I'm giving up sugar for Lent - anyone in?

tinselandlights · 14/02/2021 21:20

Since Christmas my sugar consumption has been out of control.

I've decided to give up sugar and wheat for Lent, and give the money I would spend on it to the Trussell Trust to keep me on track.

Anyone else in?

I was thinking of doing this anyway. I've never been so ambitious with giving up things before, but think I can make it this time. I will still eat wheat though

Hi

I did this in 2019 and again in 2020. I lost weight and found that I stuck to it more because it was for lent! Its a brilliant idea! And lent ends in spring, just in time for the winter wooly's coming off and the summer wardrobe to come out! I will be starting again on Wednesday. I give up cakes, biscuits chocolate and crisps. I replace them all with nuts and fruit.

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:32

@gospelsinger, me too. I couldn't give up pasta, bread and pasta too! I'd lose the will to live!

Archersandlemonade · 14/02/2021 21:33

Do you
Mean like all
Sugar? Or just sweet things? Because hasn’t most stuff got sugar in it? I would
Like to try

Archersandlemonade · 14/02/2021 21:34

Like fruit - so
Much sugar

NovemberR · 14/02/2021 21:35

I'd like to. My sugar consumption is ridiculous at the moment, mostly out of boredom and because there is nothing else to do.

I feel bloated and terrible.

smileyplant · 14/02/2021 21:36

I'm in! I did this in 2018 and was shocked how much better I felt! Hopefully it will help me lose some of the lockdown pounds Blush

floppybit · 14/02/2021 21:36

I will join you. Sorry to be thick but when does lent start and end?

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:37

Yeah fruit has sugar in too! But it worked for me. I suppose it's just giving up the bad sugar? It worked for me either way.

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:38

Starts on Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday! You're not thick x

Archersandlemonade · 14/02/2021 21:38

I’m up for giving up the obvious!!! I sometimes have 8 cups of tea a day - with two sugars in each Blush

Archersandlemonade · 14/02/2021 21:39

@4LeafClover21. Did you give up sugar too?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/02/2021 21:40

What is your definition of sugar?!

Those weird energy balls with dates - yes or no?

Or just no cakes and biscuits?

Anyway yes I’m also in and could do with some moral support!

WundaWumman · 14/02/2021 21:42

Me me me! Like the PPs, I've done it before and it was great as it a)helped me lose weight and get down to the lowest I've been in 20 years, and b) I lost my sweet tooth (for a while at least!)

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:42

@Archersandlemonade I gave up crisp, cake, choc, biscuits and ice cream in 2019.
In 2020 I gave them up again but I started to keep in mind how much sugar was in things like tomato sauce, the things that add up. I really noticed a difference.

Nowmum43 · 14/02/2021 21:43

I'm going to give up sweet treats. I'm eating so much at the minute.
With lent you can 'relent' on a Sunday or so I was told. That way the 40 days/nights takes you to Easter Sunday or you do it all the way through to Palm Sunday which is the week before.
I usually have the Sunday off as find it easier to have it to look forward to.

Wearethetwirl · 14/02/2021 21:45

I'd love to join but apart from the obvious (cakes, biccies, chocs etc) is there any other foods you have to avoid for hidden sugars?

sweetheartyparty · 14/02/2021 21:47

Yes I'd like to join. For me, anything with processed sugar .
I once did the whole30 and stopped eating dairy, beans, sugar, seed oil and all grains for 30 days. I had very good results but it was unsustainable.

Scotstar91 · 14/02/2021 21:47

Do I have to give up wine? Sad

Lockdownbear · 14/02/2021 21:47

Those who lost weight doing it, how much did you loose?
It might be the thing that gets my weight loss started.

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:48

Give up what you can manage. There is sugar hidden in all sorts of foods so I wouldn't try to completely remove it. I wouldn't even want to think what you'd be left to eat lol x
fluffy71 · 14/02/2021 21:49

Yes I’m in thought about doing this today. Since Christmas sugar consumption out of control

WineInTheWillows · 14/02/2021 21:51

Ohh, it's so tough because my birthday falls in Lent! Anyone else have that issue?

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 14/02/2021 21:51

I'll join. I'm snacking on waaaay too much crap right now.

4LeafClover21 · 14/02/2021 21:53
