@Sunbird24, your post reminded me that it's been ages since I posted a picture of a bird on my feeder and the front garden, so here it is. You can see that a lot of the snow has melted off, but there's still plenty where it's in the shadow of the house.

That's a good plan, Frownette. It's best to be cautious with any infection in the mouth. They move very easily into the bloodstream.

Hilda, the prices went down when Amazon bought them and they had the nickname Whole Paycheck. In a memorable episode of The Simpsons a single sack of groceries rings up at $800 until the cashier notices a tiny packet of blueberries she missed, then it goes up to $840. Smile It's better now and there's a 10% discount for Amazon Prime members. I only go there for certain things, it's not a good place to pick up everyday items. It is fun to shop there though.

Glad for all of you who get / got vaccinated. Star
It is very slow going here. It seems they are aiming for "double dosing" all healthcare staff and care home inmates. There are about 35 million people in line before me.

Prok, I've read about the problems with the vaccination program in Germany and the EU in general. It was shocking to me, as you all have universal heath care, with centralized medical records. That should make it much easier than it's been here. I assume it mostly comes down to the EU failing to procure adequate supplies of the available vaccines. It would only take a few weeks to provide two doses of the vaccines to health care workers if the supply was adequate.

There must be a lot of political unhappiness about this.

@MissConductUS
We are federal - no centralized records. In fact I went on anti database protests when young (there is an inherent danger in keeping this type of records - see our history).
The fact that every German over 16 has to carry photo ID on his person at all times is due to a British occupational government decision Grin

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 07/03/2021 18:51

@soddingkitten I'm the car hooverer, it's just a handheld goblin

@Frownette hope tonsils are feeling better soon. I prescribe loads of ice cream.

I'm just sticking a wash load on and putting some ribs and chips in the oven,

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2021 18:54

Would it be reasonable to conclude that every piece of housework that does not get done while I am incapacitated is not really neccessary? And therefore ought not to be done at all?

Therainisback · 07/03/2021 19:24

Prok the housework plan sounds very sensibleGrin
I did some gardening today, I am forever amazed at the amount of small stones in my soil. I knelt on a wasp & it stung the top of my foot.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 07/03/2021 19:29

I meant cat 🐱 Hooveer not car

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 07/03/2021 19:29

Prok, totally agree with that household plan too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2021 19:33

@NotanotherboxofFrogs
A 'handheld goblin', that is an interesting mental image ( I have 167 m2 of occasionally swept wooden floor - so no hoovers, goblins or henries)

Sunbird24 · 07/03/2021 20:22

I have clean bedding on the bed (bought a new blue fitted sheet today) and even managed to shave my legs in the shower earlier, so bed is feeling lovely. Hopefully I sleep better tonight than the rest of last week!
I have a new chap starting work tomorrow, technically my boss will be his boss, but I’ll be looking after him as I’m a bit more senior and more experienced (plus many years older 🤦‍♀️)

Frownette · 07/03/2021 22:36

Thank you @NotanotherboxofFrogs, your presciption cure seems difficult to swallow but I'll do my best for Dr Frog

At least it had a good reason-I got stung by a bee once that flew towards me, landed on my wrist and stung me. Totally unprovoked.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2021 09:26

Good morning - I have 'ahabed' my way to the kitchen and bathroom, taken my medication and Duo is proud of me Smile

Spudlet · 08/03/2021 11:05

DS has gone back to school. It was all I could do to get his lunch bag into his hand before he headed in at the trot... he told me he was really excited to be going back. The house is now very quiet and I feel exhausted, probably because I’m relaxing for the first time since before Christmas. I am also exhausted because I ran 8 miles yesterday and then cycled DS to school this morning, and he still isn’t pedalling up the hill... the hill on the way home is steeper than the one up to school so I’m not looking forward to dragging him up it this afternoon after several months off 😬

After I got home I took the trailer bike off and headed to the shop for milk. I’d forgotten the deli is closed on a Monday though so could only get substandard, Mr Kipling cake. Alas.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2021 11:15

@Spudlet - 8 m is 12 km, you'd have to carry me home after that. You are all so sporty and disciplined!

I am following 'back to school' threads - does the wrong type of shoe really disrupt learning to that degree? I wonder....

DH tries to get me to make kısır, but I do not feel up to it.

Champagneforeveryone · 08/03/2021 11:24

I am trying to buy a car. I have money (figuratively) clutched in my clammy hand and am very flexible regarding delivery / collection. I know what I want and have no need to test drive or ask deep probing questions. I am however thwarted "because of Covid"

What the books and films depicting the apocalypse never actually convey, is the interminable amount of time we have to spend waiting patiently before the end of the world finally arrives Hmm

Frownette · 08/03/2021 11:59

So we're schools back, shops opening next month? Restaurants pubs cafes May?

Frownette · 08/03/2021 12:01

Oh yeah dull update: just walked home, awful lot of police cars around here, no sirens going. I can finish my work at home later.

Thank for the hearty chuckle Champagne. We should definitely find some way of capturing for posterity the sheer volume of admin a pandemic generates, even for very basic requirements. And that patience is essential in a pandemic, not just a virtue. (Day 15 and counting for our boiler part.....)

DH knocked a framed picture off the wall last night and smashed the glass. Another damned thing we’ll have to wait for the shops to reopen to address. 😞

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2021 12:21

I am still waiting for my chance to buy a seal ring for the washing machine. As I need to speak to an actual human I have to wait until the plague is done.

We ordered a new car for DH last January as we decided that the kids could share his old 2012 for their needs, and it came in during March, right after lockdown started. The dealership was completely closed for about two weeks so we couldn't pick it up. Then they set up a tent outside with a table and we were able to go, pay for it and sign all of the paperwork. They wouldn't get in the car with us to show us how everything worked, but did direct us to a youtube video another dealership had made that demonstrated the basics. It was quite an odd car buying experience.

It's still really cold here, about -9 this morning, but it's supposed to warm up this week. DH was still feeling a bit poorly this morning from his jab on Saturday, but not poorly enough to stay home for the day.

Sodding, I can't believe you don't have the boiler part two weeks on. Did it have to be made just for you or imported from China or something? Everytime we've needed a furnace part that the HVAC bloke couldn't get locally he got it the next day from the manufacturer.

Spudlet eight miles is very impressive. I'm ordering some heavier hand weights to use with my daily stationary bike workout. I think it's going to be quite a while before I run again.

I was a bit Hmm when I heard that Grey’s Anatomy was going to ‘address the pandemic’ in their next series, because it turns out pandemics are BORING. Even if you work in a hospital. Sad and stressful and scary but jeez, really samey. It’s not really like their typical ‘An experimental space rocket has crashed on a school bus full of children!’ storyline.

There’s a step ladder in the middle of the corridor with a pair of legs standing on the top of it. I assume the rest of them is up in the ceiling.

This made me guffaw out loud.

Prok, your housework plan sounds perfect. Germans over 16 still needing to carry ID cards is such a crazy outdated concept. It was also deemed necessary here in Britain during WWII but was scrapped in 1952.

Well done on your 8 miles Spud and I'm pleased that MiniSpud went in happily.

The DC were pleased to see their friends today. They are now playing in the garden and I'm sat half watching them from the table, and drinking tea.

EggyPegg · 08/03/2021 16:13

@Squirrel26, I'm so behind on Grey's. I used to watch it religiously but the after the 17th 'rocket into a school' storyline, I got a bit fatigued with it. The last I saw, Jackson had wandered off into the fog. I think my ambivalence became apparent when I didn't bother tuning in to see if he turned up.

I do love that Owen has a broad Scottish accent in real life though.
