Clingfilm on remote control to keep it clean
Garlic kept in a kitchen drawer ( my mother used to do this)
bread also kept in freezer and slices pulled out as and when
Husband keeps his outside croc shoes on top of kitchen bin so you have to pick up the lid plus shoes to put anything in the bin ( it’s like a dustbin) I throw them off occasionally but it’s like trying to stop the tide
I’ve got used to it
Showering without a shower curtain
Not flushing odd stuff down the Loo because we have a septic tank (the first thing visitors are told when they step over the threshold by my husband )
How to cope with our very steep staircase ( go up sideways)
That the massive contraption in the downstairs loo is our night storage heater and yes, it’s lovely and warm in there in winter.
Etc etc

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry

I am not your next door neighbour but I have a full size cut out of someone famous too! I've had it 3 years and it needs to be binned but I think I would miss it/him/her.

Does having 9 umbrellas in a box in my hall count too? I keep buying the pound shop ones when I get caught in a shower and have a few "proper ones" which are not telescopic and I don't take them out with me if it's not pisss raining.

StealthRoast · 28/01/2021 20:04

I fold the dirty laundry into the basket. I have a husky puppy who has a husky soft toy girlfriend who he thinks is real. He cuddles her to sleep every night and shares his treats with her!
We’ve also taken loads of doors off ( and regretted most of them haha )

theotherfossilsister · 28/01/2021 20:06

My mum used to put sick or motherless lambs in the Aga on the lowest setting, then get them out warm and pass them to us to be fed.

No one at school believed me.

IEat · 28/01/2021 20:07

My kids rarely come food shopping with me. I grew up a with every single Saturday morning in Tesco and later in years in Asda and all I wanted to do watch Going Live etc.

veryoldkitchen · 28/01/2021 20:07

I have a 40 year old handmade kitchen that I know I need to replace but I cba with the upheaval.

fucknuckle · 28/01/2021 20:11

i don’t have a microwave. or a freezer.

my cat has his own mug for his water.

it looks like i have fancy blue low-level lighting in the living area but it’s actually the router light diffusing from behind some furniture.

i live in a studio flat and have a total of 47 drawers. i still don’t have enough storage!

We don't use the TV. We don't watch a lot of TV. It's rarely turned on but if we do decide to sit and watch a movie together we watch it on my computer. I keep one monitor on my desk so the people on the chairs can see it and move one to the coffee table so the people on the sofa can see it.

It started when we moved in and had no aerial or way to stream via the really old non smart TV. We still have no aerial but now have a Firestick and a playstation. No clue why we still use the PC to stream movies. Habit, I guess.

DD wants to buy a bigger, third monitor for the purposes of streaming movies and mount it on the wall above my desk she's so used to watching TV/movies on a computer Grin

fucknuckle · 28/01/2021 20:12

oh! i don’t have a shower curtain either.

LadyBrienne · 28/01/2021 20:12

We wait for the last person to get home and then eat dinner together - every night - without fail - even if last person home at 10 pm - started when kids young and still doing it now they are almost adult - it’s my one thing about my day that I always look forward to

DH has taken up woodworking as his lockdown hobby. He's started storing planks of wood (oak, walnut, etc) next to the bed. Says they need to 'acclimatise' indoors. I think he's getting obsessed.

NotFabulousDarling · 28/01/2021 20:14

We used to do LOADS of weird stuff. We had houserabbits who roamed the house (but were banned from our bedroom, so they slept outside the door each night), we had stairgates but no kids (for the houserabbits to keep them out of the kitchen because they can easily get stuck under cupboards), ate on the floor except salad as the rabbits would steal it had a TV that was only connected to the Nintendo and we had done some DIY hacks that suited us really well but probably got immediately ripped out by the new owners of our last house.
We haven't really had time to make this one weird yet. Grin I suppose the only thing that's weird now is I'm growing fruit in the dining room.

fucknuckle · 28/01/2021 20:15

@NancyPickford do you play the theremin? i’m very jealous. i love a theremin, me.

AprilThe8th · 28/01/2021 20:16

We have one large drink between 3 of us at mealtimes.Dont know why at all because liquids aren't in short supply.

Magpiecomplex · 28/01/2021 20:16

Outing, but we have nearly 40 Daleks scattered around the house...

PattyPan · 28/01/2021 20:18

We have shoes off in our house too, that’s not unusual (might be regional/class based). Shoes on carpets

Probably the most unusual thing is that we have bikes in our living room/next to the front door (which I hate! Dirty and looks awful) because serial procrastinator DP hasn’t got round to sorting a bike shed for the front garden and it would be more annoying to traipse them through the whole house into the back garden.

qwerty1972 · 28/01/2021 20:19

When I iron, I put the item on a sheet on the floor and stand on my feet bent double to iron. It's how my Grandma did it and I thought it was how everyone did until I was in my twenties. I had seen ironing boards on TV, but I thought they were an English thing (I'm Scottish).

73kittycat73 · 28/01/2021 20:19

@spiderlight

A regular job in our house is sloth redistribution. Our dog is obsessed with cuddly toys and for reasons too ridiculous to repeat, we have got ourselves into a situation where he collects sloths. He has to have a teddy to carry with him on all significant occasions, such as getting up in the morning or going to his food bowl, which means that we accumulate piles of stuffed sloths in the kitchen and on his downstairs bed and periodically have to sneak half a dozen or so back upstairs when he's not looking (if he sees you trying to take them upstairs he will mug you and bring as many as he can carry back down).
Aww, that sounds hilarious! Grin I can just imagine...To cute! Smile
Candyfloss99 · 28/01/2021 20:20

I thought everyone froze bread!

Kimber2310 · 28/01/2021 20:20

We call the thing you use to turn the tv channel over ‘the bleep’. It’s never made a sound, not sure why but that’s what we called it growing up and now my children call it that too.

PattyPan · 28/01/2021 20:20

Oh, not at the moment but in spring we will have lots of seedlings on all appropriate windowsills and by the back door before they are big enough for the allotment.

Natsku · 28/01/2021 20:23

Showering with the door open. For ages we had no light in our shower room so had to leave the door open so the hallway light would get in and then just got used to showering with the door open. Now we have a light in there but we have no heating so the door remains open for another reason. Shower is in the basement though so its not a hallway that people are in often but my dad does not like it when he visits!

donquixotedelamancha · 28/01/2021 20:23

The middle of the lounge floor is a giant chessboard with pieces on.

Dontsayyouloveme · 28/01/2021 20:24

Does anyone flush leftover food down the toilet? I don’t but know two people who do! I can’t get my head around it.. I just imagine it looking like sick! 🤢

LindaEllen · 28/01/2021 20:27

@LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett

I freeze milk. My friends think that's bonkers, but I think it's completely normal.
Haha, we use very little milk, so for cups of tea we have milk frozen in ice cube bags 😂
