If there’s nothing on tv, DH & I go up to bed early to play a card game (Phase 10- a cross between rummy & uno)

PattyPan · 28/01/2021 20:46

@MiriamMargo hence why I said I hate it and it was dirty... They’re our main form of transport but we don’t have anywhere else to store them (mid terrace, no garage, nothing in the front garden to lock them to) so until DP gets his act together and buys a bike shed for the front garden there’s no other option. Whereas shoes off is very easy and there’s no excuse not to! The front door opens straight into the living room and we have a hard floor so we keep them next to the door and can mop it. Still gross though so I keep nagging DP to sort it!

Stovetopespresso · 28/01/2021 20:47

@tumbletastic

A through the floor lift in family room that goes up into lift room. Locks on outside of all the doors. An electric go cart in the family room. Gym in the front room. Safe space downstairs. Sofa in dd bedroom. I think that's it?!
your house sounds so sci-fi and cool
MrsKoala · 28/01/2021 20:47

@Howcanwehelp

Dh and I go up the same time as the children (8:30 to 9), we have a telly in our room and like to chat and relax up there. When we lived in our flat many years ago we lived in the bedroom as it was the only room with heating and never got out of the habit. It's comfy up here!
We do similar. We all go up to bed at 9pm. Shutting everything off downstairs, then we all go into the main bedroom and I read or watch Netflix. The 3 kids have books, their tablets, build Lego or play. H plays one of his 6 guitars (kept with a massive amp and pedal board in the biggest bedroom). Then at 10-10.30 it’s lights out and we all pile into various beds together. We get up usually at 9am. So we’re up there for about 12 hours.

There is a daily conversation of ‘right, who’s sleeping with who?’ And ‘which bed shall we sleep in tonight?’

@LindaEllen genius

marriednotdead · 28/01/2021 20:47

Our fridge freezer is in the dining room. The dining table only has 3 chairs. And half of said room is a snug.

heidbuttsupper · 28/01/2021 20:47

@Dontsayyouloveme my sisters does this!

Stovetopespresso · 28/01/2021 20:48

@Electricwigglefish

A pet pike! Can't say the other weird things dh is responsible for its too outing!!
oh go oooon
AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 28/01/2021 20:53

Once we have put the lights off to go to sleep, our cat will bring us a present. We have to stay awake until she does or she will keep bringing them all night. We thank her and then she hops into bed

OrangutanLibrarianGivesAnOok · 28/01/2021 20:54

It’s weird that you think keeping bread in the freezer is weird

Natsku · 28/01/2021 20:54

Oh and, normal for where I live but not normal for mumsnet, we have a sauna. Which currently doesn't have a working light (you'd think with an electrician in the house we wouldn't have issues with lights...) so we use candles for light in there - very rustic.

Normal for guests to just walk in the house without knocking. We leave the front door unlocked and the doorbell doesn't work so it just makes sense for people to let themselves in.

Originalyellowbelly · 28/01/2021 20:55

We have a moses basket in our lounge, one of my cats sleep in it none of the others are allowed

RosesAndHellebores · 28/01/2021 20:55

Father's ashes are in the dining room on the sideboard. We chat sometimes. He has a hat at Christmas.

Rainbowandscarlett · 28/01/2021 20:58

I collect vintage my little ponies
They are everywhere as I’m running out of space to put them
My partners just as bad-he’s the same with Star Wars and Lego

We also have a load of cross stitch pictures as it’s my hobby-every room in the house has at least one

Lovemusic33 · 28/01/2021 21:00

Nothings normal in our house.

We share our house with snakes.

We sometimes have dinner before 5pm

Pudding is called ‘treat’ (not sure why).

No one seems to shut the bathroom door ever (all female household).

Stovetopespresso · 28/01/2021 21:04

I have seen people drift off mid conversation looking at the crowded crap on our shelves (christening gifts from 10 years ago, forgotten birthday cards, weird heirloom plates etc)

EarringsandLipstick · 28/01/2021 21:04
@EarringsandLipstick lots of people have a rabbit in the bedroom 🤣🤣🤣
Haha, very good @Hesma 😂

BobbidyBob · 28/01/2021 21:05

Another one with a house rabbit here (you can sneer at me too if you want @EarringsandLipstick 😒) and he’s cuddled up with me on the sofa now. He occasionally sleeps at the foot of the bed but mostly prefers the whole sofa to himself at night.

AlCalavicci · 28/01/2021 21:05

@Giggorata , I am jealous of your Spike cut out !
But I have this picture framed over my desk .

As well as things I mentioned up thread , I also do not have a tumble drier or a dish washer but I dont think that is so unusual

happytobemrsg · 28/01/2021 21:10

We have air con (like in the U.K.)

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/01/2021 21:10

Not done since covid and now the kids are on FSM as I was made redundant but in the Before Times I used to have two drawers in my freezer full of sandwiches so the kids could just grab them and shove them in their lunchboxes. I would spend one Sunday evening a month making them up, when I had all 6 kids in school it would take me two days!

BiBabbles · 28/01/2021 21:11

The two TVs reminded me that it's not normal to have double decker TVs... we have an old CRT with old consoles attached that we use for older things and a flat screen a couple levels above it that new consoles get attached to. We're not the only ones I know with this setup, but it is probably on the odder side.

I have a very decorated curved gutting dagger next to my side of the bed. There are various daggers and swords, some gifts, some projects as my spouse does some repair work. We also have walking sticks dotted around the house and a rollator in the laundry area where I also keep big bins of socks and people sit on that to put them on.

I'm happy to take shoes off -- as long as there is a place for me to sit to do so. Between support boots and unsteadiness, flamingoing is a great way for me to fall on my ass. When we were househunting, part of the process was considering where to fit somewhere for sitting for shoes.

Shannith · 28/01/2021 21:12

Also until last week no TV here for the last 4 years. iPads and laptops are fine as we only my ever watch Netflix etc.

I don't think we've got a working ariel.

I dry clothes in the low oven of the aga. Downstairs bathroom door is never shut - it's only me and DD and it's a long thin room. The freezer packed up over the summer so we can't have ice cream unless we go to the village shop.

There are currently a series of dressing gown belts and bailing twine tied to the bannisters (I'm teaching DD to tie quick release knots so she can do the pony while I ride).

There are bowls of dry cat food dotted about because the semi feral foster cat is a weirdo and that's how she likes to eat. There are also a couple of jugs of water in the sides because both cats will only drink water out of them.

Alexa only ever plays classical music or TikTok songs.

I've a just realised I may be the slightly weird mum. Grin

JuniLoolaPalooza · 28/01/2021 21:12

I keep the school uniform in a giant tub downstairs with the underwear so dc can get dressed straight after breakfast without fanning around upstairs. Just pop up quickly to brush teeth before shoes. Somewhat redundant at the moment of course!

A baby grand piano

We have a curtain over our front door which is very old fashioned but I love it.
