Blue passport my arse.

DS has just got his British passport, which is very nice, but not blue. At all. It is not navy, dark navy or blue-black, it is just plain black. Which is fine but...why say they are blue?!

As long as I am able to travel, I’d accept a passport featuringBoris Johnson’s ring piece on the front cover

BarbaraofSeville · 16/02/2021 11:17

I think they're blue like police uniforms are blue. Only look blue if you put them against something that is properly black.

Nope. I've tried that, and it still looks completely black, because it is in fact black. Police uniforms are visibly navy to me.

I don't see the fuss about the colour of a passport tbh

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 16/02/2021 11:21

I agree. New passport arrived and its black. Even against black stuff, it’s still black.

Escalated quickly.

As per the Daily Mail the only objective of Brexit was to get a blue passport and it’s a Home Office conspiracy that claims black is blue

But is it actually gold?

Blue passport my arse.

When we first got the burgundy ones there were a lot of people who paid for covers to look like the old British ones. My parents and I thought they were very silly.

However I am now considering getting myself a nice burgundy EU style cover for mine when I have to get a new one later this year. Black or blue it's just going to make me sad to look at it.

There is a surprising amount of gold on it (it is quite fancy looking). But the gold is printed onto a definitely black background.

My (red) passport happily lives with my knickers! Red is easier to find in the drawer, rather than any dark colour. So why change? Incidently, there was never an EU requirement for the UK to have red passports. The UK opted to go red.

My son has one of the blue ones, the pages are very boring, the little window with your face in is quite strange as well. I also dislike how one of the photo pages is just paper with no lamination, that is going to get damaged very easily compared to a laminated photo page.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 16/02/2021 11:48

I agree, but I must say DS likes that feature.

I believe these new ones are manufactured in France. So it's probably sabotage.Hmm

SoupDragon · 16/02/2021 12:00

My old pre-burgundy passport also looks black.

You could always buy a blue passport cover?

UselessTrees · 16/02/2021 12:22

Ah, but is it black like a priest's socks, or if you look closely just very, very, very, very dark blue?

So you’re admitting to being very silly? Confused

Definitely like priests' socks and not like lay people's socks. Must have sent away to the special shop.

Yes! Good to admit to these things I feel. But my new blue/black passport will make me sad to look at.

Chihuahuacat · 16/02/2021 12:58

Yes the little face window really made me chuckle.

The 5!? pictures of my face was a bit much.

somethingonthecarpet · 16/02/2021 12:58

I remember seeing people in the 'other' queue at passport control at a UK airport a few years back who had blue/black passports, and thinking how old-fashioned and out of date they looked. The whole thing is ridiculous.

SarahBeenysBikerJacket · 16/02/2021 13:05

@TheYearOfSmallThings I believe the shop is called Habit Hat. Must be online only these days.

Nith · 16/02/2021 13:15

To be fair, the old "blue" passports were very close to black. I'm clinging on to my burgundy one as long as I can.
