I'm not sure why, find it calming..are there any things you like to do which seem a bit boring but you strangely enjoy? Or is it just me...

I totally get that. I love looking at a globe and at maps. It's quite calming unless your on Google maps and you lose your place Smile

Orangeblossom1977 · 12/02/2021 17:26

Maybe it is also because we can't travel much right now so can imagine trips instead.

We all do, I think. I don't live in the uk but I still like a good glimmer of the OS from the cotswolds.

DinosApple · 12/02/2021 17:27

I love maps too. Very relaxing. I enjoy comparing a first edition ordinance survey to a modern one. Or looking at the place names on a modern map. I studied landscape archaeology though so my really interesting is very definitely lots of other people's boring Grin.

There are a lot of map nerds out there..
I use maps a lot with my work and rather enjoy the rare chance to go to the archives and look at some old ones.
My DH loves a map too. Got given a fun one at Christmas that shows specific things in the UK.

thistimelastweek · 12/02/2021 17:31

@Beamur please can you point me one the direction of that?
( See what I did there?). My husband wo u love one of those.

FossilisedFanny · 12/02/2021 17:33

Ooh I love a map and A-Z’s.
Years ago , my then partner and I got into bed , he got his book out to read and I got my A-Z out, he did a double take when he saw it and said he always knew I was weird Grin

MechantGourmet · 12/02/2021 17:34

I used to work in a map collection- it was wonderful.

bellagogosdead · 12/02/2021 17:34

Oh yes! Especially old ones, my amazon wish list is full of them.
When we can go out again I am itching to go to the maritime museum and just lose myself in the giant map of 19th century London.
Followed by a visit to the Golden chippy!

Covidcorvid · 12/02/2021 17:35

Me too, I love looking at bing maps online in OS view.

Orangeblossom1977 · 12/02/2021 17:35

I studied environmental science years back so maybe that is linked as well. Glad to hear others share this, DH thinks it is geeky Confused

Do you all know about the National Library of Scotland?

bellagogosdead · 12/02/2021 17:42

And New York Public Library

TonTonMacoute · 12/02/2021 17:42

I love maps too!

One of my absolute favourites is a map of the different soils in the U.K. It is a thing of absolute beauty.

IAmongstTheWorld · 12/02/2021 17:43

I love Maps, and I love the map quiz books too.

Have you read the map that changed the world?

eddiemairswife · 12/02/2021 17:44

I've loved maps since I was a child. My father had a very thick atlas and I would spend hours reading it when I finished my library books. I've got some old maps of my local area, and it is interesting to see the changes that have taken place over the years.

Makinglists · 12/02/2021 17:44

Me too!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 12/02/2021 17:47

I love maps, paper ones in particular. My AA road map of Europe is a favourite. I hate satnav.

IsabelleSE19 · 12/02/2021 17:47

As we speak I am drinking tea out of a mug with an OS map of a section of Hadrian's Wall on it. I also have the OS map of Roman Britain. Still have a proper map book in the car and I'm always poring over it while navigating (when DH is driving of course!). I love maps!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 12/02/2021 17:48

I have a collection of old maps. It’s amazing to see the development of the railways and cities.

elQuintoConyo · 12/02/2021 17:48

I often sit and flip through my A5 sized A-Z of London Grin I've never lived there, haven't visited for ten years, but I feel a strange pull to it. I suppose being the capital and it appears in do much fiction, of course, and all the history.

I have a few old maps on the wall. A company called chelseachelsea print and old maps, got one for my dad for Xmas of the village and surroundings where he grew up, he was really touched.

LOVE MAPS!

TalskiddyTreacleMiner · 12/02/2021 17:52

Me too. I'm a bit of a history nerd so this website is a thing of beauty to me

RogueV · 12/02/2021 17:53

I love maps

Bloodybridget · 12/02/2021 17:54

Love maps too. I have a 1913 street atlas of London, I got it for 20p in a car boot sale. Then I paid a fortune to have it rebound! Also enjoy a map jigsaw, historic or modern.

TheNationsFavourite · 12/02/2021 17:54

I like those sites where you can overlay an old ordnance survey map over a current one and see all the changes. Can spend hours lost in my local area, looking at the old sawmill site etc.
