What happens if the Queen dies during lockdown, for her funeral??

My non-Brit partner just asked me what they'd do about her funeral and I don't know. What would happen? Put her on ice til later?

She died in 2007 . It's a robot all along .

Theunamedcat · 09/02/2021 17:55

I should imagine they would have a quiet funeral just family and film it for the masses

Motheroftwofeline · 09/02/2021 17:56

Bit morbid

Hailtomyteeth · 09/02/2021 17:57

They'll put her on ice till they can see it done right? Or take ghe opportunity to save money and do it quietly.

Hailtomyteeth · 09/02/2021 17:58

The
Not ghe

Alonelonelyloner · 09/02/2021 17:59

Would a quiet one @Theunamedcat appease the masses you think? I imagine people would be up in arms.

Surely a quiet ceremony now with a celebration later.

CoffeeRunner · 09/02/2021 18:00

I’ve wondered this, but more with regard to Philip.

I think they would either do as above - family only but filmed for TV - or invite the usual guests & go to a huge amount of expense and trouble to have everyone spaced as well as possible.

Let’s hope there’s no need to find out.

CoronaIsWatching · 09/02/2021 18:00

I think the country would go doolally if the Queen dies during lockdown.

AgeLikeWine · 09/02/2021 18:00

The taxpayer would save a shitload of dosh, which would be a very good thing.

kissmelittleass · 09/02/2021 18:01

No idea but it's a bit negative in this shot time

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 18:03

It probably gave the people who've been planning it for decades, something new to consider.
Freshen it up a bit.

VienneseWhirligig · 09/02/2021 18:03

DS and I have discussed this recently. He thinks there will be a funeral televised. I think there would be total blackout in the media until after lockdown is lifted, and then trains would be cancelled to reduce footfall around the country, then it will be revealed that she has died and Boris will try to guilt trip people into not going to the capital for the funeral. No lying in state.

Scbchl · 09/02/2021 18:05

Maybe they just wont announce if she or phillip die in lockdown. For public safety to prevent crowds. How would we know either way.

BlueTimes · 09/02/2021 18:06

I would assume it would probably still be a state procession but without crowds allowed to gather and social distancing enforced.

At present I think only 30 people could attend under covid rules. The Royal Family isn’t, and can’t be seen to be, above the law, so they would need to adhere to those rules.

Security numbers alone means probably none of the Royal Family could physically attend. It would definitely be filmed, which is also probably a film crew over 30 in itself.

SquatBetty · 09/02/2021 18:06

@Motheroftwofeline

Bit morbid
Not really, she's 95 this year. Realistically, she could go any minute.
Nohomemadecandles · 09/02/2021 18:08

Bit tasteless. Hmm

FelicityPike · 09/02/2021 18:08

I think we’d go into mourning for the 12 days as planned but with no laying in State and a very small private funeral within regulations with a service of remembrance once we’re back to “normal”.

AuntieMarys · 09/02/2021 18:08

I've thought about this.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/02/2021 18:10

This! But it looks like she's got her mother's genes. Her Dad died young, but was a heavy smoker, and she is either a lifelong non-smoker or gave up a long, long time ago.

I note that the plan is updated 'several times a year', so I imagine they've already considered what to do in the current circumstances.

goingtotown · 09/02/2021 18:10

There’s enough doom & gloom without this post.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 18:11

Its so bleak at the moment that a period of mourning would be no different! Apart from maybe the football and soaps would be cancelled?
And cheery music banned.

TerrifiedandWorried · 09/02/2021 18:12

We will be told to stand on our doorsteps and clap.

EttaKett · 09/02/2021 18:13

laying in state 🐓

I hope that if the Queen dies during Lockdown, the public pressure to end Lockdown to mark the event would force the government to do so.

Sadly, I think I'm wrong, though.
