I'm back, with the right side of my face still numb from the novocaine. It's going to be quite sore when it wears off. I'm wfh for the rest of the day. I may go out and pick up lunch for DS and myself in a bit.

Champagne, why do you need ice cubes to water the orchids?

Prok, I'm glad to hear that your DB has had his immunizations and hope they get to you and your family soon. Which vaccines are being distributed in Germany?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 17:55

@MissConductUS
At the moment Pfizer, Astrazaneca (sounds like a spell out of Harry Potter) and Modena. The speed really seems to be an admin problem i. e. lack of a common database. Yes, I was all for strict data protection laws, we all were, we were young ....

Champagne why ice cubes. My attempts at keeping even the most basic orchid alive have always failed miserably.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/03/2021 19:47

Oh dear, I had no idea my blasé mention of my orchids would paint me as some kind of specialist

I have three. I have reached the age where people do not know what to buy me for my birthday and thus I get orchids. They've always lived a rather ropey existence until the inspired day I moved them to my bathroom windowsill.

They apparently thoroughly enjoy the steam from the shower and the light through the window is perfect for their delicate sensibilities. The ice cubes, that little bit of advice comes from the M&S care label so must definitely be true. I believe it's so they can suck up what water they need slowly as it melts. Either way, I have an ice cube tray specially for them, and drop them a cube or two once a week. So far I've got new leaves and a flower bud

mathanxiety · 10/03/2021 20:32

I have managed to kill all four unlucky orchids that found their way into my (clearly) blighted home. Now thanks to Champagneforeveryone, I have the glimmer of a hope that a steamy bathroom with light that is muted may be the place for future purchases and gifts to enjoy a longer life than their predecessors.

Our snow is almost all gone. There are still huge, dirty mounds in car parks, and cleaner mounds piled up on the north sides of garages and fences, but they all have runoff. We're expecting showers tonight, and temps today are decidedly warm.

The vaccination 'system' for covid continues to be chaotic where I am in the US. I don't think supply is the problem any more, but apparently nobody gave any thought to the fact that the very disadvantaged elderly don't have access to computers or any experience of using them. Booking of appointments by phone as well as online started up for a spanking new centre in the nearby large city, but the lines were quickly overwhelmed. People got through to full voice mailboxes after three or four hours trying. A review of the bookings for the second week the centre was open found that most of them were made by groups who are not in the vulnerable categories the city public health authorities are still trying to reach. They were still eligible, but now all those appointments have been rescheduled. The state has moved on to some less vulnerable groups but the city is still struggling.

I have had no luck getting an appointment for a few weeks now, despite being in a category that is eligible (occupation). I reckon I will get vaccinated around the end of May at the rate things are moving.

My front-loading zip-fastening bralet crop top thing managed to undo itself at lunch time

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 20:45

Champagne Bathroom with muted light and ice cubes. I have no orchids right now - but I will try again.

sunbird That has disquieting possibilities .... in public?

Sunbird24 · 10/03/2021 20:56

@Prokupatuscrakedatus well it was covered by my clothes so nobody saw, and fortunately it only came apart the last bit when I was in a place where I could get it back together without being interrupted!

Nydj · 10/03/2021 21:40

Oh Sunbird that is not dull at all! I have one of those bras - will keep it for home days which is everyday for ever and ever at this rate.

On orchids - I read somewhere that the reason they are usually sold in clear pots is because their root like to see some light. Not sure how true that is but thought I’d mention it.

I’m glad your dental treatment went ahead today, OP and hope that you feel ok when the numbing stuff wears off.

I thought of this tread while working today as work was particularly dull and uninteresting.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 21:45

@Sunbird24 - That's good to hear.

I wear prostheses (sp.) and there is always the possibility that my upper region develops a life of its own.

DD just brought me fried ham and toast Smile

Frownette · 10/03/2021 21:49

@MissConductUS what sort of side effects did he have?

I just went to the shop, it's ferociously windy out

soddingkitten · 10/03/2021 23:02

It is stormy here too. The wind coming down the chimney is noisy. We have heavy rain too. DH was the only one to venture out today.

Our boiler part is in transit from the manufacturer to the local supplier. It should be here tomorrow or Friday. I hope it’s tomorrow so we can have it fitted Friday. I’m dying to have a proper shower and go to bed without my long jumper on.

MissConductUS · 10/03/2021 23:03

@Frownette - He had a mild persistent headache and two nights of insomnia. Sleeplessness is a less common but well-documented side effect of the mRNA vaccines. The headache wasn't that much of a problem but the insomnia was more impactful.

@MissConductUS I guess at least it's out of the way!

RhubarbCustardy · 10/03/2021 23:41

I put a pair of white trainers in the washing machine with some whitening powder.
Didn't look any different. 🤔😂🙄🤣☺️😁🤭Need this now🛌

MissConductUS · 11/03/2021 00:25

Frownette, that's quite true and I'm thrilled that he'll have some immunity shortly, but he can probably expect the same and worse after his second dose.

He's a keeper and CV, so it's really good news that he's started the immunization.

It is so windy! I’m a bit concerned about DD getting the bus and then walking a mile to school. Not concerned enough to drive her all the way as I would be extremely late for work.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/03/2021 07:13

Windy and raining here, too, and grey.
Klaus has given me a migraine and I can't walk it off.

Frownette · 11/03/2021 07:38

Klaus?

The wind kept me up all night, my bedroom window was creaking and I was worried it'd blown in.

This is quite exciting to me but I've just had my breakfast of warm pizza from the bakery and a chilled latte

Frownette · 11/03/2021 07:39

I think you said something about working outside Helena? Wrap up

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/03/2021 08:47

@Frownette
That is the name of the current storm.

Frownette · 11/03/2021 08:52

Ahhh! I wondered who Klaus was and why he'd upset you Smile

Very windy here too-my 2 spaniels are wandering around the living room looking very worried. I'll take them out later, but I'm waiting for a delivery from Hotel Chocolat. (Yum!)

HelenaJustina · 11/03/2021 09:53

@sueelleker and @Frownette very jealous of your delicious sounding morning snacks!

I was outside on gate duty for 30 minutes this morning, it wasn’t too bad, v windy but sunny! Much better than yesterday in the very cold rain!

Squirrel26 · 11/03/2021 12:21

Someone just joined my Teams meeting an hour early, with what sounded like a pneumatic drill in the background. We got a close up of his puzzled face until someone else either muted him or kicked him out. Grin
