If you were 44 and found out you were pregnant?

Would you have it?

I’m not asking for advice for myself. Just interested in whether you personally would go ahead with a surprise pregnancy at such an advanced age.

OP posts:
Angel2702 · 05/02/2021 21:30

No I don’t think I would. The risks would be to much for me, I already have two disabled children so it wouldn’t be fair to take that chance. Plus at 44 my children would be 20, 18 and 16.

Dilliontrollhair · 05/02/2021 21:31

No def not at 44! Once I had done all of that, I wasnt going back over it. I think people who have grown up kids then have a baby are nuts

Wafflewife · 05/02/2021 21:31

Yes I'd be surprised and a bit scared but happy.

The tone of this question is a bit odd tbh. You do you, OP.

I had my last d. At 43.2..
Ttc when I was 44.2.
Had 3 chemical pregnancies amd a mmc at 8 weeks a week before I was 45....stopped ttc then.
Ds was truly a bonus baby.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 05/02/2021 21:31

I was 38 when I had my DS.

I was knackered much of the time but yes, I think I would.

LynetteScavo · 05/02/2021 21:31

If I didn't have a full house and a full car then yes, definitely. I felt perfectly fit and able at 44 to have another baby.

CaptainSpirit · 05/02/2021 21:33

I gave birth to my children when I was 21 and 24 (I've just turned 25 and am in the early stages of pregnancy again) - I could potentially be a grandmother by the time I'm 44 so the idea of being pregnant then is quite strange to me!

I think if I'd had my children later then I'd possibly be okay with it.

Ari5totle · 05/02/2021 21:34

This happened to me. I did not proceed.
I've given it very little thought tbh.
I know that if I'd been in my 30's I probably would have felt indecision more but it was all so clear to me.

Catlover77 · 05/02/2021 21:34

NO

Kljnmw3459 · 05/02/2021 21:34

I really don't know. Maybe I would.

DinosaurDiana · 05/02/2021 21:34

Yep.

C152 · 05/02/2021 21:35

No

HenriettaHeffalump · 05/02/2021 21:36

I probably wouldnt choose to conceive at that age, but if I found myself in that position, I'd go ahead with it. Hard to say for sure and I'm only 37, so maybe I'll feel differently at that age.

gluteustothemaximus · 05/02/2021 21:36

Worst nightmare situation for me as 3 children already and very tough pregnancies.

So I definitely don't want to be pregnant again.

However. I don't think I could terminate. I'd be devastated either way, and then work out due dates and start falling in love with the little bugger.

Sorry if that doesn't help. Would be really hard though.

DH would back either way.

Sobloodyexhausted · 05/02/2021 21:36

Just to add that for me having a baby at any age is tiring but I’m no more tired with my third than with my first who I had on my mid 30’s. To be honest getting used to having my sleep interrupted by my first born was the hardiest as I’d never slept to someone else’s schedule before - now that seems normal! 😂

FlyingFaster · 05/02/2021 21:37

Yes I would. But I wouldn't judge anybody elses decision.

MargaretThursday · 05/02/2021 21:37

I'm 44, and yes I would. My youngest is 13yo, and it would be a huge disruption to our family, but ultimately I think I'd always wonder what they'd have been like etc.

frugalkitty · 05/02/2021 21:38

I would have done if it had happened by accident, I wouldn't have chosen another at that age (have three already) but oh my goodness, the thought of going back and doing all the toddler groups and school runs again......no thanks!

iljatdip · 05/02/2021 21:38

I'm 44.
If I became pregnant I would keep the baby.
I've not had a child and I know it would be extremely difficult but I would kind of feel that if I did become pregnant against the odds then maybe that was what fate had in store for me.

tillyandmilly · 05/02/2021 21:38

if you are healthy then why not? i know of one woman who had a child at 42 - she was very fit though!

MrsSimonBasset · 05/02/2021 21:39

The other thing to consider is bringing up teenager in your late 50s or early 60s. Why would you voluntarily put yourself through that when you’re probably in your menopausal years.

Tuscadero · 05/02/2021 21:39

I worked with a woman once who had a baby at 45/46 I think. She already had a 25 year old son. Bit of a shock for her.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 05/02/2021 21:39

My mother did. I went ahead with an oops at 38. I think I would, but if I was aware of the possibility I’d try a morning after pill first.

There are decimate disadvantages, but I’d love and cherish a child at any age.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 05/02/2021 21:39

Definite!

theDudesmummy · 05/02/2021 21:40

I had my one baby at nearly 46. After multiple miscarriages. A scary pregnancy but delighted.
