Have been for a run and helped DH replace 5 fence panels (flexes muscles) DC are off canoeing with DH and then up to the yard. Feeling a bit guilt about how much they were neglected last weekend so making DH make it up to them Grin
I’m going to stay here and tidy and hoover and not look at the dust, I hate dusting

soddingkitten · 06/03/2021 13:43

Belated breakfast update: DH covered DS1’s pancakes with a plate as he is slow to appear. In the 10 minutes before he joined us 🙄 Sodding systematically worked his way around the plate nibbling all the bits that were poking out. DS2 and I didn’t try to stop him. It was too funny and we are absolutely fed up of DS1 turning up late. We did warn him so he could trim his pancakes.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/03/2021 14:13

DH just brought the post up.
I have received a BODEN catalogue (Best of British fashion, they say - is it?)
@soddingkitten - Did I already say that I love your cat?

It's clouding in, here.

MissConductUS · 06/03/2021 14:13

Welcome, @BluebellsareBlue, and thanks for your home decorating, procrastination and snacking news.

Sodding, tiger loaf sounds amazing. Dgirlcat loves pancakes too.

I have reclaimed the corner of my living room that had become the designated homeschool nook! It is now once again home to the log basket and DS’s beanbag. I have also put a little folding table there and set my aloe vera plant on it as she was looking a bit forlorn in the kitchen - hopefully she will get a bit more light in the living room and be a bit happier.

Because I am only an optimist sometimes, I have only moved the homeschool nook into the kitchen. It will serve as a good art spot for DS and means I don’t feel quite so much like I’m tempting fate. If the worst happens and we have to homeschool again, I will leave it in the kitchen and we will have to work in there instead of the living room.

soddingkitten · 06/03/2021 14:19

Prok - we have indulged him to the extent he has almost no table manners. When we eventually return to socialising and having guests we will have to shut him out to keep him off the table.

EggyPegg · 06/03/2021 14:29

That is an excellent Sodding update sodding.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, my Boden catalogue arrived yesterday and my Joules one earlier in the week. Joules sent this one out in a very pretty, but somewhat pointless envelope.

I am impressed with the productivity shown by @HelenaJustina and @Spudlet. My productivity level is set to zero today.

sueelleker · 06/03/2021 15:36

@soddingkitten

I bought a big tiger loaf home from Tescos for lunch, one of the 800g ones. The locusts have passed through the kitchen and there is now less than 1/3 of it left.

(MissC - Tiger loaf is basically the ideal fluffy-pillow sky-high-GI white loaf, which is brushed with sesame oil and salt before baking to give it a characteristic crispy crackled top. It looks more giraffe-textured than stripy tiger patterned. It smells amazing when fresh.)

Sainsbury actually call it giraffe bread now.
Sunbird24 · 06/03/2021 18:54

I’ve made a smoothie with frozen pineapple, avocado and coconut milk and it tastes like a pina colada, it’s ace!

HelenaJustina · 06/03/2021 18:57

I did dust and polish in the end (then followed with hoover). The sunshine seemed to call for it. Need a nice bath now as am decidedly grubby.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/03/2021 20:24

@Sunbird24 - That soundes nice and refreshing!

It is a 12 m distance from my bed to the bathroom and though the shoe is great I need to be careful. The pain expert in hospital told me that pain is not there to be endured and to take my meds, so that's what I am doing in an hour.
I've duolingo-ed, watched lots of youtube videos on sewing, cooking and book binding.

mathanxiety · 07/03/2021 07:13

I made a chicken pot pie from leftover chicken stew with dumplings. DD3 hates peas so I only put peas in one half of it, but then I lost track of which half was poisonous when I was crimping the pastry, so the first slice was an unknown quantity. We sorted it out in the end though.

Earlier in the day I cleaned out the fridge and took out the bin. I love being able to see what I have in the fridge. After taking out the bin I made an Irish tea brack - I soaked sultanas overnight with tea and a splash of whiskey. I had to use sultanas as I had thrown out the container of raisins because they expired in 2018 and had formed themselves into a hockey puck in the bottom of their canister.

I also took DD3 out shopping. She bought a small water filter that was $2 off the usual price, and a pair of the fashionable wide legged, fray-edged, sailor-style trews that all the young people are wearing.

Hoping for a quiet day of doing nothing much tomorrow, plus laundry of course. Maybe some dusting and polishing. The brighter spring light really shows up the dust.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, @Prokupatuscrakedatus

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2021 12:23

Having an extremely quiet day today.
Yesterday I reminded DH that women's day is a holiday in Berlin, so all shops closed. So he went out for an urgent food shop.

Sunbird24 · 07/03/2021 12:56

I’ve got my sheets in the wash and had a bit of a tidy up, now going for a shower before I head for the supermarket

OverweightPidgeon · 07/03/2021 13:04

I’ve just chopped up a celeriac- bloody hard work !

Frownette · 07/03/2021 13:04

You have all made me hungry now but I'm resting up with tonsilitus and too tired to move.

I want fluffy bread and smoothie pina coladas too

Champagne it's weird what you said about the last year really changing things, I got unexpectedly grabbed into a hug this week and felt confused and scuttled off

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/03/2021 13:15

I whats apped DD in her room for a bar of chocolate. DH is in his study typing away, so food might be a long way off.

MissConductUS · 07/03/2021 13:38

Happy Sunday, lovely people of the thread.

I had a nice visit with my mum yesterday, then DS and I went out for lunch at Popeye's (a fast food chain) and did a shop at Whole Foods, the posh supermarket chain Amazon owns. Do you have Whole Foods in the UK?

DH had a bit of an adventure yesterday. He somehow left his mobile phone on the train he took into the city and didn't realize it until right after he got the jab. He finally got it back by asking a police officer to call his number. The conductor on his train had it but he had to wait around for a few hours before he could meet with her to get it, as she was working on another train that came into a different station.

The site he went to is a huge convention center and they're open 24 hours a day, and doing about 12000 jabs a day. They're now giving out the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine in the overnight hours. DH got the Pfizer vaccine, which is what I've gotten. His only side effects so far have been a mild headache and some body aches.

It's a relief to have him started. Now we just have to get the kids sorted, but they'll be much further back in the queue.

We walked home from Mass (3 miles) and the DC had pastries when they got back as the bribe for walking at all, so the roast chicken for lunch will be ready about 3pm at this rate. Done the lunchboxes, need to change the DC beds and clean the kitchen (after making lunch!) feeling smug about my cleaning yesterday as the house is gleaming in the sunshine!

Have planned a one:one walk with my sister next week because we are allowed! She will bring her 2week old son and although I won’t touch him or go too close, I just can’t wait to see her and him.

HelenaJustina · 07/03/2021 13:45

That should be one : one not sure how the Grin got in there!

MissConductUS · 07/03/2021 13:56

Frownette, have you seen a doctor about the tonsilitis? It can be caused by a bacterial infection, in which case your should be on antibiotics.

I just had a Red Admiral decide to sunbathe on the bonnet of my car while I was going through the McDonald’s drive-thru. Drove very slowly to the next window, but he had to go once I’d got my food!

Frownette · 07/03/2021 15:38

MissC thanks, I'll give it a couple of days then go to GP if it hasn't cleared

HildaTablet · 07/03/2021 16:10

We do have Whole Foods here, MissC - I could be wrong but I think they're only in London. The branch I know is a very large one in what used to be a department store called Barkers in Kensington High Street.

It's a lovely place to wander round in and good for treating yourself if you're feeling flush, but eye-wateringly expensive for everyday grocery shopping. Plenty of Kensington residents don't have a problem with that, though (it's a very moneyed area).

That all reminds me that I haven't actually set foot in London for 6 months....!

Nydj · 07/03/2021 16:17

I think there are whole foods outside London - the first one I went to was in the cotswolds. But they are pretty rare in the UK and as Hilda said, everything is crazy expensive.

I had the Astra Zeneca jab yesterday.
