My sick note arrived - the surgeons comment "we had to do a little bit more" not only resulted in one more cut, but also in me being written off until 17.4.21. I expected to be back in work around 24.3.21.

There is a bucket of dirty water in the "wet room". I forgot to pour it out on the 3rd. What do you think - how long until anybody notices and does something about it?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/03/2021 12:45

snails
If the news about Elysia cf. marginata and Elysia atroviridis are not a hoax, they are absolutely wonderful creatures.
And very exciting, so I am going to lie down.

Sunbird24 · 11/03/2021 13:07

I got caught in a horizontal hailstorm that lasted half the duration of my walk back to the office from lunch. There were only two of us out in it so now everyone is giving us funny looks as they don’t know why we’re both soaked down one side. The hailstones also hurt when they hit your ears!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/03/2021 13:23

@Sunbird24 - Poor you and work mate - could you change?

Squirrel26 · 11/03/2021 13:47

I have a split in the skin on my thumb (too much alcogel). Have put sudocrem on it. Just had a though. Is generic unbranded sudocrem pseudo-sudocrem? Grin

(Thank you. I’m here allll week.)

Sunbird24 · 11/03/2021 14:23

Prok - sadly not, but I am mostly dry now apart from pockets and seams. Fortunately I was wearing cotton, my colleague was wearing wool so he is still soggy and smells like a wet dog...

Champagneforeveryone · 11/03/2021 15:03

Our shift times have changed several times due to Covid. I'm now half an hour early for work and trapped in my car by the current downpour as I'm completely incapable of managing my own timekeeping.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/03/2021 16:12

Tatä, tatä, tatä Grin

Keeping my fingers crossed for your boiler part @soddingkitten

Re orchids. I'm banned from owning plants. I have a name as a plant serial killer. Except my rhubarb in the garden. That was there when we moved in and thrives if you ignore it. So I do.

I have spent the day in a rotten mood. I received an assignment back today. There was some confusion over the word count so I emailed my tutor for clarity. He replied that it needed to be between 2600 and 3300 words. I submitted 2800 words. He has given me feedback that I was over the word count.
I spent some time being very cross and then emailed him, including his original email to ask him to elaborate on this feedback (and associated mark deduction).

Sunbird24 · 11/03/2021 16:44

Good for you @EggyPegg, he can’t deduct marks for something he told you was within the word count!

If you were a farmer, would you be a serial cereal killer? (I'll leave now!)
EggyPegg · 11/03/2021 17:03

Superb.

Thanks. DH told me that I was getting upset over nothing, just email him and it'll be sorted, oh and he's probably got 100s to mark. I retorted that I shouldn't have to email him and that it's literally his job to mark them.
Significantown · 11/03/2021 22:26

I have a huge headache. It feels like my brain is trying to dig through my skull.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/03/2021 06:22

significant
Hope you feel better soon and have proper medication!
Was it brought on by the weather? Klaus (the storm) left me with the feeling that somebody tries to dig out my brain with knitting needles.

Spudlet · 12/03/2021 11:24

Good for you @EggyPegg, stand your ground!

Hope your head feels better soon @Significantown, and yours @Prokupatuscrakedatus. How’s the foot?

I have just given Spuddog a clipping, so that’s all the lockdown haircuts done. He was a most uncooperative client so he has a few tufty bits left here and there, but I can’t be bothered to attack him again yet. I have also changed the beds, so I get to do my favourite thing tonight and get into a lovely fresh clean bed - best feeling ever.

I’m struggling to know what to do this week, tbh - I can’t really remember what it is I’m supposed to be doing while DS is at school. I’ve found a potential volunteering opportunity at a local museum once Covid restrictions lift though, so that’s good. I feel like I’m at a real crossroads, I can go back to a policy-adjacent role of the sort I used to do, or try to do something different, and I’m not sure what I want or how to begin. I also feel guilty sitting about when DS is at school, so that doesn’t help. Hey ho 🤷‍♀️

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/03/2021 12:53

@spudlet
Thank you for asking - it's getting better, but swollen, so DD gave me a lecture on not overdoing it and keeping it "at heart hight". I was signed of until mid April!!

It's difficult when you are suddenly getting a glimpse of normal back (for us ape descendant life forms who cope with life's stresses by being part of a community and not isolated). Take your time and have a good look around and inside and something will come up.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/03/2021 13:54

Sorry to hear about all the aches and pains on this thread Sad

I'm sorry this is actually exciting but I don't have anyone else to tell where I won't be seen as boasting or insensitive Confused
DS has just got his predicted A level grades and has been predicted 3 B's with potential for 3 A's. Aside from that (which is of course great) every teacher commented on his diligence and focus during online learning and one even called him an exemplary student.

I know lots of teens have really struggled through lockdown and DS is in many ways enormously privileged, but he's worked really hard and deserves this boost.

Holothane · 12/03/2021 14:04

I’ve done my back not as badly as last time but enough to be painful bending over to reach a bin would you believe, but never mind at least I’m not screaming like I was last time. Beautiful day here 😊

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/03/2021 14:10

@Champagneforeveryone Congratulations!!

MissConductUS · 12/03/2021 14:26

Welcome, @Significantown, and I'm sorry to hear your news. Hopefully you are feeling better by now.

There are two men in high vis fixing the closer on a fire exit door outside my office. I can hear them muttering too. I'm a bit excited as this is my first high vis sighting. I can hear drilling.

@Champagneforeveryone, that's fabulous. I have never understood the whole system of predicted grades but it's lovely that he's gotten such positive feedback. Is he applying to uni soon?

Prok, glad to hear you are on the mend. Spudlet, take a breather and enjoy the free time a bit before you plunge back into work.

It's a lovely day here too but snow is back in the forecast for next Tuesday. Sad

miss you need a notebook to write down your observations - are they red or yellow ones?

Champagneforeveryone · 12/03/2021 15:25

miss, I can practically feel the excitement in your post - drilling as well, you lucky girl Grin

DS will be applying for uni to start September 2022. This seems ludicrously far away but we've already had the first stern meeting warning about the dangers of shillyshallying (an excellent word for you non Brits, and much underused IMO)

DS is desperate to travel and live abroad and is pondering whether he may have reasonable options at 18, or to do a degree and take advantage of the better opportunities for graduates. Maybe this will make his decision clearer Confused Grin

EggyPegg · 12/03/2021 16:04

Shilly-Shallying is a new one for me and I'm a born and bred Brit. Even my phone changed it to Dilly-dallying.

I suppose it depends on how he wants to travel and live abroad. Does he want to have no fixed itinerary and just explore and see the world, picking up short term jobs here and there? In which case I'd say to go before uni. Or does he want to relocate and live abroad as a Proper Grown Up? As that is a better option for graduates.

I'm 38 and still desperate to love abroad. I can't persuade DH though and given that he's the breadwinner, he gets the final say.

MissConductUS · 12/03/2021 16:25

Prok, they wore yellow high vis and had a yellow ladder.

Champagne The drilling and door repair conversations were certainly a bonus. One of them was named Eddie. I have added shillyshallying to my collection of Britishism. My spell check is not underlining, so it does exist in some American dictionary. The college application process is quite an experience. Let me know if you think he might want to study in the US. I can offer loads of advice and do so regularly in the higher ed forum. Here's an example.
