What happens if the Queen dies during lockdown, for her funeral??

My non-Brit partner just asked me what they'd do about her funeral and I don't know. What would happen? Put her on ice til later?

OP posts:

alwayshappensonnye it was also referred to in this thread, wiki page was linked.
Do you not read the actual thread either?

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 19:27

I guess it would be a bit like the Us inauguration- scaled down, outside, coatsnand masks on.

I reckon the cannon would still get an outing, butnthere would be fewer people in the church/cathedral.

And yes, we would be encouraged to stand on our doorsteps and clap rather then go to the motorway and chuck flowers at the hearse.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/02/2021 19:29

@fantasmasgoria1

I doubt the country would be up in arms if the queen didn't have a state funeral. Its an abject waste of money in any case. They should have private funerals, weddings and everything else oh and pay for it themselves.
I'd like to see the costings here. The BBC and ITV must make an absolute fortune from selling the broadcast rights to events like these to overseas broadcasters. Tourism up too (in normal times)?

Not to mention strengthening our diplomatic links with other countries whose representatives attend.

One small mercy: the US would not be represented by ***. Can you imagine how hard he would have worked to make it all about him?

islockdownoveryet · 09/02/2021 19:30

I suspect it’d be Phillip first , sorry Phil .

Desmondo2016 · 09/02/2021 19:30

@TerrifiedandWorried

We will be told to stand on our doorsteps and clap.
🤣🤣🤣

@TheSpottedZebra, reading the whole thread is rare. Did you see the 'I throw away most of the chicken' thread?

Nearly 700 posts and almost all of them went like this:

'Disgraceful! A chicken died for you and you've just thrown most of its corpse in your bin'
'Risotto, sandwiches, stock, soup, curry, pie - the possibilities are endless'
'Just Google for ideas!'
'The leftovers are the best bit!'
'How do you have any leftovers? We eat every last scrap'

Over and over again. Extraordinary.

Heyahun · 09/02/2021 19:48

Gawd couldn’t care less what they do tbh - don’t know the woman.

NotReallyTheVicar · 09/02/2021 19:55

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo

Surely a quiet ceremony now with a celebration later.
Celebration😙
Epifany · 09/02/2021 19:59

I imagine all contingency plans are firmly in place right now. Before covid hit, the Queen's funeral will have been organised down to the most minute detail. No doubt about it the revised plan will be there just in case the lady does pass away while the world is still in some kind of lockdown or tough restrictions. It will hardly be a massive shock which no one is prepared for. After all she may look and seem very fit and healthy for her age but at 95 she is in God's waiting room. As for Philip, probably the same secret plans locked away until the day he is no more.

Thinking about this now, when Princess Diana died it was so sudden and she was so young so possibly no blue print for her funeral at that time. Defo one for Charles though! He is an awld fella to be sure.

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 09/02/2021 20:00

They’ll have already planned some kind of Covid-friendly funeral and will have it safely locked in a drawer along with the original plan, just in case. I’ll be sad though because we’ll miss out on all the glorious rituals and traditions.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 20:05

A curtain. Imagine that wafting around, annoying you all day.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/02/2021 20:05

And that, people, was posted on the wrong thread!

chocolateorangeinhaler · 09/02/2021 20:18

Oh for goodness sake all those who are saying this is morbid and bad taste, the woman is in her 90s. Death is more likely to happen at that age for anyone.
How do you know Philip hasn't already gone, nobody has seen him for months.

CoronaIsWatching · 09/02/2021 20:23

Philip already looks like he died 5 years ago

Biscoffaddict · 09/02/2021 20:25

Funny thing is I’d wondered this as well OP.

This is a good article. Don’t forget that it is also about the accession.

jerriblank · 09/02/2021 20:52

@TheSpottedZebra

Oh god, the clapping Shock

🤣🤣🤣

LowlandLucky · 09/02/2021 21:22

GhoulWithADraonTattoo not sure the country would be celebrating

peak2021 · 09/02/2021 22:18

We have plans at work for what we would do when Prince Philip dies, and the same for the Queen. Given the main office locations.

Singinginshower · 09/02/2021 22:26

Surely it would be a Zoom occasion?

DameJackieWeaver · 09/02/2021 22:59

@Singinginshower

Surely it would be a Zoom occasion?
Nah - to many jokers asking if the queen’s on mute.
trappedsincesundaymorn · 09/02/2021 23:36

Her funeral should be conducted within the rules, like everybody else has had to do. Some of us more than once.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 10/02/2021 01:53

@bluetimes

"The Royal Family isn’t, and can’t be seen to be, above the law."

No, but the monarch is. Thus, for example, Her Majesty's cars don't have registration plates.

Chocolateraincloud3 · 10/02/2021 04:48

I was thinking this earlier. Well, actually hoping she doesn’t die as we are supposed to get 10 days of mourning and everything will be closed- no school/work. Which will be pointless during a pandemic.

HeronLanyon · 10/02/2021 05:15

As bizarre as it seems I too have fleetingly wondered this! Attended my first online funeral recently.
On a light note
If we have a zoom/teams National state funeral can I suggest Jackie Weaver controls the masses and waiting room etc ?
