8 mice.

And we don’t own a sofa. We have a memory foam mattress topper on the living room floor, with pillows against the wall, and we sit on that to watch tv! It’s quite comfy actually but people probably think we’re weirdos. I’ve always sat on the floor, when I was a kid/teenager I’d sit on my bedroom floor all day listening to music/watching tv/reading etc instead of my bed. My 3.5 year old prefers the floor too, she refuses to have her mattress on a bed frame, she won’t sleep unless it’s on the floor.

Since lockdown last year, I have put anything that can go stale in an IKEA lock bag .
I got the massive 4.5L ones and it even holds a loaf of bread.
My cereal lasting longer as still crunchy.
My bread is fresh even where it's cut.
The cooked meat in the fridge is still fresh .

@Georgyporky

I'll only remove my shoes if I'm given something clean to wear on my feet. Totally unreasonable to expect otherwise.
Definitely if it's a cold tiled floor or something. Or you didn't warn your visitor and they've turned up with holes in their socks or no socks. I definitely wouldn't show my bear feet to people.
peaceanddove · 28/01/2021 19:46

I usually have several candles lit and dotted around the house, even in empty rooms. I think it's cosy.

Always have to have quiet music on in the background.

I still often wander around upstairs, naked, and our teens don't bat an eyelid. However, they haven't seen DH naked since they were toddlers.

All my drawers and wardrobes (I have 3 double ones) are Marie Kondo'd to perfection.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/01/2021 19:46

@FineWhiteBread

I have two staircases. People always comment on it, but I hadn’t thought that was unusual?
Unless it's a massive house it's quite unusual. As if one of them is for the servants or something. I only remember ever being in one house with two staircases.
NanaRant · 28/01/2021 19:47

I have a wardobe in my bathroom. It has all the towels in it.

(It is stylish and goes with the overall look...at least I think soGrin

@Bagelsandbrie

My kids brush their teeth in the kitchen sink. No idea how this started, think it was when they were little and got ready for school and I could keep an eye on them whilst doing kitchen stuff but they are 9 and nearly 18 now and still do it ConfusedGrin
We do this too. Have never liked having my toothbrush next to where we shit... basically 😂
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 28/01/2021 19:48

@Bilgepumper that is hilarious 😆

Blondiney · 28/01/2021 19:48

I've always wanted hens, now my life will not be completely until I have a house hen!

DuckonaBike · 28/01/2021 19:50

@MadameTuffington

My house bunny sleeps in bed with me - he is extremely clean and fully house trained - everyone I know finds it funny 🐇
My DDs must never see this - they are desperate to take our rabbits to bed. I have said No. I have to ask, is it hard to house train them...?

The only weird thing we do is keep our shoes on in the house. I am old enough to remember when this was normal!

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 28/01/2021 19:50

Not sure if its unusual or not but we have an entire 3rd floor only accessible via the master bedroom, it looks like a cupboard but is actually a full sized staircase, from the outside you can't tell it's a 3 story property.

We also freeze bread, I thought everyone did and just kept a fresh loaf out

OrangeBananaFish · 28/01/2021 19:50

@Thehogfatherstolemycurry My NDN has a life-size cut out of someone famous in their front bedroom. There has been the odd time when I've jumped wondering who it was.

We have 2 bathrooms with a bath, toilet and sink in each of them. The downstairs bathroom also has a shower over the bath, but the upstairs is just a bath. Many years ago an old couple who lived there extended downstairs rather than moving to a bungalow and its never changed. Because of this, we also have 2 attics.

Our fire has never worked, but our heating is great so we have never bothered with it. We have turned off the radiator in the kitchen though as we are never in unless cooking when it gets too hot anyway.

ATM its fairly unusual as in our house there is the new PS5 and the new Xbox X (I think it is - the more expensive one where you can use physical games - Sorry not a gamer myself). Both of these were like gold-dust before Christmas yet DH managed to get both of them which he has played regularly.

Blondiney · 28/01/2021 19:50

@waitrosetrollydolly

Having a panic room and a whole floor apartment for security staff ?
I read that as 'picnic room' at first glance.
Gwenhwyfar · 28/01/2021 19:50

"She didn't know about the second staircase and remained baffled for years as to how he did it. We probably should have told her but it was far too funny."

Didn't she know and was playing along? Or did she really think he climbed a ladder outside or something.

speakout · 28/01/2021 19:50

I have a witch's workshop.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 28/01/2021 19:51

Pic of Sloth Dog please!

(I spend a lot of time on MN demanding pictures of dogs)

bert3400 · 28/01/2021 19:51

My son has a professional sim racing system in our basement, it's the dogsbollocks . He competes with F1 drivers and regularly beats them . He is also very good at racing in the real world

Very envious of bum gun!

devildeepbluesea · 28/01/2021 19:52

No microwave or toaster.

Microwave I do miss but the toaster....I got rid of the last one after I found mouse droppings near it in the old house 🤢

Thesagacontinues · 28/01/2021 19:52

That sounds amazing @soundofsilence1 - might have something like that in my new kitchen, keen to have the toaster (and any other appliances possible) out of sight.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/01/2021 19:53

I don't have a fitted kitchen. I have the kitchen stuff, but it's not connected to the wall.
I don't have a lock for the bathroom, which is not that unusual, but I hate it.
The place was an office at one time so there are still remnants of that.

lucysmam · 28/01/2021 19:54

Dd2's pet praying mantis is probably the weirdest thing here; fascinating but very strange little creature!
