Gosh that is an attractive item of footwear! 🤭

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/02/2021 21:04

sunbird Isn't it! Grin

mathanxiety · 20/02/2021 22:37

You may be getting the storm due here tomorrow, @MissConductUS.

I helped the binmen dig out the bins on Thursday. They were a day late, probably because of the storm earlier in the week.

I'm still occupying my neighbour's parking spot and she has mine. The angle is a bit different for backing out, and there is a six foot snowbank across the alley that's a little closer to the current spot than it is to mine, but I managed to get out to work on Thursday and Friday without a problem. I really love and appreciate my dear old Honda tank at times like this, but it has 125k miles on the odometer and I am looking for a replacement.

Girding my loins for a dentist visit on Wednesday.

highheeledhattie · 20/02/2021 22:46

Discovered I'm not going Lockdown Loopy as the quiet voices and music I've been hearing over the last couple of days have been coming from the radio in the corner on low volume. Phew, that's a relief, as I said to the television.

Workinghardeveryday · 20/02/2021 23:02

Grande Big Mac!!! Feel 🤢now - but so amazing 😁

EggyPegg · 20/02/2021 23:09

Fabulous news re the bike @Spudlet!!

Good luck with your continued snowstorms @mathanxiety and @MissConductUS.

@Therainisback, thank you! Way before my time then.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, not only is that a magnificent shoe, but it is a magnificent word. Could you break it down phonetically please? I recognise 'schuh' on the end as shoe and the ß symbol is pronounced as 's' if I remember from my secondary school German?

I learned something tonight. I'm on the laptop, so I googled how to make the ß symbol. It's ALT 0223.

In EggyTowers news, I have looked for my marriage certificate tonight, and along with my birth certificate, it's not where it should be. However, I know that I have seen it in a drawer somewhere recently. I went through three bags looking for it in case it was in a pocket. It wasn't, but in each bag I found a pair of socks and a tub of teabags. I'm not sure what that says about me.

Holothane · 20/02/2021 23:28

Our new floors are down we’re delighted, saving for decorating living room next then new bed in the late autumn.

Sunbird24 · 21/02/2021 00:23

I’m feeling really warm, even with my feet stuck out of the duvet

MissConductUS · 21/02/2021 01:14

Welcome, @highheeledhattie and @Workinghardeveryday and thanks for sharing your soothingly mundane news. Thanks for the update on your home reno @Holothane.

My dear MIL has had a fall and is in hospital getting checked out. She has some bruising but nothing serious. She doesn't remember how the fall happened. We're hoping she can go home tomorrow.

@mathanxiety, if you're in the market for a new car do look at Subarus. They're always top-rated in Consumer Reports and they are unbeatable in snow and cold weather. We've owned five over the years and have a fairly new Forester and Impreza. Both are fabulous cars, fun to drive, and a very good value for the money. We still have a 2012 Impreza with 140k miles on it that the kids use that has been very reliable.

I hope MrConduct’s mum is ok and hasn’t done any damage!

OrdinaryLife · 21/02/2021 08:49

Well done mini @spudlet on bike riding Star

@missconductus and @mathanxiety you must feel like this winter will never end. I mean, I like snow but it does sound like you're getting more than your fair share.

Hope MIL is home soon.

Good news on the op @prokupatuscrakedatus and what a stylish shoe that is! Fingers crossed for summer sandal wearing.
@eggpegg Grin sounds like you're prepping for some emergency!

It looks like we have a moving date of 5th March which is good and bad. Our current house has loads of built in cupboards so we never threw things out, just stashed them in a cupboard Blush yesterday I faced the cupboard of doom and found all ds's books from primary school - ds2 is 18! Grin

Anyone remember battery hamsters - gogo hamsters maybe? Yep, still annoying after 10years in a cupboard! Neither ds1 nor Dcat were impressed

@EggyPegg
Good morning, yes, a beautiful shoe and a lovely word I never new existed.
[ˈfɔrdərfu:s taɪ̯lentlastuŋsʃu:] but I barely scraped through my phonetics and google does not give me a translation?
It's Vorderfuß = the part of the foot where the toes are
Entlastung = take the weight off
Teilentlastung = partly take the weight off
Schuh = shoe

Tea bag for an emergency cup of tea while waiting - sock to put over the cup to protect your hands and keep the tea warm?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/02/2021 09:16

Good morning all. Today I am getting a lateral flow Covid test. They are freely available even if you don’t have symptoms. The DC will probably have to have one to go back to school so I thought I’d try it out.

If the weather is warm enough I will do a quick check of our beehive to see if they need feeding. They are starting to fly a bit now so they may be fine.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/02/2021 10:57

Chaz You've got bees - that is lovely!
I can't keep any but there are several neighbours (hives adapted to be kept outside inner city flats) who keep bees and I'll try to kep plants that provide food.

A crow has landed on my terasse. It tries to take parts off the trellis.

EggyPegg · 21/02/2021 11:14

I do tend to carry teabags with me. Back in PC (pre-covid) I used to play poker in a league every Sunday at the pub and I always took my own teabags so that all I needed was a cup.of hot water. I played with the landlords and they never minded. Even shared my teabags a few times when other players were feeling a bit peaky and wanted a hot, fruity drink.

@OrdinaryLife. What did you do with the books? My DC are 7 and 9 and we've been clearing our loft recently. My DH isn't sentimental about this stuff and put them straight in the the recycling without a second glance!

HelenaJustina · 21/02/2021 12:04

It’s so quiet here this morning, I’m a bit creeped out. I think everyone is reading, either Sunday papers or new half term paperbacks from Granny, doing the puzzles in the aforementioned papers or playing playmobil. But I’m enjoying the quiet too much to check!

OrdinaryLife · 21/02/2021 12:10

@eggypegg they went to the paper recycling at the tip. I have kept one of those folders for each of them for each year of school with work from the wall, photos etc. If I was doing it again, I think I'd do a file box and get them to choose stuff for it. DS1 has ASD and I doubt he will ever look at his though!

Champagneforeveryone · 21/02/2021 12:54

Congratulations to minispudlet, that's a great achievement and opens up so many more opportunities Star

Chaz I'm extremely jealous of your bees. We have solitary bees in our porch wall and I'm always thrilled and fascinated by them.

Today is a lazy day before two twelve hour night shifts so I'm still reclined in bed like a Roman emperor. In fairness I didn't go to bed until 2am so it's not as awful as it sounds. I also have ChampagneCat with me Smile

Hopalong has removed her dressing. She's well practiced at dressings and usually leaves them untouched so this is an extreme protest Grin

soddingkitten · 21/02/2021 14:05

Our gas boiler has died, so no heating. We have an immersion tank with a back-up electric immersion heater so have some hot water, but it takes an age to heat the tank and costs a bomb to run. I am on the sofa under a pile of blankets with Sodding for warmth. I am not looking forwards to working without heating tomorrow, but our plumber has messaged to say he can come round tomorrow afternoon. 🤞

Nydj · 21/02/2021 14:06

We have had pancakes today - postponed from Tuesday.

Oh my goodness, more snow in North East USA! I hope you manage to stay safe and warm through it all.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus that’s quite some footwear - when is the op?

Well done to mini Spudlet on the bike riding - I had flashbacks to the hours of attempts to teach DS and I have a feeling it took two years all in😱!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/02/2021 14:17

@Nydj
I have to practice getting up the stairs in them (101 steps up to our front door). If everything goes well - plague not interfering again - OP is on the 3rd.

We are having a Japanese style stir fry soon - DH is in the kitchen and doing stuff.

Nydj · 21/02/2021 14:21

That’s a lot of stairs!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/02/2021 15:13

The building is from 1911 and some of the original doors and window panes survived the air raids and even the urban redevelopment in the 70ties.

We were in this position at the end of last year, so you have my deepest sympathy sodding. Ended up with a new combi-boiler and radiators, which was pricey but oh so warm Smile.

I'm doing various (totally unnecessary) bits of craft and sewing, which means that nothing actually gets finished!

Sunbird24 · 21/02/2021 15:30

Oh no sodding that’s frustrating! Have you got hot water bottles? Glad the chap is coming tomorrow
