What TV programmes scared you as a kid?

Just as the title asks, what TV programmes scared you as a kid? I'll get the ball rolling. I'm an 80s child and I hated Doctor who. The music was terrifying and I had to leave the room. I also hated he-man. Especially when he shouts 'I have the power' in the opening credits. Bag puss also frightened me. A very large pink cat was unnatural!

Agree with mr noseybonk and Tottie-I went down a rabbit hole with that a few years ago, it made me nostalgic in a creepy way of that’s possible! Also came to say Storybox, namely the theme tune. Nothing really happens but the music is so creepy and when it hits a duff note...shudder

kikisparks · 02/02/2021 15:13

The wolf from Never Ending Story
Animals of Farthing Wood
An episode of Looney Tunes where tweety was a monster (Jekyll and Hyde themed)
The Last Unicorn

LadyPoison · 02/02/2021 16:14

The Changes scared me too and a lot of Dr Who was watched from behind a cushion.

endoflevelbaddy · 02/02/2021 16:22

Fraggle Rock. No idea why but the theme tune scared the shit out of me. So of course my teenage (at the time) Aunts bought it on LP for their own entertainment when babysitting me 😂

Gowherewindandfiremeettogether · 02/02/2021 16:30

The Ghost Hunter (cbbc) when I was about 8 or so! The opening credits used to freak me out!

BorderlineHappy · 02/02/2021 16:36

Not a kids program but I can't think of the name.
Basically eerie musi,a shadow walks in and sits on a chair.
I think it's the late 70s.
That used to give me nightmares.

Boboparadise · 02/02/2021 16:37

@Imissthegym

Tottie terrified me. I can remember it vividly now. Plus the wheelers from return to oz.
The whole Return to Oz movie...good old princess Mombie....what a film

Care Bears, there used to be a nasty man in the wardrobe 😳

hollyandkit · 02/02/2021 16:50

Agree with Bagpuss, I think it was because everything seemed so old and mouldy. The frog on the shelf was creepy but the worst episode was about a toy elephant that had lost his ears - scared me senseless and I used to dead it would be that episode every time it came on! The mice sang "because he didn't have a pair of ears" - kill it, kill it with FIRE!!

TheVolturi · 02/02/2021 16:54

Worzel Gummidge!

A scary entry from the ITV schools archive:

And the terrifying theme from BBC's 'Near and Far'

Mombie · 02/02/2021 17:12

All films but:
The scene in The Return to Oz with Princess Mombie and the heads. When they all start howling ‘Dorothy GaaaaaailllShock obviously left a lasting impression on me (see username).
The creepy grandmother and the girl in the picture in The Witches.
The bit where the boys turn into donkeys in Pinocchio.
The drunk Dumbo scene in Dumbo.
The strangeness in ‘Round the Twist’.

LadyMonicaBOOddingham · 02/02/2021 17:16

Noseybonk still gives me the creeps...

peaceanddove · 02/02/2021 17:19

That 70s, public safety film documenting all the gory ways children could die on a farm. Watching the boy slowly drown in the slurry pit was particularly horrifying. WTF were they thinking?

30not13 · 02/02/2021 17:25

(All heard wafting up the stairs late at night)
Themes from

News at Ten
Dr. Who
World in Action

Grotbags she frightened the life out of me

33goingon64 · 02/02/2021 17:27

There was a BBC schools drama called the Boy from Space, just have been the mid 1980s when I was around 7. It bloody terrified me and gave me nightmares for literally years. There was a pale faced man and he walked like a robot with staring eyes and he was after 2 kids. There's a scene in a quarry with a car and it was just the most ridiculously frightening thing. I shudder now just remembering it.

dannydyerismydad · 02/02/2021 17:32

Scooby Doo. Loved it, but refused to watch it alone. Heaven knows why. It was always some sad bloke in a mask.

And the dwarves from Snow White. The minute they started whistling I screamed and hid.

33goingon64 · 02/02/2021 17:33

Sorry just seen it's already been mentioned a few times! Glad I'm not the only one traumatised by it.

timegoesbysoslowly · 02/02/2021 17:36

Zebedee from Magic Roundabout, hid behind sofa dreading him popping up
