Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

@Pleasedontdothat

Oh great ...

Prime Minister Boris Johnson to lead a "national clap" for Captain Sir Tom Moore and health workers at 18:00 GMT

What's that supposed to achieve? Sir Tom's resurrection?

(Am tired - DD was in quite a good sleep routine and then lost it post vaccination - so perhaps have less patience with this stuff than normal.)

LadyCounterblast · 03/02/2021 14:12

BogRoll I hear you, I get the lethargy too. A sort of do-nothing flatness. I'm just so weary all the time.

And my bloody back hurts constantly because I have a tendency to slump if I'm not sitting properly.

justasking111 · 03/02/2021 14:14

The irony being it may have been a health worker who brought covid into Captain Toms home. Oops..

NannyGythaOgg · 03/02/2021 15:23

It seems to me that it probably was. They are the ones that are travelling between homes and many sick and vulnerable people. Whereas his family have a personal interest in only seeing him if not seeing anyone else.
Vintagelovingmum · 03/02/2021 16:12

@Weedsnseeds1 I've just noticed similar in the village my daughter goes to nursery with the bible quotes on telegraph poles! Haven't stopped to read them yet but the handwriting is beautiful.

Did they find that Captain Tom had tested positive after being in hospital for 10 days?

DWPmisery1972 · 03/02/2021 16:43

Hey ADs, thanks for the love. I’ve been sent home with all the lovely drugs and I’m walking and the kids are helping me with stuff I can’t do (loading the washing machine, moving my pillows etc)

Hope everyone is ok; lots of love to the fellow ‘shit parents’- I am one too; I can’t homeschool for shit, I use the tv as a childminder and I’ve got washing coming out of my ears. But don’t let this shit grind you down, it’s what the D’s want... you’re doing great. Seriously. Hugs hugs hugs.

No walking too far or driving anywhere for me for the foreseeable because of my medication/ potential to fall over and cause more damage. But walking around the house is good for me and helping so much, I can’t stay laying down id go ape.

Iheartmysmart · 03/02/2021 16:49

Some of you have very cultured telegraph poles. Ours either have missing cat posters or graffiti.

Glad you are home @DWPmisery1972 Nothing quite like being back in your own space to help with the healing process. Just don’t do too much Flowers

My DS is breaking the law and has gone into our lovely neighbour tonight for a poetry session. They decided between them on New Year's Eve to do this thing together. He's 12 and writes a bit of poetry, she's 45 and writes a bit of poetry. They bonded. She gave both my children a hug last week and I wept over that too. So happy some one else is hugging them.

Yes to Cpt Tom. I texted my friend who I am running with tonight and we decided we would carry on running and just pretend everyone was clapping us and it would spur us on. I'm done with the clapping.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/02/2021 16:57

I accidentally mis-timed a few run/ walks first time round.
I accepted the reverence as though it was due. Grin

DWPmisery, small consolations of lockdown, you're not missing much in the outside world as you recover, and should be feeling better ready as the world opens up again Flowers

Vintagelovingmum does the village start with B and have a hill with (in non-COVID times) traffic jams?

SirSamuelVimes · 03/02/2021 18:44

Thankfully I couldn't hear any of the clapping / music / performance moralism this evening, though I know from FB (because of course you need to video and post it for maximum smugness) that it happened.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/02/2021 18:50

Not on my street it didn't.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/02/2021 18:54

So many of my friends on Facebook "disgusted" that their neighbours didn't turn out to clap for captain Tom. Somehow this heartened me.

But maybe I'm too busy being disgusted at so many of our young people on a cliff edge with no support because....Well, covid. The levels of self harm, depression and suicidal ideation are still rising and rising, because the MH support that has been holding them together is now just gone.
Happy children's mental health week you fuckers.

Buzzinwithbez · 03/02/2021 19:08

There was no clapping here..phew.... And I think I'll find a small children's mental health charity to donate to if I'm donating anything... Or maybe toward the funeral of yet another young person who has died by suicide recently..

DrRamsesEmerson · 03/02/2021 19:11

No clapping here either, thank goodness- I wondered as some of our neighbours were quite enthusiastic clappers last spring.

LadyCounterblast · 03/02/2021 19:40

We had two. People. Out of a development of about 500 flats across several buildings.

There was a manic quality to the clapping which was probably driven by embarrassment, and a growing sense of being the pavement rather than the steamroller.

Vintagelovingmum · 03/02/2021 20:33

@Weedsnseeds1 yes I think so! Noticed them the other day driving through to WSM to get my big monthly shop but they've also appeared in the village next door. Don't think theyll be worth stopping to read then!

Fingers crossed for the bypass soon 🤞

Vintagelovingmum · 03/02/2021 20:38

Realise I'm very late to the party but this is our cat, lost our boy cat in the first lockdown. This one is actually hypoallergenic so doesn't cause any allergies which is brilliant for DH

Taswama · 03/02/2021 20:39

No idea if anyone was clapping here. I was doing yoga and would have been most annoyed if she'd delayed the start for that.

SirSamuelVimes · 03/02/2021 20:50

@Vintagelovingmum I don't mean to worry you, but your cat appears to be levitating.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/02/2021 20:51

Aha, we are definitely close neighbours Vintagelovingmum 😁

MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 21:11

@LivinLaVidaLoki Completely agree. Flowers Just seen that there is a petition for a state funeral for Captain Tom. The country hasnt got the money for that and im sure he wouldnt have wanted a big fuss

MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 21:14

No clapping in our local Sainsburys which is where i was at the time and DH says there wasnt any on our part of the estate.

MercyBooth · 03/02/2021 21:15

@Vintagelovingmum Gorgeous

Vintagelovingmum · 03/02/2021 21:24

@SirSamuelVimes that's the original horsehair chairs we won on ebay for £5 a chair, she loves ripping them to hell so we haven't the heart to replace them at the moment.

Glad there are some ADs locally because I have seen some unbelievable things on the local facebook pages!
