic. The King Edward V11 has very good facilities including ICU.

Also, most consultants move around hospitals and work at more than one.

stairway · 01/03/2021 14:59

thetell, I’m sure Meghan and Harry will now do the honourable thing and ask for their interview to at least be delayed.

Cactus1982 · 01/03/2021 15:02

It’s interesting how this has been reported. Intiitally we were told he was in ‘good spirits’, now he’s ‘comfortable’.

LoveYourUsername · 01/03/2021 15:02

@RickiTarr The hospital is in a street in central London.

He was not brought out of the front door. He came out of the mews (back entrance which is not used normally) tucked away around the corner. It's set back several yards from the street, but the press are hanging out like vultures and will be using buildings opposite I suspect, and leaning out of windows.

I don't see what is wrong with using umbrellas. They did the job.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/03/2021 15:03

Just as well ... I can't somehow imagine they'll stick him in a bay Wink

NoMackerelInSwindon · 01/03/2021 15:07

When I saw the headline that he was being transferred to St Barts, I thought that was a great move - a week or two in the Caribbean sun would be just right to get some sun on his face and refresh him.

thetell · 01/03/2021 15:12

@stairway Why? I can't imagine Meghan has much sympathy for the overtly racist & sexist members of the royal family she had to endure or the ones who appear to be pedophiles either (not yet proved.) She doesn't have to any more.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 01/03/2021 15:13

I don’t think I said he was on emergency. I was explaining that for some reasons people do move hospitals.
