I am waiting for the call to pick DH up.
I cleaned the kitchen and made a to do list.

MissConductUS · 17/02/2021 12:34

Welcome, @OrdinaryLife and @ChazsBrilliantAttitudem, and thanks for sharing your soothingly mundane news. I'd love to stay and chat but I'm just out the door to go to work.

I hope your DH is okay Prok.

I love the smell of tar too. Also permanent marker, petrol and glue.*

*I don’t seek these things out. Just...if they happen to be around. Blush

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2021 13:01

sqirrel And petrol stations!

I am waiting for DH to be allowed out. Had to wander around a bit.
One day and the snow is gone.

Rainbowaftertherain · 17/02/2021 13:30

I've learned that my partner (whom I love dearly but is rather 'dense'if you will) has been referring to the Oxford jab as the OxFAM jab all the way through and it has amused me

OrdinaryLife · 17/02/2021 13:49

@Prokupatuscrakedatus @Squirrel26
They're just finishing up and the fresh tarmac does smell surprisingly good. Hope the op went well and your DH is ok.

@MissConductUS thanks for the official welcome Smile

Spudlet · 17/02/2021 14:06

DS and I have just cycled into the village to get cake in aid of the new playground. Then we decided to go for a little bike ride. However it started raining so I decided we’d take a shortcut home along a track that turns into a footpath (I planned to walk the path and push the bike)... all fine until we got to a muddy bit so deep that the wheels got clogged up and I could barely even push the bike along 🙈🤣 And neither of us had our wellies on! However we made it home and I have scrubbed the bikes clean (made more of a chore by the fact that we don’t own a hosepipe due to DH being a tight git - something which is about to change). Now DS and I are both in our fleecy pj bottoms and watching CBeebies though so it’s all good 👍

MissConductUS · 17/02/2021 14:14

You're quite welcome, OrdinaryLife. Smile

And welcome to you, @Rainbowaftertherain, and thanks for sharing your amusing partner factoid. Sometimes words get stuck in your head I suppose.

Spudlet, is it the hosepipe or DH being a tight git that is about to change?

OP posts:
Spudlet · 17/02/2021 14:18

The hosepipe! DH will always be a cautious spender, bless his heart. He had many other redeeming features and is amenable to discussion though. He’s just a terrible worrier.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2021 14:44

We are back home. DH is disgruntled (lovely word!) because his bandages hurt and they wasted his time by making him wait in the wake up room.

HildaTablet · 17/02/2021 16:06

Glad your DH is home, Prok, despite the disgruntlement.

I’ve been sitting working from home and I swear the pair of squirrels who have taken up residence in our back garden (because we feed the birds and it’s therefore like a huge free supermarket) are blatantly trolling me. I can see one of them cavorting out at the front, sitting up on his hind legs and flicking his tail insolently in my direction. He might as well be holding up a sign saying ‘come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough’.

I think this is payback for the fact that I burst out through the back doors and chase them off the peanut feeders approximately 572 times a day.

Nydj · 17/02/2021 16:06

Hello everyone!
I’m glad your DH is back home, @Prokupatuscrakedatus.
Thank you for the explanation of an ice storm, @MissConductUS. It sounds even worse than I had imagined.
@Champagneforeveryone, we are in London so the worst place in the world full of pollution and rude people or the centre of the universe according MN rules - there are no other views allowed Grin.

I made some scones and took them to my sister as a little thank you for her kindness and by the time I got back, Ds had eaten both the scones I left at home saving me the trouble of trying to resist eating them.

MissConductUS · 17/02/2021 16:46

Prok, it was not a waste of time for him to be in the recovery room for a while. People can easily injure themselves while coming out of anesthesia.

Spudlet, my DH is also a little cautious about spending money, but not annoyingly so, especially once I've explained to him why it's needed.

mathanxiety · 17/02/2021 16:54

We had 18 inches of snow over Monday and into Tuesday morning. I dug out the outside stairs from my second floor back door down to the garden path, then the path all the way to the massive drift by the back gate, then tried pushing the gate open, but I had to push really hard as there was another pile of snow on the other side. I finally got enough of my upper body around the gate to start digging awkwardly, and managed to squeeze it open and push through, and it was at that point that the scale of the digging job in the parking lot hit me. There was no way I could dig my car out in under two hours as it would have involved basically digging out my neighbour's spot as well as my own, simply to get to the spare spot beside my neighbour's to dump the snow. So I walked to work, and on the way I fell into a big drift and got snow all over my trews and a little into my boots, but I didn't spill the tea in my insulated mug. I decided to walk in the street after that.

Champagneforeveryone · 17/02/2021 16:57

As I know you were all on the edge of your seat yesterday when the mysterious malady struck DH down, I feel duty bound to inform you that he has his Covid jab at 1750hrs.

DM had hers recently and even she reported feeling fluey and off colour for 12 hours. It seems inconceivable that DH will be able to pass up an actual bona fide to get poorly so that's something to look forward to

MissConductUS · 17/02/2021 17:37

Math, the same storm hits us tomorrow, but with lower snow totals in the forecast. I can't believe that Dallas, Texas hit -2 F (-19 C) yesterday and that their power grid has performed so poorly in the cold. Well done guarding your tea.

Champagne, you must have the patience of a saint. I have zero tolerance for hypochondriacs. The next time he starts the shuffle of doom, drag him off to visit a pediatric oncology ward.

Evening all. Another day off here, another day of wild lockdown excitement. I have cut and pinned fabric ready to make new face masks tomorrow, as all our shop bought ones from last March are falling to bits. I’ve done some work-work 🤔 and some personal development reading out of choice. Sodding marooned me on the sofa by taking an epic afternoon nap on my lap, so I was forced to watch TV for a couple of hours. I’m now about to spring into action to make vegetable fried rice to accompany our roasted duck (legs) and pancakes. It is raining heavily here, so I failed basic parenting 101 and my children have not had any fresh air today. 😆

Spudlet · 17/02/2021 18:00

The hosepipe has been purchased.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/02/2021 18:46

Good evening (19:40 h here) and still above 0°.

Congratulations on jabs and new hosepipes.
@mathanxiety I feel exhausted just reading about your snow adventures.

They have confirmed my pre-OP appointment for Friday, so let's hope that the actual OP will actually happen (3rd March).

iklboo · 17/02/2021 18:49

Today we got a new washing up bowl. It's bigger than the previous one and can fit our biggest Pyrex dish in it.

DCat 1 is off his face on catnip.

And welcome to you, @Rainbowaftertherain, and thanks for sharing your amusing partner factoid. Sometimes words get stuck in your head I suppose.

Spudlet, is it the hosepipe or DH being a tight git that is about to change?

Thank you for the nice welcome :)

It's nice to get a little insight into people's ordinary :)

HelenaJustina · 17/02/2021 18:54

Our neighbours are replacing the boundary fence between us and them. It is our boundary but they wanted it to match their boundary on the opposite side.

The two workmen have removed all of the old fence but not actually erected anything yet. There was a disappointing lack of high-vis during the works so far, but it did entertain 3/4DC for considerable parts of the day.

@mathanxiety I like the idea of snow, and I like the picturesqueness and romance for about 20 minutes. But your situation sounds beyond what I could tolerate!

chocolateisavegetable · 17/02/2021 19:13

We had Indian tonight, but I forgot to buy naan bread.

forgetthehousework · 17/02/2021 19:22

I decided to try making nail polish marbled glass stone jewellery - inspired by a youtube video. It went quite well and the finished results are very pretty.
No doubt I will eventually get rid of all the drips of nail polish which now seem to be liberally scattered around the area I was playing in. I thought I'd got them all but I keep seeing another one. And another one ...

nancyclancy123 · 17/02/2021 20:21

I braved it and went to the dentist today. I bloody hate going and haven't been for two year. Now that I've been, I feel so relieved and happy. It's going to be very costly but totally worth it in the end!!
