Someone keeps ringing an office down the corridor that is either empty or occupied by someone with a iron will. I might have to go in there and throw the phone out of the window.

Nothing like a proportionate response. Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/03/2021 10:50

Squirrel I usually work in a open plan office where you can hear every phone. I would probably go and re-route incoming calls, while muttering sth ...

I have ordered a cheap plastic seat to put into the shower, hopefully it will arrive today. And some crocheting yarn to finish a blanket - otherwise I start eating to keep my hands occupied as I can't do much.

Nydj · 09/03/2021 12:52

It’s such a lovely sunny day here today. Can actually feel the warmth of the sun

MissConductUS · 09/03/2021 13:30

Welcome, @HairyFeline, and thanks for sharing your ergonomic enhancement news. We have all spent an inordinate amount of time with our laptops in the last year.

Squirrel, might I suggest simply unplugging the phone? The occupant might not even notice that it's not working for weeks. Smile

We're in a warming trend now too, with a forecast high of 15 degrees C today. I still have snow in my yard.

DH has been suffering from sleeplessness for the last two night. I checked and it's a known side effect of the Pfizer jab, just not a very common one. I hope he gets over it soon as it's making him a bit grumpy.

Today feels hopeful, as if we may actually be making some progress.

DS has a LFT tomorrow, if that's clear he returns to 6th form on Thursday. We had a Teams meeting this morning about uni applications which are frighteningly closer than I had imagined, but which also gives an indication that things are changing and moving along.

He has also paid DM for her old car so now officially has his own set of wheels (albeit one that he cannot yet drive!) and is the first in his friend group to do so. He also has a date to return to work and had a new drum head arrive today, so all in all is as ecstatic as a cool 16yo gets Grin

Meanwhile DH is sanding our garden furniture.

Spudlet · 09/03/2021 13:57

I have roused myself from yesterday’s complete exhaustion slothfulness and have been for a short run, had a bath, done two loads of laundry, dusted, hoovered and polished downstairs and baked some brownies. Now I am sitting reading A History of Ancient Britain by Neil Oliver and Mumsnetting, and fantasising about going back to university to become an archeologist (I can’t, I can’t afford it...).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/03/2021 14:16

I am having fun with an indoeuropean cognates dictionary.
The plastic seat is about to be delivered. I will be able to take a proper shower. Smile

MissConductUS · 09/03/2021 16:40

Champagne, good luck with the uni applications. I've spent the last few years going through that with my two DC. The process is complex enough here that we hired a college admissions counselor to work with them. Their secondary school is supposed to provide this service but do a very minimal job with it. Getting the list of uni's he can get into and will thrive at is the key to success. If at all possible visit them before applying as that's the best way to really get a feeling for the campus culture and talk to the students there about their experience.

Spudlet, your industry is very impressive and perhaps just a bit intimidating. DH is also fascinated by early British history and has been since he worked in London and visited all of the museums.

By the way, I did not mean to imply the DH was ready to put on the Dressing Gown of Doom over his covid jab side effects. He's actually quite stoic and a good sport about it. I just know when he's not feeling quite right.

When I had my knee and foot operations (different times) I wrapped a plastic bin liner round my leg to keep it dry.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/03/2021 17:20

@sueelleker Yes, that's what I did, too, and it worked. I just felt safer sitting down and not resting on "The shoe". This is to say, I am prpoerly clean now, bandages changed, DD took fotos and feel a lot better.

Sunbird24 · 09/03/2021 19:07

I managed to knock over a full cup of tea right as I was starting a Skype call in the office earlier, so had to try and work through that for 30 mins with tea pouring off the back of the desk onto the carpet. Fortunately it’s cheap dark coloured industrial carpet so doesn’t show. Gave it all a wipe down with anti-bac as soon as I was free so the desk hasn’t been so clean in ages. Also, it’s not my desk. Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 09/03/2021 19:37

Today I defrosted the freezer.

The freezer now appears not to be getting cold Hmm

I'm possibly being impatient (it has been said before) but I have a months worth of dog food arriving on Thursday

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 09/03/2021 20:52

Today was less enraging than yesterday*. I sat about doing nothing at my first call while arguments went in above my pay grade, had a baguette for lunch, sat about at my second call while they removed machine parts at a glacial pace. Managed to wash down the vehicle before the night shift needed it, which was nice.

*Yesterday: a toss up between my gullibility and other people's fuckwittage that saw me finish far too late.

HelenaJustina · 09/03/2021 21:10

@Squirrel26 I’m all about the disproportionate response... it’s the only way they learn!

I’ve been for a walk with my sister! Socially distanced. I haven’t seen her since August, she is my first friend and I’ve missed her so much.

MissConductUS · 09/03/2021 21:18

Welcome, @DisgraceToTheYChromosome, and thanks for sharing your work-related duties news. I'm glad that today was an improvement over yesterday.

Was it just the baguette for lunch or was there some cheese or meat to go with it?

sproutsandparsnips · 09/03/2021 21:51

I have today made a mocha fudge cake for Mr Sprouts birthday. I was very concerned as the recipe seemed to make for a very liquid icing. My concerns were well founded, and I had to add extra icing sugar. It still slid off the cake a bit and had to have an emergency stay in the fridge. Also it required the use of almost every utensil in the kitchen. If I had known these things when I started I may have done something else.......

HelenaJustina · 10/03/2021 06:28

@sproutsandparsnips when this happens to me I always mean to scribble a note in the recipe book warning me for next time. This does not always rarely happens and I end up repeating the mistake!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 07:53

Good morning, woke up to bright sunlight through the bedroom windows (uncleanably high up), when I checked on the temperatures it was -1° and they predict storm.

I am happy to say that the foot behaves. And I was right - apart from laundry (DD) and food related stuff (DH) no housework gets done. I'll wait till Saturday to see if they fall into my schedule, or not Grin

MissConductUS · 10/03/2021 12:34

I'm off to the periodontist shortly. He finally got the kit he needed to remove and replace the dental implant I broke in January. So he'll do that and a bone graft.

My never-ending saga of dental disasters continues, unfortunately.

DH slept much better last night, so he is hopefully over the short-term side effects of his coved jab.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 13:10

@MissConductUS - I hope everything goes smoothly and best wishes for your DH.
DB just had his second. He sent a photo wearing a very strange cap Hmm, but it is his head. They started on group 2 (incl. people with Tri21 I am happy to know).
We are waiting for "Klaus the strom"

Squirrel26 · 10/03/2021 14:15

I need to defrost my freezer, but I am eating my way through the contents first. I’m doing quite well, but I have a bag of frozen prawns and quite a lot of frozen green beans to go. Maybe I should make some kind of big prawn-and-bean stir fry.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 14:45

That sounds like a good idea and tasty.

I got a tom yam packet soup, while DH went out for a Lamacun with salad and hot sauce.

forgetthehousework · 10/03/2021 14:45

Hello all, I've been having a bit of a technology break (ie the bloody technology has not been working properly), but actually it's been quite nice to catch up with other things and write some letters to friends and relatives. However I do want you to know that I haven't done anything practical!

Champagneforeveryone · 10/03/2021 16:02

Splendid housework, it would be most disappointing had you spent your time away doing anything exciting or productive.

missconduct your dental issues sound horrible. I'm a bit of a wimp at the dentist (with good reason as it happens) and you have my greatest sympathy.

The freezer did get cold again, which was a relief. Today I refilled the ice cube tray so that I can water my orchids later.

DS's LFT was negative so he goes back to sixth form tomorrow Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/03/2021 16:35

@Champagneforeveryone
Tell me about your orchids!
