@ISaySteadyOn

What does CEV stand for? My guess is Critical, Elderly, Vulnerable?
I think it's Clinically Extremely Vulnerable.
@LivinLaVidaLoki where do you find the info on the hospital numbers?
One of our local trusts does an update every week.

It's going mad over there with most of the lockdown zealots pleading for no school return on 8th March. Is our glorious leader going to start trying to brainwash people with the "schools are safe" message, from Monday? (I myself think the schools should be back - but if Boris tries the brainwashing approach, people won't believe it.) Will he start talking of fines for non-attendance, and the police forcibly dragging children to school? After all, a police state is exactly what the lockdown zealots want. Smile

wanderings · 19/02/2021 16:58

He might even make some oxymoronic statement such as "your children's education is important", which cries out for a follow-up of "yes, so important that we chose to completely decimate your children's education".

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/02/2021 17:00

I know @wanderings its batshit.

Am I being thick though or are they missing the point that the govt strategy isn't to keep people safe, it's to prevent pressure on the NHS. Now that those most likely to put pressure on the NHS are vaccinated then their argument for keeping schools closed, bubbles and rotas becomes completely moot?

Gratefulrunner · 19/02/2021 17:01

@MercyBooth thanks for linking to that article, sadly that is my local area. Although I’m sure it’ll be happening in other areas. Feels totally wrong that the people like porters and cleaners are so important and getting screwed over like this :(

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 19/02/2021 17:15

There's also a thread where some are discussing how they enjoy lockdown.

I am not going to look at the schools thread. My head might explode.

bakingcupcakes · 19/02/2021 17:19

I've pretty much given up with the lockdown business. We've been out every day this week doing stuff outside and meeting friends. It's actually been a really good half term and I'm quite sad we're back next week. However, my waistline will thank me as I've eaten far more than usual.

I'm starting to feel that it doesn't matter what anyone does. You can follow the rules all you like but the goalposts will constantly shift anyway.

Ohnomoreno · 19/02/2021 17:54

The other thread is going more and more crazy. Latest Was someone saying hospitals were full of teachers. Hmm just fact free hysteria. I don't know a single teacher who isn't desperate to get their students back.

All my teacher friends want to be back at school. Most didn't want the schools closed in the first place. (Ex teacher so I know lots!)
TooManyPlatesInMotion · 19/02/2021 18:06

The unions were calling for a slow and phased return to classrooms today so I think the thread was timed to coincide with that tbh. I have discovered the hard way not to go near the schools threads. Some of the posters are seriously vitriolic.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/02/2021 18:10

LivinLaVidaLoki
Just been over there again and someone made the statement that "icus will be full of unvaccinated teachers and parents soon"
How the fuck have they worked that one out? You are at no more risk now than you have been previously.....
I don't get it.
Me neither. Glad it's not just me.
I gave up reading after that bit. No point wasting more time.

Cleaners and porters infected with Covid at London NHS trust denied full sick pay during winter wave
Exclusive: Supply staff at West Herts Trust reportedly pressured to carry on working even when feared to be infected with Covid-19
Surprise surprise, cleaners & porters there are employed by a company that provides services to the NHS so I suspect they don't get the same sick pay & employment protection as staff on proper NHS contracts.

I see Hancock's in trouble for giving contracts to his mates during the pandemic. I'm sure a clever lawyer friend will get him off the hook though.

Iheartmysmart · 19/02/2021 18:33

I’ve just ventured onto the schools thread, not because DS is at school any more I just like to see how batshit certain posters are. It’s not got any better has it!

Do you think Rishi will extend furlough again? That scares me into thinking Boris will keep most of the restrictions in place for quite a while still. I’m so fucking lonely on my own I’m not sure how much longer I can take this for.

Mrsfrumble · 19/02/2021 18:36

I notice that even on the thread about the Guardian article, there was lots of “but that was the old strain! The new strain might be waaaay more infectious outside!” You’d think people would be glad to have their paranoia proved wrong Confused

DH has been summoned for his vaccination next week. We’re a bit baffled as to why; he’s only 44, a healthy weight and no pre-existing conditions. He had cancer 10 years ago, but had his last dose of chemo in Feb 2011 and has been all clear since. Still, the surgery were adamant he was on the list and he’s not saying no, obviously! I did warn him they may have his height recorded as 6.1 cm instead of 6’ 1”...

Ohnomoreno · 19/02/2021 18:44

@Iheartmysmart hang in there!! I'm enjoying rewatching the matrix and hoping this is a simulation. Maybe there's a test at the end? Maybe we pass and go to some sunlit uplands away from the schools thread Grin

TheOrchidKiller · 19/02/2021 18:49

In which case, we could argue like this for years, until a metereorite smashes into the Earth & wipes out the frequently mutated virus. Perhaps it will be safe to come outside & eat crisps on a bench with one other person by then? (Everything might be burnt to cinders in a flaming fireball & there might be zombies trying to eat you but they're nothing to worry about).

@Mrsfrumble I bet it'll be your DH's old cancer & chemo that's got him the vaccine.

I did laugh at that 6.1cm man. I think his BMI was something like 28,000!

Iheartmysmart · 19/02/2021 18:50

Ha! @Ohnomoreno I have started to wonder if I’m in The Truman Show by accident!

The schools thread is mad. I went to quite a rough primary school and remember one of our teachers coming back to work the day after he was speared through the foot by a pupil throwing spiked railings off the roof. He would have been horrified at some of the comments on that thread!

TheOrchidKiller · 19/02/2021 18:52

That was your primary school, Iheart? Bloody hell, what was it like at your secondary school?! Grin

Ohnomoreno · 19/02/2021 18:58

@Iheartmysmart haha! Sounds like the jokers at my school although to be fair they were way worse at secondary. I'm getting drunk instead and going to find more Sci fi to watch.

Iheartmysmart · 19/02/2021 18:59

Oh yes! It was very rough. The police were there pretty much every day. The lunch time food fights were legendary. Didn’t know mashed potatoes could make so much mess.

As a contrast I went to an all girls grammar school for my first couple of years at secondary school. That was very sedate and quite boring if I’m honest.

TheOrchidKiller · 19/02/2021 19:06

Sounds like a scene from Bugsy Malone with all that mashed spud.

Iheartmysmart · 19/02/2021 19:12

The food was transported in and was absolutely vile. Think the 70s with spam fritters and powdered mash potato. To be fair throwing it around was the kindest thing. The puddings were great though, strangely they always survived.

thenightsky · 19/02/2021 19:24

I used to love Spam fritters. All that delicious greasiness.

Never had one....maybe should give it a try. One of my guilty pleasures is spam on worthless white bread with dollops of Branston pickle.....
