My fucking neighbours

We have just finished a kitchen extension. 6 month build with all the attendant stresses. Older neighbours (late 60s) next door have for the hump because we raised the floor meaning that now they can see into our kitchen. We can’t see into their house at all. They’ve been on at us throughout the build to have the window frosted over, I’ve said no, I’m putting in plain glass and if needs be I’ll put some film over it.
Build finished 5 mins ago, I’ve been up to my ears in fucking homeschooling and working and life and all the bullshit and she sends her husband over to shout at us because there’s no film on the window and ‘I don’t want to see you in your kitchen, it’s like a shop window’. Said window is 135 x 50cm. Also, it’s facing onto their garden which is about 20 metres from the window. So it’s not in their face. I don’t necessarily think they’re wrong, if it’s pissing them off it’s pissing them off and ITS ON MY FUCKING LIST but just FUCK OFF YOU CUNTS WHY DOES IT MATTER??
Many thanks, I feel better now.

@CindersCatsSister your a better person than me I would tell them no they should be grateful you’ve offered a solution

Saz12 · 31/01/2021 22:09

After living next door to a building project that went on for 6 months, during lockdown, they probably have lost their marbles.

CindersCatsSister · 31/01/2021 22:09

I asked them to send me photos of what they can see from their house as I just couldn’t understand what the fuck they were bleating about...and they haven’t. Wonder why?
She seems a bit unhinged. She said ‘it’s so intrusive! It’s not so bad in the day but at night it’s terrible!’ She was so fucked off about it.
I wanted to say well draw the fucking curtains then??? Then the husband said he was going to ‘take matters into my own hands’ and I gave up engaging with them.

How bizarre! Why must you restrict your view to appease them? It's your home. You have planning permission. Why can't they just look somewhere else
like at their copies of the Daily Fail or put up a trellis at the back of their pergola? They sound jealous.

Hawkins001 · 31/01/2021 22:12

Tis an odd one, why does it matter to them that they have a full view ?

CindersCatsSister · 31/01/2021 22:15

@saz12 funnily enough, they never said a word about the builders. Probably because they couldn’t hear anything because they’re not in earshot!!
They love a grumble though. I once removed a branch of a tree that was in my garden but overhanging their drive and they went spare, came out and told the tree man how to do it better.

....and their age is relevant why????

1990s · 31/01/2021 22:20

My neighbour (terrace) thinks I’m unreasonable to want him to turn down his music so I can hear my TV.

I happily (genuinely, these things don’t bother me) put up with him shouting at his children, then screaming, their dog barking, his drums practice, his DIY. Apparently by asking for the music to be turned down enough so I can hear TV I am asking for “silence which is not possible in a terraced house”

He is also a cunt. I feel better now, thanks OP.

GreySkyClouds · 31/01/2021 22:21

What dud building control/the council say?

If they didn’t mandate the glass must be frosted the, don’t worry about it (for now, unless their staring bothers you)

TheABC · 31/01/2021 22:23

So they are the difficult type with the added bonus of lockdown keeping them at home with nothing to do but stew about your building works.

As you are juggling work and homeschooling, just stick up some frosted or reflective film for a quiet life. Before they start whinging and you act on a murderous impulse.

Enjoy the new kitchen!

@Poppy209

....and their age is relevant why????
Because neighbours who cause problems on MN are always elderly. T'is da roolz.
B33Fr33 · 31/01/2021 22:24

I'd be working on a lovely display on my windowsill for the "shop". Well. If I wasn't swamped!

evouk · 31/01/2021 22:25

Lol at fuck off you fucking cunts

loopyapp · 31/01/2021 22:26

Sounds like a tinge of the green eyed monster tbh... Your house is nicer than theirs now and ita made them all tetchy.

Any more complaints and I'd say "well I thought we'd leave it so you can enjoy a good nosey into our much nicer home" x

lovelemoncurd · 31/01/2021 22:27

I'd hate to be able to see into someone else's kitchen personally but that's why I've bought a house that has no aspect that's overlooked. I guess they could always move?

StanfordPines · 31/01/2021 22:28

No way would I be putting up film. Do they go to the neighbours opposite and ask them to close the curtains.
My next door neighbours kitchen window is directly opposite mine and only about 12 feet away. We wave.

TiddyTid · 31/01/2021 22:28

Are they using fucking binoculars to see into your window?!

LaceyBetty · 31/01/2021 22:29

I hate film/frosting on windows and will never use it )other than for my privacy in the bathroom). Makes me feel very claustrophobic knowing I can never look out of a particular window. I don't care what my neighbours think. They should look the other way.

StanfordPines · 31/01/2021 22:29

Why would you hate it though? Someone looking into my house I see the problem but I care not about looking into someone else’s. I just don’t look.

That life with neighbours. They have to handle it

Aren’t you directly looking over their garden across the single drive? Personally I’d just put some sort of sheer covering over your window otherwise surely they can just erect a fence in front of your window?

Poppy209 · 31/01/2021 22:35

Hmmm.....sounds as tho the said neighbours are being unreasonable but OP doesn’t come across well either - purely because of the over 60s comment. Try substituting the age reference with one re colour, creed, sexuality etc.....shouldn’t think da “accepted” roolz would go unchallenged then.

EveningOverRooftops · 31/01/2021 22:37

Amazon sell card board cut outs of your fave celebs. I suggest you get a couple and put different outfits on them daily.

Bin bags, party hats. A hat and scarf Grin

Bahhhhhumbug · 31/01/2021 22:38

Like fuck would l look at an opaque window in my new kitchen, it would fer do horribly closed in, like being in prison..... oh wait though, even in prison you can see daylight through the bars. The
