Here's mine. Not weird but certainly wonderful. The panelled room is my fave.
Not weird or wonderful, but this is my ideal house and sadly we aren’t in a position at the moment to sell ours. I’m hoping it will still be on the market in a year’s time, but very much doubt it!

If anyone looking owns it then you can hold it for me, right?!

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/98784821#/
I totally agree, @Needallthesleep. I like this one and would feel comfortable here. The tiles in the kitchen are gorgeous and next time I do mine I will be sourcing tiles like these, for sure.

Apparently Greg Davies of MN lusty dream fame is a neighbour...

Oh I love this one! A former bacon factory, too Grin. It looks nothing from the outside but inside, mmmm.

Wow, this one dates from 1592. What an amazing restoration. Thanks for posting. Says no longer on market, so hopefully has been bought by someone who will continue to preserve its charm.

I love this house and its stately home vibe! It comes with the furniture too.

TH22 · 02/02/2021 11:05

@ketosavedmylife

This one is stuffed with character too. If you watch the video, right at the beginning when the camera pans across the road you might spot an orange building. This was featured in the film The Little Vampire, the main family's home.
Oh I loved that film!

This is what I'll be buying when I win £100m on the euro millions

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-64022695.html

It's about £12m

Ariela · 02/02/2021 11:09

Always hankered after a Huf Haus (but never got the budget)

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/84567241#/

There's a new shop/coffee shop opened in Sonning and The French Horn has a takeaway van in it's car park over the river so could just about live there. However you cannot cross the river right now - it's burst its banks and flooded.

Love this

@tobee

The trouble with all these posh gaffs with their home cinemas and lush seating is I'd be off to kip before the titles finished rolling!
I'd have permanently puckered lips from all the popcorn.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find all these big elegant houses actually horrible? I like lots of different looks, modern, old, cosy, minimalist, but I am not drawn to most of these!

Sorry, maybe a bit harsh, but 90% of them I would hate to live in. Soulless, impersonal, old fashioned uptight furnishings (look like they are trying to be Buck House). Or modern empty, souless, acres of cold tiled floor.

Maybe it is because there are no personal possessions. Maybe because the rooms are huge, but as I imagine trying to live in them, I can't imagine cooking in the kitchen, laughing with friends round the table or curling up on the sofa.

The ones I like, are usually because they are different, quirky, or good views or even something as simple as there is a bookcase full of books!

steppemum · 02/02/2021 12:56

The Ghost House is the worst.

Really awful. And did you notice that there is a kitchn/dining/living room which has just 2 tiny armchairs in? So no actual living room/comfy furniture in it?

steppemum · 02/02/2021 12:59

I would love the lighthouse though.
redecorate, but the views....

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 02/02/2021 13:14

This one just sold near me - so beautiful, it looks like something from Bridgerton! I don't really like what they've done with the decor but it would be easy enough to change. And the gardens are superb.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 02/02/2021 13:18

@steppemum I totally agree - really hate those modern shiny interiors that all new build mansions and renovations seem to have. I used to work for a lot of nouveau people around Kensington & Chelsea and their houses were all the same inside, very soulless.

(love the username BTW, any steppes in particular?)

Rather "modest" in comparison to some of the others are on here but I cycle past this house sometimes and think it would be a lovely place to live

steppemum · 02/02/2021 13:56

Now, you said find something near you, so I have just been trawling the sites lokkign for interesting properties in my neck of the woods
(as an aside, very shocked that a large farmhouse roudn here comfprtably goes for 1.5 million Confused

but I cam across this

www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/55229063?search_identifier=7d23ccbeec8a455a4def642fa12ba4f9

now that is an interesting development opportunity.

I'd love to buy it, live in a cottage and just keep the church. Just because well, of an evening, go and sit in it and enjoy the space, vaulted ceilings, the peace.

@tabulahrasa

This is weird not wonderful, it’s a pub... like in the middle of nowhere - as in, it’s not walking distance to anywhere, it’s basically in fields and it isn’t a nice country type pub either.

Also, see all those cars in the car park - they’re always there and the lights are always on too, including the sign.

I keep trying to work out if people are living in it (there are no bedrooms) or if it’s done sort of speakeasy type thing, lol

I have passed this a few times and it really freaks me out. A friend told me it used to be a big biker bar. I'm sure there is something seriously dodgy going on there.
tabulahrasa · 02/02/2021 14:22

“A friend told me it used to be a big biker bar.“

Ooh, I’ve not heard that one, my DP says it used to be where the police drank when he was young...

I’ve been passing it a fair bit because of road closures and there’s always at least 5 cars parked there... sometimes more, but even really late at night there’s at least 5.

What are they all there for? Lol

purrswhileheeats · 02/02/2021 14:33

I spotted this beauty recently:

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/88641829

The interior is a bit of a shock but makes sense when you read the blurb.

IMO it would be a perfect venue for the MN party - plenty of parking and its very own gin bar Grin
