Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

Really struggling to motivate myself to work this morning. I’m just so tired and low level anxious about nothing in particular. I have no down time, if I’m not working I’m homeschooling or trying to keep on top of the housework/washing etc etc.
Gah! Sorry for the pity party.
Love and Flowers to everyone who is struggling.

justasking111 · 08/02/2021 11:45

@FossilisedFanny try not to worry they will sort you out, did my friend quickly she's fine now could be detached retina

justasking111 · 08/02/2021 11:47

Big birthday for OH today, so many birthdays missed now for folk. We need to organise official birthdays like the Queen has

rosettesforjill · 08/02/2021 11:56

@FossilisedFanny

Bloody hell , I’ve been referred to the ophthalmologist at our local hospital. My vision went all blurry last night with weird flashes every time I moved my eyes. Went to the optician this morning and they’re doing an urgent referral. I’m really worried Sad
DM had a detached retina in an earlier lockdown. She had a very quick referral, surgery to fix it within 24 hours and all is now well!

Hope everyone else is ok. Thanks and love to those struggling xx

FossilisedFanny · 08/02/2021 11:57

@rosettesforjill that’s reassuring, thank you

smallandimperfectlyformed · 08/02/2021 12:26

@FossilisedFanny I was going to say the same as justasking111 my sister's friend had that happen and had surgery on Boxing Day. I don't know how long it took her to recover but I know she is back driving already. The optical assistant who did my eye test on Friday said it's quite common and easily fixed as long as people get the treatment as soon as they are told. I hope it is something easily treatable like that. DWPmisery1972 look after yourself today, none of us want you falling over and hurting yourself again! I hope everyone takes care. Still feeling a bit shit myself but managed to get the majority of my 5 year old's homeschooling done and trying to stay calm.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/02/2021 12:33

Really not in the mood to be awake today.
By the time DS2 had been chased around the house for his first lesson, I was out of energy to nag/ cajole/ weedle through the next one. I logged on and turned the camera on to his empty chair.
I suppose I'd better feed the masses for round 2...

The weather is annoying. It's that half-hearted mucking about with snow. Not enough to have fun with. Just enough to make the pavements unpleasant. Not helping my mood.

I actually feel like I could cry today and I’m not an emotional person. It feels like no sooner is there a tiny ray of hope this might be coming to an end, another SAGE scientist pops up with yet another reason why lockdown needs to continue forever.

FlowersCakeBrew for everyone who is under the weather, fed up or just needs them.

starfish88 · 08/02/2021 13:08

I keep reminding myself (or get DH to when I can't find the strength myself) that the government can't afford to keep us locked down forever. As soon as it makes more sense financially to get up and running again then the messaging will switch. They might have had a rush of power initially but that will fade when it comes down to a numbers game. I just hope I'm right.

Blobby10 · 08/02/2021 13:45

starfish88 I wish I had your optimism. Every time I start thinking like that another bloody rule gets put in place, or numbers go up or something shitty

This in spades. I had this discussion with DH this morning. They really have got to get their comms sorted on this. I am so fed up with unelected scientists spouting their 'might', 'potentially' or 'could' views all over the media.
smallandimperfectlyformed · 08/02/2021 13:56

@justasking111 I managed to completely miss that it is your OH's birthday today. You said big one, I think that means he is 70 now? I hope that despite everything you both have a lovely day CakeFlowersWine

bakingcupcakes · 08/02/2021 15:03

@FossilisedFanny Try not to worry about it. The most important thing with new flashes/floaters is to be seen by a professional quickly which you've done. If there's anything there the hospital should be able to sort it out for you.

@chocolatesweets I honestly believe staying at home with small children is one of the hardest 'jobs' going. I went back to work p/t when DS was 10months old because as much as I love him I found being at home all the time too hard. I have great admiration for those who can be a SAHP because I genuinely don't think I could do it.

We had a coating of snow this morning. Proper thick flakes when I was leaving for work but it's gone now. DS was hoping for a snow day until I pointed out any 'snow day' now would probably involve us home schooling rather than playing.

chocolatesweets · 08/02/2021 15:22

@bakingcupcakes I know. I don't want to do it anymore 😂🙈 once they turn 3 we can get help with childcare. I went back part time after maternity leave but my boss was a pain so was worse being there for 2 days than home - they go to gps for half a day a week so I have that. I'm so excited to work again - it'll be a holiday, and I'll get paid 🙈 makes zero sense.

starfish88 · 08/02/2021 15:26

@Blobby10 I find the optimism thread is very helpful. In the end I feel it all comes down to numbers at uni I learnt that an economically active person is 'valued' at £1m as a very basic average. At some point lockdown will cost more than the lost years of economic activity. It's a strange world where I hope we are just numbers to the people in charge because someone must be doing the sums!

@FossilisedFanny I hope your vision gets sorted soon.

Here's a report of the police entering student accommodation this weekend that I mentioned https://amp.lbc.co.uk/news/manchester-students-police-flat-random-checks-party-covid-rules/?twitterrimpression=true

DWPmisery1972 · 08/02/2021 17:07

@FossilisedFanny I’m so sorry to hear about your eye, I hope everything goes ok and you’re well looked after, I hope you don’t mind if you’re in my prayers( i know some people don’t like it, if not I’m sorry I’m advance!)

curly I’m sorry if my original post about ads vs Ds came off the wrong way and upset you, I totally understand and agree with what you’re saying and I’m glad you’re as ok as you can be at the moment but as you say, this is just getting to be horrendous Sad

Good news, my GP has given me some stronger opioids so I don’t have to take morphine as much anymore, and she’s actually given me a decent amount so I don’t need to keep calling. A lovely woman from my church picked up my prescription which was really kind- I was too scared to take two littlies out in this just to get some pills Shock

To whoever suggested stretching I think I’m going to have to google some kind of appropriate exercise I can do with this injury because my brief visit from the physio at hospital, she told me to keep moving - so I need an alternative... stretching sounds so nice right now 😭

I know I’ve said it previously but I didn’t want go create any kind of wrong impression with my comment the other day- I think it’s the lack of empathy from D’s that get me most, even for people that seem ok from the outside, those people will be suffering just as much.

Love and light everyone, another day nearly done... and 2 weeks until the criminal trial against my husband. Not excited about that at all. FlowersBrew

Manchester again, they really are little jumped up hitlers in that city. Will forward this to my DS forewarned is forearmed. Thank you @TabbyStar
FossilisedFanny · 08/02/2021 17:32

Thank you all for the good wishes about my eye , I just want to hurry up and get the hospital appointment. It’s so frustrating (not to mention worrying) that I have a foggy patch in the middle of my field of vision.

Eve · 08/02/2021 18:57

I wasn’t offended by the Ds comment, just wanted to point out that some of us are a bit older and comfortable and full of sympathy for everyone struggling.

Sorry for all of you suffering at the moment. Big hugs.

I have 2 Uni DCs both back at uni & both struggling- 1 has had a Finals/ dissertation stress meltdown today & I sad that his freshers year has been shit.

MercyBooth · 08/02/2021 19:21

Don't worry in the slightest, I wasn't upset one iota! Everyone has different life circumstances and everyone is entitled to feel as they feel, that's the main thing on this thread. As Eve said above, some of us "slightly older" contributors are at a different life stage but can appreciate that for parents of young children in particular, life is a bit shit at the moment. I doubt it's a bed of roses for those with older children or those at uni.
Don't even think that you've upset me, rhino- hide, that's me!

MercyBooth · 08/02/2021 19:33

Im older (47) and childfree by choice but i can certainly empathize with what parents are going through. Parents are currently expected to home school while working and to have eyes up their arse and six pairs of hands. Its not sustainable.

ISaySteadyOn · 08/02/2021 20:24

I taught the children about prime numbers and prime factors and alliteration today. Then we had a snowball fight and watched Labyrinth. Think I did ok today.
